- Some of the best R&B music emerged from the '90s, including songs by the Dalyrimple brothers, better known as Soul for Real. They took over the Billboard charts with their two hit songs, 1994’s “Candy Rain,” and 1995’s “Every Little Thing I Do.”
Backed by their mentor Heavy D, the brothers experienced a brief moment of success, before it all came crashing down. Here's what happened to Soul for Real and the real reason they were blacklisted.

Seriously though they were treated dirty with no reason. What happened to Heav & Andre was tragic but no one knows how God works...that's all I'm saying on that.
Yeah I know it …it’s disgusting how we do each other knowing what they went through before that so you should do up and coming groups better to stop the cycle…like how Pebbles did TLC smh same type of shht
As for the tragedy …not saying it was karma but I wouldn’t give a shht about them seeing that they fugged them over so bad …it is what it is and fuk the funerals to, what respects do they deserve from them young men? I've always heard nothing but positive things about Heavy D up until this video. So he had a difference of opinion with a group member, but to never want to speak to them again? That's a bit extreme and shady on Heavy's part. I guess there are two sides to anyone. I hate how the industry allowed Soul For Real to crash and burn so fast. They just don't care at ALL! Be letting all of this talent fall off like this! I feel so bad for the artists. You think you'll be doing this for a living for the rest of your life, only to release one big commercial album and be dropped, then have to go back to normal life like nothing ever happened. Going back to the struggle and working a regular 9-5 would be somewhat traumatic initially I'd imagine.
I also heard that Heavy D dropped them because he discovered and fell in love with Monifah. Lol
And imagine random folks coming to your Jon taking pics to laugh at u online....in this generation

🤔 Doesn’t seem like the deal was the real issue on this one. It was Choc coming fresh into the game trying to call shots. Then when Heav decided he didn’t wanna put up with the attitude, they tried to call foul. I think it’s disgusting for him to blame Heav’s death on karma. Heav gave them a golden opportunity, and they blew it because they couldn’t take his guidance. 🙄
@@CodyCole80 . What was Heavy D's guidance to Soul For Real?
@@jamiltyson1571
🤔 When Heav picked them up and put them on, he’d been in the game close to 10 years by then. Do I have to spell it out? Anytime someone has years of experience on you, they have more wisdom within whatever industry. Why not just take Heav’s advice and let Jase lead, especially since he sung lead on the original single? That’s makes more since musically and for marketing.
To me, it seems Choc wanted to make sure he got some shine instead of just taking Heav’s instruction (guidance) and ended up blowing the support Heav once had for them. They only had one single out, and he had the nerve to wanna argue with the boss: FOOLISH! 🙄
Look at the bright side, the sharks that stole their money from bad publishing deals/contract are no longer alive. These brothers have more wealth in their health and still can be successful in life.
Yup😂
Nobody should have to go through that though. And how would some of the boys be able to sign a deal if they were underage? That's really shady.

Record companies wouldn't exist without talent. It makes sense to keep artists happy and well paid since they're the ones generating income that the record companies steal.

I don't believe Heavy D was a complete villain in this story. I'm sure the brothers brought a little too much street and ghetto fabulousness to the record label's door. Heavy D gave them a chance so why would he wash his hands of them after seeing them knock it out of the park with their first two singles? He really had to have a good reason to do so.

