I am finding these videos fascinating. In the 1960s when I first started attending I went with my grand father Arthur Turner and father Barry Turner who used to work on the gate letting people in from Bishop Street. Occasionally I would go with him before the match and the Press Room that is entered here was the room that was used for all the gatemen to congregate before the match and then be sent out to the turnstiles. Before the West Stand was built the room was also the director’s room on match days and I think was where the club secretary worked. The changing rooms before the West Stand were down in the corner of the Quarry Lane stand. In about 1974 they fitted out a new room for the gatemen under the West Stand. The gatemen brought their boxes containing the turnstile cash back to the room for counting just after kick-off. The stairs that went up to the left as they went through the Press Room door went up to the old Directors Box where the gatemen were allowed to sit and watch the game. The original male toilet just had a trough urinal like all the others on the ground and must have been refitted and tiled in the late 70s.
Enjoying these videos. Old stands are interesting and it’s quite a unique project, looking forward to seeing it progress. Crazy that some of it was supported by dry stone wall. I did sit in there once in the mid eighties on the wooden section, A wing and B wing if I recall correctly. Good luck Stags.
You will always come across problems when working on an old building, and when you have to barrow all the rubble by hand you know you’ve done a days work at the end of the day ,
Sid is a very experienced Structural Engineer and well respected he as taken on this challenge on a small budget anyone who has done any house renovation knows there is hidden problems and costs that you cannot see but the end product will keep the club on tract without borrowing money, well done Sid for keeping us informed on progress
Some of these comments are upsetting. Sid, to me, seems a genuine and very experienced and capable gentleman. Construction always throws up problems, especially in a modern age governed by strict rules. People also need to remember we have the oldest professional football stadium in the world which needs to be preserved as much as possible. It’s not all about size! I’m hoping some of the original features such as the ceramic bricks will be retained. If not these should be saved along with the old signage as it is serious Stags history. I will buy a brick if they go on sale! Additionally, certain aspects need to be retained, the narrow stand is a key feature of our (Mansfield Town Football Club) history and should be embraced. It is a premium in modern football and I feel is exceptionally important to British heritage. Not often in the modern era will you get the classic football experience given by a traditional stand. Can I ask why it was not possible to lower the floor instead of building up? Genuine question, just very interested. Thank you for the update, it is very much appreciated. Also, well done Stevo, obviously sick as a dog and very cold on site.
Looking forward to seeing the steelwork go in, as with any building job there never seams like there's any progress until you're out of the ground. Above ground is the easy bit👍
Be best to shut the stand down for good it’s never getting filled anyway can’t fill other stands. Just wish we were like chesterfield fill the ground every week
This is a joke isn't it ? are they a double act , if i was the owners of this football club i would be very concerned about this Sid guy running this progect .
@@trevorharrison-j9d Anybody can be a director by registering on company's house. It doesn't mean they know an absolute effing thing about construction

How can you spend this long on site and not realise those problems they should be identified pre construction

@ as an engineer I disagree with you have said, I’d question if an SI have been undertaken and the principles of cdm have been followed
You’ve clearly never set foot on a construction site
@ I clearly have a good few thousand times
