This tutorial saved my butt when attempting to replace the powered hose AND the updated circuit board that fits in the Capricorn canister. Super clear instructions. Love the mallet trick. Works like a charm. Thanks a ton!!!
thank you. I had it half apart and got stumped by the hidden screws and how to get to them. This video made it really easy to finish the job - getting it apart and putting it back together. The problem was a small moving address sticker found its way into the motor compartment, resulting in huge noise and loss of pressure. Bought this unit in 2011, after returning to Australia after 15 years in California. Hopefully it will last another 10 years! It is a great machine, which is the reason we bought it. - I think we paid about $600. Thank you for creating this video, it is appreciated.
I appreciate this video. I have this exact model. It was a floor display when I bought it, and unfortunately it has had several ongoing issues, the hose of course, and now the reset light stays on. I'm handy, so I don't have any issues taking it apart, but it's always nice to watch someone knowledgeable doing it first, which you have done for us. The only thing I still don't quite understand is why the circuit board has to be changed with the hose. I went to a dealer, and he put on an identical hose on my vacuum, and it worked perfectly. I could see changing the small circuit board in the handle, as the problem with mine seems to be that those copper connectors keep sliding off the connecting metal rings. I hate to buy a new hose and board just because of that, but I have't figured away to keep the connectors from sliding off, as there is only one screw on the end holding them on. Either way, great video. I think I'm going to take mine apart just to give it a thorough cleaning and look at that reset switch.
It's working "ok," but it still cuts out if I make sharp turns in another direction and then kicks back on. It would probably benefit by switching both the hose and board, but I haven't convinced myself that that's something I want to spend the money on. I'm at a crossroad of what I want to do. On one side, I feel if I'm going to spend $300 on a hose, maybe it's best to just apply that towards a new vacuum. The other side, however, is I really like having the controls on the hose and from the last time I looked, I would need to get one of the higher-end models to get that same control, which is a lot more than $300, so I haven't figured out what I want to do. Any suggestions? Thanks for the reply. @@Jet_Threat
@@thehonestman26 My friend is a Miele/vacuum repair guy. I sent him your messages and he said this: “Ok, the reset light may be more for the motor is warn. I have replaced the motor without having to do the main PCB( board) For the handle, the copper connection may need to be rubbed with 70% iso alcohol and have die electric grease applied. 98 percent of my fixes have been just that.. you can gently... I mean very gently try to get them connection to sit back into a proper position... but clean the rings and check the wire harness that connects to them. They will tell you a lot. You just have to inspect them. I have never had to replace a pcb board in order to get a hose to work. Generally, there are connection where the lid meets the chasis they never really get damaged unless you throw it around. Give it a little bit of tlc before you spend more. If you're buying new... they are expensive to essentially replace what you have.”
@Jet_Threat Thanks so much again, very kind of you. I have cleaned the rings a couple times with the alcohol, although I have never added grease to it. Interesting. I'll play around with it again when I have a minute. Appreciate your response.
In a world where Apple (and basically everyone else) design products that are sealed and deliberately designed to be non-serviceable - Miele is kind of an odd duck. So thanks for taking the time to make all these great and very detailed videos.
Great video. Thank you. Do you have or know of good video about removing casing on Miele S2121 Delphi vacuum cleaner? I am having trouble removing it. I did not use a mallet. Front part came out ok but the cable side does not come loose. Thanks
Can you order and replace all the silver-colored plastic parts? Mine started to breakdown and when I tried to clean it with alcohol, it completely started to remove the coating completing and reveal the plastic underneath.
I disassambled S5210 (same case for 5000th series) and saw a hole above rear wheels, and inside was some dusty. Because the wheels contacted with a dusty carpet. Tell me please To Exclude suction through it, whether to close these holes? One hole for a cord will be enough.
I have a Miele S 5980 vacuum cleaner. When the power button is activated, it only lights up and the vacuum does not turn on until the reset button is pushed. Then the vacuum operates correctly. The filters are clean. Any ideas? Thanks. Greg
I don't know if you're answering questions here. I've got a s5981 seems to work fine but the the electro rush/power head switch on the hand grip causes the vacuum to pulse and the lights to flicker. Was wondering what the problem was.
My Capricorn is starting to short after 15 years. The speed goes up and down on its own and sometimes it turns off. Could this be an issue with the hose controls or the circuit board?
This is so awesome. Watching this convinced me to buy a used Capricorn for only $180 with all the original parts. My reel is working fine but there's a nick in the cable that's making me consider what's possible. Do you know if there's room to switch the cord out for a longer one?
There's one cord that fits on that reel in Noth America . There is a lot more to just changing on a cord when you're adding length to a retractable cord system. The spring and reel need to be engineered around the length of the cord.
No . but there is a problem with stressing the C3 hose too much at the base by the canister where can cut the wires inside the hose. My understanding is this has been solved by Miele now
I have been trying to find a new lid for my old Capricorn. It seems the Luna Silver color is no longer available. Does anyone have any idea where I might find one? Thanks
Basically let me know my cord rewind was gonna explode when I removed it from the machine lol it was in pieces identical to this one. I think thats probably a very common failure
I just found a Jupiter last week. It’s identical to this one except it’s blue and 11/07 build date. It’s got that soft touch paint coating on it that’s all marked up. I’ve buffed the markings and it’s better but not great. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make it look better I’d appreciate the tip.

