Zeki Muren loved not only by Turks but by all minorities in Turkey who pushed him from day 1, He used to sing on Turkish radio live with a live orchestra. These may have been lost. But his recordings are still here. He had a lot of sad songs and people cried. But he had happier tunes as well. A lot of film soundtracks. I would suggest a more folk song like "Bahçevan" from similarly named film. Just amazing song.

Zeki Muren is a controversial figure at some point in classical Turkish music tradition. He changed the structure of turkish music almost alone in 20 years, no one could not succeed in such radical turn considering the long lasting tradition which was still at the center of turkish music. Classical Turkish music is based on maqams including more than 100 different ways of singing the songs. Before Muren, singer was not an important figure because the better for music makers was to fulfill the tradition in a corresponding way. However, Muren's reception was worldwide and his reception went through his own style even though he was part of that tradition. You can check the difference by comparing his songs from 1950s to those from 1980s.
