I just want to say, I've been trying to find a good tutorial for *hours* and you are the *only* person to make a mistake, admit it and keep it in the video. Not only was your video helpful and easy but the honesty is so so refreshing! It's nice to see a creator who is real and relatable 🥰
I'm an old hippie. I once had lots of tie-dye everything, that I did myself. We used to rinse our finished items in white vinegar and water before washing in plain cold water, to set the dye. Back then, we used powdered Rit dyes that we mixed ourselves. Another fun technique was kind of reverse tie dye, using bleach. You would start with a colored T-shirt , choose a pattern with your rubber bands and then apply bleach to the areas in-between. This method has to be done quickly, because you want to rinse off the bleach as soon as it gets as light as you want it. And the rubber bands or zip ties have to be super tight. The bleached lines probably won't be completely white, but it's a cool look.
Thank you so much this tutorial! I’m about to try this for the first time for my kiddos to wear for Dr. Seuss week at school on Monday! You definitely helped me and I’m glad I watched this tonight so I can get it going! I bought brand new shirts that said pre shrunk already but I’m thinking I should wash real quick!
Thank you for the tutorial! so helpful. I'd have loved to seen the 'after' once washed. I watched the whole video hoping to see the finished product and they weren't shown. 😌
Once you use the dye can you save it and use it again or do you have to throw it out and how long of time do you have to use it before it does not color like you want
My child and I just finished 4 shirts, we tried the spiral, the crinkle, and the last one You showed. I call it octopus legs. And they turned out so amazing. We are beginners but are no so in love. The shirt that was made for my boyfriend is going to be his father's day gift this weekend. Thank you for making this video
Thank you for the techniques! Just as a little comment on something that would have been really helpful, this is marked as something for beginners and I know there were a couple major steps I wish you went into more detail about. It's probably just because I'm a perfectionist mom and am wanting to make sure we do this perfectly, but things like the lack of details with rinsing out the shirts, cold water? hot water? Am I just dunking them or rinsing them under a faucet? is this going to make the colors all mix together and mess up? Will there be dye all over my washer after I wash each garment? Should I be using hot or cold water? There were several other times I wish you went into detail, but we already did it so I'm really just leaving this comment as a polite critique since I would love to be watching more of your videos in the future! Thank you very much and we are about to unwrap our tie dye surprises! Very excited!
Coukdnt agree more with this comment. I appreciate your polite critiquing as too many people in this word just do not choose this method. It is clearly way more effective in attaining the desired outcome 👏🏼 👏🏼 Thank you! *I too would like to know about what temp to wash each garment…. Too bad no response from creator- yet. 🤞🏻
I washed one shirt in water after having it in plasticbag over night. The colours came out immediately. So I searched the internet and found out you should NOT rinse it in water afterwards but lay the clothes down to dry before putting it in the washer. I did that, and put it in the washer. Clothes came out white 🙄
Thank you so much for this video. I love the items you made. They turned out so great. My husband bought me some kits tye dye kits for my birthday. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks again!
My daughter made a pillow case at school and she told me i had to wash it after 6 hours. I washed it and all the die washed out except the blue. She had 4 colors and now it's white and blue. I feel so bad i thought i did something wrong but now i think it was the material.
I found so many white shirts, so I tried it too. The results are amazing ! I made a video, check it out if you like: ruclips.net/video/yWFcH4r03c0/видео.html
We soaked in soda ash first , dyed them, waited 24 hours, took rubber bands off, then rinsed with water...... all the color practically came off... what did we do wrong?
Rinse it really good with cold water & then make the water progressively warmer. Once it is fully free of color coming off, THEN take the rubber bands off & gently rub around the spots where the rubber bands were! ta da. Tip: Instead of waiting 24 hours for the dye to soak in, cook the item for 2.5 minutes in the microwave. I've been doing it for years & never had a problem with the technique. Best to ya
What type of color are you using? If you're using the regular RIT dye off the shelf, your fabric needs to be as close to 100% cotton. If not, the color disappears. Could that have been the problem?
We tried. Didnt work. Put it in bags, let it sit over night. One of the blouses I rinsed in water afterwards as you said, but then the colour went away. So the others I airdried. When they were dry we put it in the washing machine and they all came out White.. my kids are so bummed as am I. We spent so much time on it, they were so cool but now it was all for nothing. Then I google that some say you have to iron it before putting it in the machine. Others say you need to use a special kind of soap in the machine. I'm confused and close to giving up
Thanks for sharing this very informative video. I like the different designs that you showed. Great tip about making sure you know that the colors will blend a little. And to not use green, orange and purple together, because they could overlap and turn brown. I like the ring effect, I hadn't seen how to do that one before. Good tip about the placement of the rings.
These turned out so beautifully!!! Thank you so much for a great video!! I’m going to do this today with the Sunday school class as we focus on the biblical story of Joseph! We will make a shirt of many colors as to Joseph’s coat of many colors!
i watched the moriah elizabeth video and she suggested not to unless you have lots, (and dont want to do 12 loads of laundry) but before you to that to make sure they definitly dont bleed, was them out SUPER and I mean SUPER good if you want to wash them all together
I would love to see dry tye dying! Just bought a dry kit from michaels craft store! I really like some of your designs! Thank you so much for teaching and sharing ❤️ do you already have a video posted for dry dying ? :)
Maybe just take a white wash cloth and soak that extra dye right on up.. I've tie dyed white wash cloths, sports bras and pillowcases and I'm about to do undershirts

This is my first time tie dying and I found it very helpful. I would like to see a tutorial on the Japanese effect and the bleach tie dying. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
@@sherivegasartist do you know if triblend t shirts dye well? All the shirts I've dyed in the past have been rough 100% cotton and I'd like a soft one:)
I don't want anything unless I want something pastelie looking t-shirts are done dry absolutely done dry you want them first if you want a lighter tie-dye T-shirt. But if you want heavier color like if you're using just like two tie dye colors do not wet your t-shirts do not wet the clothing do them dry and take your time they turned out perfect.
How come all of you in here had succes with this? Am I the only one who spent days on this and just ended up with white clothes and dissapointed kids? 😢
She is not a professional and fails to cover some important parts of the process. To keep the dye from washing out, soak the fabric in soda ash before folding. You also need to keep the Dyed items warm (80 degrees or more) and let them sit 24 hours before rinsing. 100% cotton is best, the more polyester, the more faded it will look because dye only adheres to natural fiber. Don't use tulip or other craft store dye, as it washes out quickly. Use procion fiber reactive dye.
My 8 yrs daughter was excited to have her own dye business.. we tried to do some t-shirts as a beginning but it all have been damaged 🥺💔 we kept it for 24 hrs wrapped and it was amazing once we opened them .. then we dry them in the machine and they’ve been destroyed.. can you please give us helpful hints? I don’t want her to be disappointed 🥺

Kindly advise from where I can buy this?
So I've seen ppl wet the fabrics before and not wet them whats the best tovdo before tye dying....
The tie dying is so messy and the final products look bad. Definitely dont make more of these.
Maybe best to keep your finger on that cap while shaking it ... just in case
I came here to learn tie dye technic ..
This is my first time tie dying and I found it very helpful. I would like to see a tutorial on the Japanese effect and the bleach tie dying. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Do you know where I can buy the dying colour ?
@Christian Audigier & Jhonny Walker
You can get them on Amazon or at a local craft store, such as hobby lobby or Michaels.
This is an age old Indian technique

I have a question for you I just started tie dying 4 days ago for some reason the red dye when it dries turns pink
Do you know anything about tote bags tie dye and shall we been doing it in cold water and rung it out while its wet so it can dry.