@@TheWholeWorld1 Especially since they continued to get into trouble (including a prison stint) way after Heavy D was out of the picture. Candy rain was my absolute favorite song. It means so much to me. It got me through some rough times during my teen pregnancy. I used to sing it to my baby in my belly 🥰 my son is now 27 💙
Soul For Real, they are all right w/ me. I actually had a brief exchange w/ Jase several months ago. I told him how I felt about his new song and a few other things. He was hella cool and very receptive. I told him that I believed 112 replaced them which is why they fell flat. He said that I could be on to something. There's a reason why we know and love _Candy Rain_ and barely know sh¡t else by them. It's a corporate decision. They decide on what's gon be a hit and how long the artist/band is gon last in that mainstream music marketplace. Once they use you up and hang you out to dry, it's curtains on that ass. With hundreds to thousands of artists/bands on a label, execs can sorta look & book ahead. "Eh, we're tired of Soul For Real. Let's go for 112 and see what happens." Anyway, my favorite song from them is a tie between _If You Want It_ and _Spend the Night._ I left a comment under one of they live performances and a follower of mine corrected me. He knew what type of R&B I liked and told me to listen to _Spend the Night._ I listened to it and it became my favorite, instantly. I love the hits, but I've always been an albums cut kinda girl. _Candy Rain_ is sheer nostalgia for all '90s kids so I don't need to get into that one. I'll be here all doggon night/morning reminiscing. Nah, they second LP, chile... I never fooled w/ it during the time, however, I did enjoy the song I heard on _Moesha_ entitled _Never Felt This Way._ I love that cut. I remember seeing the LP in stores and it just felt like goodbye. It felt like a blank piece of paper. It obviously had no programming behind it. I recently listened to it and...well... It's cool, (I guess). I like the first cut entitled _Stay._ After that LP, I have no idea, chile. They're tryna do new music and it's like, "Oh Lawd. Here we go." Soul For Real is my generation. My generation isn't interested in new music from '90s artists/bands anymore. Mint Condition was at some Awards show performing new music and nobody in the audience moved. Soon as they hit that _Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)_ gem, the audience responded. There's a reason to that. So many '90s artists/bands make new music and it ALWAYS falls flat and flops. See, back in the '90s, labels programmed the music so that it would stick and sink in our minds & hearts. Did you know that folks think Jon B last song is 1997's _They Don't Know?_ There's a reason to that. Nowadays, my generation focuses on podcasts and reality tv. New music is the last thing on our minds because our musical memory banks are full. We're perfectly satisfied w/ our lil' '90s jams. It's not right or wrong. That's just the way things go. Who's still waiting around for Usher Raymond to put out new music? Who's waiting for Usher Raymond to go out on tour and perform the classics? Think about it...
I hope you do silk or 112 next?
Candy Rain will always be my song.
I saw one of them in Long Island when I was like 18-19. So like 2003. He was a WHOLE crackhead. It was really sad. I hope they are all doing okay now.

It sounds like Choc running his mouth cost them a good second album. At least if he kept his mouth shut for a second album, they'd have the chance to renegotiate the contract. Some groups like Soul For Real have a run in the music game. They only have a 2 year run (1994-1996) and music was shifting around that time . It was so many groups in the 90s . The lead singer voice has changed and they couldn't crack another hit like their previous joints from their debut album. Their audience (fans) moved on. They wasn't blackballed its the times and people gravitate to the next new hotness. Look at B2K for example they had a 2 year run and split up because of management and Omarion was going solo.

These young boys nothing like the groups in the 60s and 70s the stylistics the mad lads, The Delfonics, The intruders. Why do you give so much recognition to five boys called the Jackson 5. Why don’t you all tell the truth they wasn’t nothing compared to these groups. Frankie Lymon and the teenagers, Bloodstone, The Chi Lites. And I can go on and on!
I still listen candy rain and every little thing I do are my favs❤️
They were not referred as the 90's J5. They had no publishing...like the Temptations & New Edition. That first album was all Heavy D.
How bad was that disagreement for a person to completely turn on a group of youngsters and influence others to do the same?! It’s a shame when you can’t speak up for yourself because you need someone else’s money to fund your career.
Andre and Heavy both passed mysterious and was running and hiding from this group for years
How did they pass mysteriously? Heavy had a blood clot and andre had high blood pressure and died from heart failure...how is that mysterious?
Everyone dies, no mystery about it...
@@AnAdorableWombat 😩
Anthony you spoke the truth!!!!
@@AnAdorableWombat that's what media says buy could have being given something to kill them
The brother should have just accepted that he wasn't lead. They made it clear when they were signed. Basically, he's the reason Heavy didn't want to work with them. One apple spoiled the bunch. Just like at work, the upper management promotes who they want to. Everyone else wait their turn. Everyone can't be the lead. The one dude should have just been kicked out, sad to say. He seemed jealous of his brother.
Candy Rain is a classic!! Love ❤️ that song forever.