Thanks for this. I inherited my Grandmother's vacuums and had no idea how to service them in anyway. This helped a lot.

How do you feel about the C3 Brilliant? I picked one up for $80. Works great
Fantastic video! Thanks for saving my bacon! Really well done product and your walkthrough was perfect!

What exactly do you mean? How does Miele differ?
I love how simple these are. Really all their canisters seem to be simple. Unlike the uprights lol
The Capricorn is one of my favorite S5 series mieles and also my first introduction of the miele brand so it pretty nostalgic
Thank you for doing this as I have one the same to do and this will be my guide, so thank you 🙏🏻
This reminds me of your older videos when it was all service
Thank you for the great video. My circa 2006 s5980 functions fine short of the reset button not turning on the vacuum. Could this require a new board?
This was my dream machine, I now have an s7 but I’m still looking for the s5 or c3/s8
When I replaced the cable on my Miele S234i I placed a yellow mark four feet and a red one foot from the stop.
Thank you for doing the deck repair video I miss those in your channel

Thanks, helped sort out a s5260.

Sounds like there might be a problem with the hose or internal electrical. I recommend to bringing it to an authorized dealer.

It comes with a kit that you change both out.

How’s yours working for you now?
I have a Miele Kona, the telescope pole gave me a shock. Do you know how to open and repair ?
Thanks
It electrocuted you??!
I was about to get one of these on ShopGoodwill!
Have you had any of the c3 electric hoses go out in similar ways to the older ones ?
No . but there is a problem with stressing the C3 hose too much at the base by the canister where can cut the wires inside the hose. My understanding is this has been solved by Miele now
Something to bear in mind with mine i guess
@@PerformanceReviewswith which models?
I have been trying to find a new lid for my old Capricorn. It seems the Luna Silver color is no longer available. Does anyone have any idea where I might find one? Thanks
Your local Miele dealer should be able to get it
Dose the Miele Capricorn have more airflow and suction then a new Miele s8 Marin?
It should be the same.
Did you just say "Dishboscher"? 😂
😁

What ended up happening with this?
My favorite Miele is the titan or C1 and I would say it’s easier to take apart I have serviced it
That model is harder to take apart with all those clips.
Performance Reviews OK I agree
If you own a Miele it seems we all have the same cleaning girl. I answered your email Alex BTW.
Who cares how much it costs to fix the hose, people should expect a expensive machine to be expensive to repair. I consider that common sense.
What model do you have?
Is the hepa filter and bag for C3 compatible with S5311?
Yes they are the same.
