@@GabrielTravelerVideos LOL... Hi, Gabriel! I loved this video. I also liked the fact that you mentioned Melania. Whatever anybody thinks of the Trumps, facts are facts and it certainly is worth mentioning. Thanks for sharing and friendly greetings from Laško (pronunciation: lushko) the city the beer was brewed that you drank :)
Ljubljana surprised me because it doesn't feel like a capital city or a big bustling city like other places I visited in Europe. Very laidback which suits an Aussie like me.
We, locals pronounce the name Loo-blah-naah in slovenian: Lublana. The J insertions only happened after an artificial linguistic reform, but the local dialect is still prevalent.
I enjoyed Ljubljana (I don't understand why so many people find it difficult to pronounce.) Though I only took a day trip there when I was visiting Zagreb. I ate at a Bosnian restaurant in Ljubljana and I ordered more food than I had Cevapi and I ordered the double portion but the waitress was like 'No, no please get the single portion' God I wish I listened to her. :D

Hi Gabe, I went to Ljubljana last October and I can say that you did that city justice. You showed the beautiful, the fairytale-like things, the ugly (which really isn't so ugly compared to other cities), and the normal everyday things. You captured it all! Thank you for sharing!
Being living 3 years in Ljubljana. The center is wonderful, the castle surroundings are too. There are some very beautiful spots like restaurants and pubs, old houses, etc. But, when you leave the center, you enter Yugoslavia in all of its "splendor". There you can find the worst architecture ever seen, roads full of holes, high concentration of CO2 emission. Take Šiška, Fužine or Bežigrad. Shortly, the urbanistic is terrible in Ljubljana. One would say:" Well, this holds for most of the cities." No, it does not. Take Budapest or Prague, for example. You have a lot to see outside the city center. Yes, Ljubljana is smaller in comparison, but that does not justify the incredible lack of other nice spots in the outskirts of the city.
Find local friends to take you places, they'll prove you wrong, my friend! Been living here for decades (Šiška, Bežigrad, Nove Fužine) and the only other city I love is my hometown :)
To all the people saying what’s with the graffiti, he rented a chep hotel in a part of the city where everyone wants to be a artist so there’s allout of the artistic installations there. Also from March until October each Friday you have the "open kitchen" concept with various food. You should also come in December - each day it is so great. I would just like to point out that in the part of the city where there were so many grafitti, it is actually full of grafitti on purpose. They don't clean grafitti on purpose so it gives that street (Trubarjeva street) a special vibe to it and it serves as a tourist attraction.
I see, so it's just that one street which they leave like that? That makes more sense. Also then the graffiti artists know they have one place they can paint and their art won't get cleaned off.

Very interesting to watch your videos! Want to ask about travel to Krakow and Warsaw in Poland and Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa in Ukraine, beautiful and historic cities with architecture!?
I love Slovenia and I really like your videos. BTW: I'm planning to visit Cape Meares in October. Do you know of any nice & cheap places to stay in that area???
It seems like the sun goes down very late. You arrived to your hostel at 6pm, went into city center, walked around, ate dinner and the sun was still out.
Thanks for the reply Reflex, I've been to western Europe and know they have longer daylight but wasn't sure about central Europe. I'll be in Croatia in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to the extra long summer days.
It depends where you go. A dorm bed in Dubrovnik or Split costs $30-40 USD per night, which is roughly the same as a dorm bed in London. Zagreb, Zadar, and Pula are closer to $20 USD per night. Entry to Plitvice Lakes or Krka National Park costs about $27 USD per person during peak season, which is very expensive for an attraction. If you want really cheap, head a bit further south to Albania, where dorm beds cost about $10 USD per night, even at the beach, and a 3-hour bus ride costs less than $5 USD.
Prune Tracy Interesting. There are definitely rooms available right now for the prices you mentioned. I had been searching online for rooms in July, and it looks like rates basically double or triple then. For example, the cheapest dorm with a decent rating within a reasonable distance of Dubrovnik city center for the nights of 19-21July is 33 USD per night. The cheapest in the old city - which is where you really want to be - is 53 USD.
Prune Tracy My preference is to stay as close to the city center as possible, even if it costs more. In Dubrovnik I stayed in the old town which made it very convenient to go for a swim, or get back to the hostel after a few beers at a bar. I find that some touristy places like Dubrovnik are most enjoyable at night when the crowds gave left, and quite often buses don't run late. Obviously if you're on a very tight budget, staying outside of the city is fine too.
One thing I noticed in your entire European tour that bicycle is the most popular two-wheeler in most of the European cities......it is good for the environment while in India most of the people ride bikes and scooters.....very few bicycles can be seen in big cities here......
Lot of european cities force peuple to use bicycle. Like in Ljubljana they banned motorize vehicles in city center so you don't have a choice, you need to walk or use bicycle, ok you can also use motorcycle but need to be electric and because the area is classified as pedestrian zone need to be registered as vehicle that is not faster then 25km/h.
What happened with Ljubljana.. all town scratched graffiti.. what a disappointment.. 10:10 Macedonian music, and then Vlatko Stefanovski from Leb i Sol, best Macedonian jazz-rock band and probably one of best balkans bands:)

Hey, Gabe. I wish you have time to visit the Phillipines. Its more to see beautiful islands there.
Love the T-shirt bro !
Very interesting to watch your videos! Want to ask about travel to Krakow and Warsaw in Poland and Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa in Ukraine, beautiful and historic cities with architecture!?
Yeah they all sound cool. I might have to save those places for another trip, we'll see.
I love Slovenia and I really like your videos. BTW: I'm planning to visit Cape Meares in October. Do you know of any nice & cheap places to stay in that area???
Thanks. I stayed at a cheap campground near there, but that's all I know right in that area. I'm sure you could find something on booking.com.
I love LJ city center
The secon pronounciation of the Ljubljana was correct. :)
It seems like the sun goes down very late. You arrived to your hostel at 6pm, went into city center, walked around, ate dinner and the sun was still out.
Thanks for the reply Reflex, I've been to western Europe and know they have longer daylight but wasn't sure about central Europe. I'll be in Croatia in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to the extra long summer days.
any country is worth visiting if they have cold beer and hot women !
Germany has the first, Italy has the second and the Western Slavs have both
Yeah Ljuliana is a beautiful city in Slovenia i been there 2001 back packning True Europe end UP i Greece
Hope you make it to Croatia. it's cheap and easy to get around.
ItinerantOne i really do appreciate the update. thank you.
Excellent step.....
What happened with Ljubljana.. all town scratched graffiti.. what a disappointment.. 10:10 Macedonian music, and then Vlatko Stefanovski from Leb i Sol, best Macedonian jazz-rock band and probably one of best balkans bands:)
I get that the cities name is hard but he completely fucked up the gnocchi pronunciation
I love how you pronounced Ljubljana as Đjubljana :D :D :D
It's always like Lubyana :) because J in in slavic langauges and also in Germany,is always pronounced like Y...Germans says JOT for J..so do we..
Melania would be proud!
Nice music!
You've said "Ljubljana" right the second time :)
Good to know!
Just to help,C in Slovenian is pronounced like TS for English speakers or Z for the German ones...
