I improvise over the Am pentatonic scale in all 3 positions. starting at the first (lower position) then 2nd then 3rd position on the 13th fret. you can also throw in C major and G major scale notes. I never like to try and duplicate a solo that was planned out but improvised in the studio. The lead guitar player of the Expendables (Raul) is a jazz player so he has a huge "vocabulary" of licks to draw upon.
