    are tolls and carpark expensive along your journey?

    • @MervynChew
      @MervynChew  6 месяцев назад

      Hi, I recalled the motorway toll fees are generally fine. Carpark charges at big cities such as Paris are expensive but not as expensive as some other countries from my experience. The key for road trips is to explore outside of cities and that's where parking is much cheaper and more options to avoid toll roads. I recommend doing some homework via Parkopedia, Calculator Tollsmart and plein-moins-cher (gas stations) websites to plan your journey and cost of road trip. All the best!

    Thanks for posting this informative vlog! Did you feel like you had enough time to enjoy each place or did you feel rushed? I'm hoping to do the same so I'd love to know your thoughts, thanks!

      Thanks for posting your queries too! The trip may look pretty rush to cover a third of France within 14 days with 3400km of driving. My partner and I deliberated on the duration of visit per town/city and planned the road trip meticulously. Some places we feel worth staying longer are Nice and Cannes. Suppose if we have 1-2 more extra days, I would spend it on Strasbourg and checking out of other French Alps. Places for touch-and-go are Nimes, Riquewihr, Colmar. Hope this helps!

      Any issues with the languish barrier?
      I can speak English and Spanish

      @@hugovera5332 @Hugo Vera Hi, I would recommend learning some common french words such as bonjour, bonsoir, etc... It will definitely help in establishing conversation with the french better. English isn't a barrier as many ppl understand English in big cities but less so at the outskirts. I have encountered a young waitress who couldn't understand English and I used my mobile phone Google Translate to bridge the barrier. Google is your best friend. Hope this helps.

    Your vdo is perfect. We looking at doing the same but worried about driving over there. How did you find driving there? How did the toll work? And was parking hard to find. Thank you

      Driving at France has been great especially away from Paris City. I have no issues to pay the toll fee by VISA/Master credit card. Just prepare an extra card incase the other one doesn't work. Ensure to enter the correct lane that shows credit card signage. I do recommend to do some homework on parking garage and alternative ones too. Avoid driving during Summer holidays, big cities like Paris as traffic can be very heavy. Many roads in Paris have been redesigned to be car light. Cycling is a great alternative in the city. Learn the codes for petrol/diesel for petrol kiosk. Learn some French words for carpark such as Open "Ouvert", Closed "Fermée", Full "Plein". Lastly, take note of priority on the right - "La priorite a droite". I would drive in France if I have a chance again. Hope you find these tips useful. Thanks!
