She lost several family members in the earthquake. The Village she is named after is ruined. She choose this song because she found a voicemail message on her phone off her cousin who was looking for her after her last concert in Turkey. The message said "where are you" and since her cousin was one of the victims you understand the emotion.
You hear about those catastrophes in the news and you're speechless of the magnitude of the devastation. But it rises to a whole new level if the despair get's a face and a voice. I deeply feel for her and her family but also for everybody in Turkey and Syria who had to endure that kind of loss and pain.

Lots of her relatives passed away because of the massive earthquake in Turkey. Her name comes from a village name "Karsu". Now this Karsu village is gone😓
Karsu got well known in the Netherlands when she joined recently in the tv show Beste Zangers, just like Floor Jansen in 2019. She also makes cooking programs for tv. Her vocals and piano playing is great, such talent. Karsu was a voice on Dutch tv after the earthquake in Turkey, and has lost family and friends in that disaster. This performance was on a Dutch tv evening where money was raised to help those in need in Turkey and Syria. Amazing she could perform while all these emotions must have played through her.
I saw this performance before. I am glad to have an artist like Karsu! I am from the Netherlands as well. So I am proud. And I saw her also on the tv program ‘Beste Zangers’. She’s not scared to show her emotions.
Im really unhappy because of the earthquake happened in Turkey at 4 am 6 February 2023 and im grateful to people who shared our Turkish people feelings ,Thank you so much ❤
My whole family lives in 3 big cities where this terrible earthquake took place, the only thing is that no one is harmed, but every day I grieve for the people who died, I burn separately for those who lost their loved ones, God help them all
Many thanks to Dutch people, Many thanks to Dutch rescue team, and all donations. Proud of this Dutch society, dank jewel lieve mensen ❤️ jullie lieten mensen in nood niet alleen Karsu , sterkte, je bent een pracht mens ❤️🙏 Background of this song This song was written by a Turkish folks singer . We have so much history together, us Dutch and Turkish people, and build a relationship since the 60's. My heart goes out to the Turkish and Syrian people, I pray for them. 💜
Like you I don't speak this language, but there was no mistaking the pain expressed in this heartbreaking song. My heart goes out to everyone effected by this tragedy. 💔💔💔
I want to write something to explain what we've lived. But, unfortunately, there are no words to explain our pain. Thank you everyone, who prayed and cried with us.
Karsu lost about 20 family members in the quakes it hit in the middle of her family’s home towns. This song is dedicated to her cousin i believe who also died in them.
It feels wrong to like your comment, so I'll just thank you. I wasn't aware of Karsu's loss, this helps me understand Karsu, this song and where she's coming from, better.
I first saw her on Beste Zangers and I don't know why we needed that program to get to know her outside the Turkish community. She was great as a singer and as a person. Also in the best Beste Zangers tradition Anneke van Giersbergen, that you know as a metal singer, covered Jest Oldu, a cover Karsu is known for, and did that partly in Turkish. That video is blocked in the Netherlands on youtube because of a copyright claim by the guy who wrote the lyrics (Beste Zangers only asked the composer for permission). I think it is still available in other countries.
I first encountered Karsu in the Beste Zangers season a couple years ago. Every one of her songs was a complete surprise and totally amazing. My favorite was An de Kant, which couldn't be more different from this song, and really shows off her range of talents. I admit I don't understand a word without subtitles (and they're hard to find, but she does such an amazing job it doesn't matter. ruclips.net/video/RpYyzccuYFw/видео.html
You can still understand the pain from her almost cry no matter what language you speak. You can understand this is nothing pretending to be like any other day for a performer. She lost many from her family. I also lost some friends and some distant relatives but its not just losing people you love. This pain comes from much deeper. People, just like her or millions of others literally lost their entire lives built over untill now. They lost their memories, their first kiss, photo albums, the corner shop where you get bread everyday and have some small talk, entire savings, i mean literally everything. Entire villages, counties wiped out, hell even couple of cities almost entirely destroyed where they have to rebuild %80 to %90 some areas. For example i'm also sad, angry etc. for my lost ones but i'm more sad for my late grandmother because one of the cities was her one and only beloved hometown. She was always crying when she tells me how she bursted in tears when they had to leave their town to fly to Germany back in the 60's. She loved her hometown so deeply. She always got up when there was any kind of news on tv about her town or radio. She was always getting excited when she hear something about there. So i grew up with the same love for that town and i had to watch it got destroyed over night. My only relief tho and i thank god for this she didint have to see this herself. If she was alive today, i'm %100 sure she wouldnt handle to watch her beloved city's gotten destroyed, her beloved counties where she lived and had her most vivid memories entirely wiped out and she would have an heart attack or so from the agony. So i can understand Karsu's pain much easly and saddest part is that this not only me. There are so many people like to or her.
Neşet Ertaş (RIP), an extraordinary person, singer, writer from Turkey, he has more than 300 marvelous songs, lyrics, music and performance all by a person. Even if you don't understand the lyrics you feel her pain. she lost 16 familie members in the earthquake. Terrible. and then still find the strength to sing such a beautiful song, respect.

A song that reminds me a lot of this song Baraye by the Iranian singer Shervin Hajipour. Maybe you could make a similar review of that song?🎵
bır türk nerde olursa olsun aslin unutmaz karsu candır
🫂
The song lyric is; The one who knows from my strange state,
Şu garip halimden bilen, işveli nazlı
My heart is always looking for you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen?
My sweet tongue, my smiling face, my gazelle eyes
Tatlı dillim, güler yüzlüm, ey ceylan gözlüm
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
My sweet tongue, my smiling face, my gazelle eyes
Tatlı dillim, güler yüzlüm, ey ceylan gözlüm
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
crying if i cry, smiling if i laugh
Ben ağlarsam ağlayıp, gülersem gülen
Who understands all my troubles and knows my heart
Bütün dertlerim' anlayıp, gönlümü bilen
As if knowing my heart, smiling at my face
Sanki kalbimi bilerek, yüzüme gülen
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
As if knowing my heart, smiling at my face
Sanki kalbimi bilerek, yüzüme gülen
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
No one knows my secret wound in my cinema
Sinemde gizli yaramı, kimse bilmiyo'
I don't hurt any doctor, there is no ointment
Hiç bir tabip yarama, merhem olmuyo'
I'm a bent weirdo, I'm not smiling
Boynu bükük bir garibim, yüzüm gülmüyo'
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
I'm a bent weirdo, I'm not smiling
Boynu bükük bir garibim, yüzüm gülmüyo'
My heart is always looking for you, where are you, where are you?
Gönlüm hep seni arıyor, neredesin sen, neredesin sen?
she lost 16 relatives
This is the original song by Neşet Ertaş ruclips.net/video/TmVVK2hBc48/видео.html
she is verry good
I'm so sorry, but I couldn't watch the whole reaction, just like the original video. It was too heartbreaking for me to watch. So after 50 seconds into the song itself I already had to stop the video.
She lost 17 family members
