Thanks for great tutorial. David, quick question. How does Chandler Zener compare to classic 1176 (all buttons in ect) for kick and snare parallel compression? Thanks.
They are nothing alike. Topology is different, action is different. I like the Zener in parallel in THD mode, other than that is really not that versatile and it wouldn't be my first pick for most tasks.

I have a question related to the parallel channel, how do you judge how high you bring it into the mix?
I pull the fader down to zero, close my eyes and bring the fader up until it feels good.

Question. Why does the kick sound like it switches key or note when you add the ssl stuff to it.
Not sure if you're talking about the hardware or C1 but regardless, it doesn't of course. What you hear is simply an extremely simple so sound (kick) which is almost a short sine wave changing tone because of the added harmonics

I usually start with the 5500 and Fatso on the drum bus but I dont turn em on until I'm done with the single parts. 2Bus is usually on tho'
