December 1985 was one of the most dangerous times in Uganda’s history, for the country was now divided into two. One area was controlled by President Tito Okello’s Military Council government, the other by Yoweri Museveni’s rebel National Resistance Movement. Kampala City was also divided among five allied armies, which could also fight each other. The Military Council was a union of the government army, UNLA and rebel groups that had been fighting the Obote regime. These included Dr. Kayiira’s UFM, Lt. Col. Nkwanga’s FEDEMU, Brig. Ali’s UNRF, Maj. Gen. Lumago’s FUNA along with some other smaller armed groups. Peace talks between Military Council and NRM were going on in Nairobi while fighting was also raging mainly at Katonga Bridge. This is when this press conference took place, amidst accusations that government had imported Sudanese mercenaries called Anya-Nya to help crush Museveni’s NRA. That all these armies later united under the NRM only came after NRA captured power in January 1986, which is another story. For now, here is a dose of the chaos that prevailed during Gen. Okello’s six months in power, only available at OwanaPaedia. ......................................................................................................................................................................... Thank you, Mr Owana; You have enabled me to appreciate the situation and the individuals of that era. Gen Bazillio Okello and Major Amin Onzi were indeed brilliant officers, I would pray more research into their careers would benefit military scholars.
Ha ha thanks for the historical clip . Mr. Owanapedia . Like u said Bazillio Okello was not fluent in English but Bambi he tried his best to answer some tough questions & in a calm way especially by the S.Korean journalist .
That's what's happening today killing of innocent pple kidnapping arbitrary arrests, so the current regime has learnt nothing from their predecessors .
Helo Mr I really love the history reviews u make kindly make a video about the life style of the 80s and 90s tell us about guys like the Afrigo band that have lasted for so long till todate
Thanks Mzee Owana. My question is; Beside the warm welcome by the wanainchi towards the new NRA gov't in 1986 Jan, which countries first recognised mr m7's presidency especially regionally? What did mzee Moi say about the man who attended peace talks but with different motives? Nyerere? I understand Habyarimana welcomed him (for the obvious reason that the 'Tutsi' exiles would stay in Ug & not come to disturb him).
What special qualifications did such army commander, who could not construct grammatically correct English sentence, have?? I know English is not a major qualification for army ranks, but should be a minimum requirement for effective communication, orders and commands. It is so shameful for an army commander of a country to sound like that, omg! God bless M7 for saving Uganda from such a bunch of powerful illiterates!
@@OWANAPAEDIA Yes I am tony.but kindly let us know where we can get the James kazini documentary you did.share a link here.ive failed to find it.Thank you for the great work.we are forever grateful.
On this day the 27th July 1985 will remain in my memories and also of those of many Ugandans as his Excellency and the the first Premier of Uganda Milton Obote the Son of Opeto was Ousted again from power during which His second period of rule ended after a long and bloody conflict known as the Ugandan Bush War, and thus prompting him to live the rest of his life in exile. R.I.P ✍😷🙏

The President spoke poorer English than that.

Until now, South Korean Embassy never returned to Uganda.
Come to think of it. I didn't realize that . Since that time S. Korean embassy has been closed
Federal Democratic Movement of Uganda (FEDEMU) was headed by Nkwanga, not Lwanga.
Please upload more 🥺🥺😭😭😭
Working on that, thanks for tuning in.
