Hi SCG, I just want to say, that you guys are so awesome! I live in Sydney, Australia and follow all your videos! I had a basic espresso machine before (with pressurised portafilters! which I know thanks to you) I now own a Rancilio Silvia v4 + Rocky doserless since about a month. Initially, I wasn't getting the coffee like you guys on your videos. The shop where I bought it recommended a Barista Learning course.. Instead I did the "SCG RUclips course" and 1 month later, here I am making the perfect shot with latte art to boot! Thanks a lot, guys and Happy Holidays!!
+Seattle Coffee Gear Thanks... my humble learning experience... The 2 essential accessories for a Silvia are.. a good quality tamper (the one that comes with the machine sucks!!) and a good digital weighing scale ( i bought a good one in Aus for 16 bucks). Armed with these 2 and SCG's vlogs, you are on your way to mastering the perfect espresso coffee!!

On the 2020 model black one do I have to wait after the light goes off or is the heating element better on this ? I always seem to get caught waiting too long then the light goes on in middle of brewing.
Hi, I just have bought the V4 (new V3). But the front of the machine is in stanless steel but NOT brushed. Did they sell me the old V3 or the new V3 (V4) ? Is there a way to know that ? Thank you.
I am in the process of deciding what model to upgrade ( from 10 yr old sunbeam cafe) and have narrowed it down to a few models under $1,000. After seeing this video, if I was still single I would probably get this machine based on its quality components. However seeing how long it takes for the steam temp to drop to the extraction temperature, this in my opinion is such an unrealistic machine to be brewing on for multiple people if you want them to have a coffee at a similar time. I think my choice is going to be a breville 920, with the built in timer feature as I get up at 5am!! Thanks for your in depth reviews, from Wes. ( Melbourne Australia )
hello Gail and everybody. i'm interested in buying a Rancilio Silvia, but i heard that i have to MASTER the steaming technique to get the milk just right. is it that hard to steam milk by the Silvia? (i've never owned an espresso machine before btw)
Don’t stretch before you brew. You’re losing the temp of your beverage and the whole idea of micro foam is consistency. That’s why latte art didn’t arrive in her pour. A shot can live for up to a minute. So pull that shot then quickly stretch and immediately pour. Your drink will be better.
Hi from Aus. I bought my Silvia in 2010 and the steamer has never been that great. Takes ages to build up pressure and with a full jug it rapidly loses pressure before milk has been streamed. It can do half a 1L jug just.
+TheForge10 Even 500ml of milk is a lot to steam on a single boiler machine. Ideally you will want to steam about 200ml for the best results. How is your machine otherwise?
+Seattle Coffee Gear Its been a great machine . Yes I do get good results with less than 500ml for steaming but i sometimes make multiple lattes for friends and family so i sometimes try and do more milk to save time.Ill go for 200ml from now on. Other than that its never missed a beat.Makes a great cup.
Nobody has been able to answer this question.....Where in the world do you get the Rancilio cups?? You know the ones you see in all the ads atop all the Rancilio machines...Thanks..
***** Great question... actually, Seattle Coffee Gear could make a video about the personal coffee gear of some of the team members we know from the videos.
Good evening . I want buy machine expresso for coffe and i confuse about witch express : Rancilio Silvia M or ASCASO Dream Dark Black; witch expresso better and i want know Your opinion ? Please if You can answer me i will be great and happy . Greeting from Slawek from Poland .
Is this the best machine at the price point? Other solid options? I'm currently rocking a Gaggia Classic but I think it may be on the way out...or at least is going to need some overhauling.
+Chad Ashton The Silvia is a solid machine, brass boiler as well which would be a nice upgrade from your aluminum boiler. We might also suggest looking at the Crossland CC1. Comes standard with an adjustable PID as well as a few other programable features. Take a look here: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/crossland-coffee-cc1
+Greg 'Meltdown' Quinn I think it's a matter of taste. For me, it tastes better if you pour the milk into the espresso, when it's just brewed, rather than making it first and letting it get cold.. For better latte art, I think you can do the espresso shot first and milk later...
+Nelson Raj Great answer! In addition to taste, by cooling the machine down you will have a better idea as to where the temperature is for brewing. Take a look at our Temperature Surfing video for more information: ruclips.net/video/KTRKpao-5Z0/видео.html
Richard Hindle have had mine for about 9 years. Love it and I eventually got the $800 mazzer doserless grinder which is far superior to the rancilio grinder.
A good question and virtually everybody does that. She claims it's because that way the coffee is fresher, because freshly-ground beans are only fresh for seconds, but note here that she ground the beans before even starting... ;)
+Nico Reuter I have no comparison, however the auto shutdown is comfortable. It's isolated with foam as you thought. Here's the picture : tinyurl.com/jegm9e7
Jonatan Beauchamp, it takes about 2 minutes after brewing for me. The timing is just enough for me to clean the screen and wash my portafilter and basket while I wait it to get up to steam temp, so very convenient. In my opinion, this is better than steaming first like Gail is doing. After steaming, it gets a little messy to run water because you get a few seconds of very turbulent steam+water from the wand. Also, you can overcool it too much, then you need to wait a little more to get it back up to brew temp. If you don't have the PID version, you also risk inconsistent brew temps across shots.
Stefan Sigfinnsson , I think 2010 was the v2->v3 transition, when they changed the visual details (steam knob, portafilter handle). Then in early 2014, they changed the boiler design that Gail mentioned in the video and people call that "v4".
Hi John, the shot isn't as stable as the milk (due to temp loss and oxidation), so we like to do it in this order so the shot isn't sitting around losing flavor. Thanks for watching!
Love Unique Studios | This is kind of a late reply, but yes, it has to do with not burning out the boiler. Because this machine doesn't have what we call an E61 brew group that constantly circulates water into the boiler to keep it full, this boiler is at risk of running dry, which is bad for it. Thing is, when you steam milk, the pump doesn't work, so the boiler empties ever so slightly. By dispensing hot water, Gail refills the boiler with water again, preventing the heating element in the boiler to run without water touching it. If you steam your milk last, it lets the heating element) cool down with some parts of it not touching water. Hope this helped !
I just bought this machine(to be gifted) expecting it to be at least as good as my Saeco Aroma. So far so bad, a bitter brew seems to be all it can do. Thinking it must be me, I tried less coffee, more coffee, tamp hard, light or not at all, run less water through it, then fill cup with water from the wand... lousy bitter coffee is all I get. #spoiledbysaecoaroma
+brikbatwarrior It is the best way in ensure you are brewing your espresso at the proper temperature (assuming you don't have a PID) Take a look here: ruclips.net/video/KTRKpao-5Z0/видео.html Thanks for watching! Cheers :D
+Seattle Coffee Gear being a classic user for many years, so I'm not sure about silvias... But for me it makes mores sense to surf for the shot... Then the machine just has to do the rise for steam, rather than the more awkward drop temp after steam.. ?
I bought my Silvia last December and I use it every day. It is a great little machine.
Wesley Jones We totally agree! Glad you like your Silvia. :)
hi sir, Does Silvia still working?
@@myhalil2131 yep. Like the day I got it.

