  • In this episode of our New Orleans travel vlog we are in the New Orleans French Quarter at the Astor Crowne Plaza New Orleans to do a New Orleans hotel tour of their conference space. The Astor Crowne Plaza New Orleans Hotel is located in the New Orleans French Quarter at 739 Canal Street right at the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets. This New Orleans French Quarter hotel has 2000 square feet of meeting space with 20 meeting rooms, a fitness center, an outdoor pool, a business center and offers valet parking. A lot of history has been made at this location which is now a New Orleans hotel. Originally this location was home to Christ Church which was erected in 1816 and soon grew into a larger congregation that needed a larger church space which was built here by 1837 then as the church continued to grow they built yet another larger church at different location so the older church building on this site was sold to become the Congregation Dispersed of Judah synagogue in 1845. Local merchant and philanthropist Judah Touro began redeveloping much of the rest of the 700 block of Canal Street in the 1850’s into what would become known as Touro Row which was a collection of a dozen buildings. Multiple fires destroyed some of the structures on this block of Canal Street until an A. Schwartz & Son department store was built at this location which then became a Woolworth’s in the 1950’s. In the early 2000’s the old Woolworth’s location became part of the new Astor Hotel which also incorporated four of the original Touro buildings into the hotel.

That is a great balcony! During Mardi Gras they might have restrictions on how you can access that balcony so you might want to ask about that with the front desk when you check in. Thanks for watching!

Just returned from New Orleans. Grew up close by. Our first trip back in about 10 years. Sadly, the quarter has turn into a homeless and junkie sanctuary. We will never return…
