    There's one main reason I like your channel over other travel channels on RUclips, and that is you actually film the city. Everyone else just films themselves talking into the camera instead of showing where they are at. Thanks for showing us the world and inspiring people to travel. Keep it up.

    16:15 yes, Enver Hoxha proclaimed Albania the world's first atheist state in 1967, that's why Albanians are not particularly religious - mainly they are 60% Muslim in statistics, but there are mostly no headscarves or hijabs on Albanian women and people mainly don't take religion seriously there, are mainly secular in nature. In Kosovo, it is different as Albanians there are nearly 100% Muslim and Yugoslavia was never so strong atheist state as Albania. However, there are also some Catholic traditions in Albania (from Venetian and Skanderbeg times as he was born Orthodox Christian, converted to Islam in Turkey as Janissary but after the battles against Ottomans he converted to Catholic Christianity and was a hero of Christian Europe at time, also for the Pope but not so much for Venetians) and in Albanian diaspora in North Macedonia - we all know Mother Theresa (originally Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu) who was born in Skopje into Albanian family.
    Tirana seems like interesting city and Albania is so special, distinct country. I am looking forward to see videos from Kruje and Kosovo. I also recommend Dürres and Gjirokastër as your video from Berat was really amazing 5 years ago.

    Gabe I think those bunkers were a great idea. If Ukraine had them now it would be most useful. One never knows anywhere in the world where they might be useful. In the USA many people in Pennsylvania and I guess around the USA built fallout shelters underground during the cold war. I always thought it crazy but look at the world today. Never second guess when something will be of use. So far that was the most interesting thing in Tirana.

    OPA means JUMP in Albanian, it isn't a Greek word! Nor are the kilts in Greece. By the way none of the greek Gods make any sense in Greek!
    2/3 of Greece in early 1800s were Albanian. Athens in 1800 had 8000 homes and ~80% were Albanian (Helene Glykatzi-Ahrweiler - Historian and Voted 100 Greeks of all time).
    The French archaeologist Edmond About described Athens in the following words3:“Athens itself, when founded, was only an Albanian village. Every night when the sun goes down, you meet Albanian couples around Athens who return from fieldwork.”

    I visited Tirane in autumn 2021.
    The poster with the pyramid is not how it looked like, it's how it's going to look like after a total renovation / convertion off the pyramid and the whole area. See article below.
    Tirana Pyramid renovation
    Dutch-architecture studio MVRDV is set to convert the 11,835-square-metre pyramid in central Tirana into a "peoples monument" that contains cafes, studios, workshops and classrooms where free lessons will be available to young Albanians. MVRDV is converting the Pyramid of Tirana into a youth cultural centre

    • @mendjelire8392
      @mendjelire8392 2 года назад +1

      Not a "cultural center" but a "TUMO center". A center for kids to learn coding. Not sure the classes will be free though. The classes have already started in rented space at Air Albania Stadium, temporarily until the pyramid is finished but because the demand is very high they might have to keep both spaces.

    Hey Gabriel, I think they should finish the pyramid to show that part of their history. As humans we have a tendency to forget our past. As a shrine to remember what went on before it might let it not happen again.
    I see what is going on in the world of today and I can't help myself from saying it all happened almost 100 years ago with Germany. It started out the same way and it could happen again.
    Remember the past or you are destined to repeat it.

    So interesting, I need to check out this museum. Interesting tidbit: Albania was not allied with former USSR--it was allied with China. Albania was not part of the Warsaw Pact. During the late Cold War (after mid 60's), the PRC and USSR were not friends, so Albania was this little Maoist output in Europe.

      @@GabrielTravelerVideos , no problem. I'm glad you left cause it showed that the protest started on March 6, a few days after you left, then the protest became a violent riot on March 9th with many people injured. It was ongoing til Sunday the 13th. Who knows, it may continue. I agree "crazy" especially with everything that's been going on... pandemic, Ukraine, etc. Be safe Gabriel!