Any way to easily tell if the water is low without looking inside the water tank? Maybe an add-on sensor?

somebody know how to do the first use and how can use and take care the machine?? is a good price 950 dollars ? a good coffe machine in 2021
Can anyone answer me this; what’s better, this Rancilio Silva, or the Breville Barista express?

Q: how do i know what year my second hand machine is? i recently bought it.

The thing I don't like in silvia is that you can't turn the steaming arm to 45 degree angle it goes max about 20 degree..

Gail, which machine would you recommend between this Silvia -vs- Breville BES870XL Barista Express Espresso Machine? Thanks
Breville is an appliance, built to last the length of the warranty. Rancilio will last longer than your dog...
You will have many years waiting for it to warm up

Why don't you pull the shot, then froth the milk? Surely that makes things easier and you don't need to wait for the machine to cool down?

thinking about getting one of these machines! what diameter tamp does it need?
Richard Hindle have had mine for about 9 years. Love it and I eventually got the $800 mazzer doserless grinder which is far superior to the rancilio grinder.
It's 58mm
this is the best machine for the money and probably even more
Gail, why didn't you pull the shot first to avoid having to artificially cool the machine? Is there a reason?

why get boiled milks every what im doing wrong
is there any part in this machine which is made of plastic ,silicon or rubber which comes in contact of hot water or hot coffee.
There are internal gaskets that come in contact with hot water
what material Gaskets are made of?
They are rubber: www.seattlecoffeegear.com/seattle-coffee-gear-tune-up-kit-for-rancilio-silvia
Oh gale one of these days you will get latte art down you just need to position the cup better

what type of power supply does it need? 120V is sufficient?

New Gaggia Classic Pro is a better deal unless you buy a Silvia w/ PID
