Reminds me of the passive Motown DI box. I'm guessing this one is a lot more complex though! I really need to get me one of these. Every demo I've watched sounds absolutely magnificent!

I actually developed a DI box that uses a proprietary large core LMI50600 transformer (50kohm:600 ohms). It's called the LMI Motor City Big Block DI Box. Check out @werespondwereact on Instagram :)

Langston, this is an amazing bit of gear! I hear and appreciate the difference it makes and it's on my list of gear to purchase.
BUT.... I'm intensely curious about the story behind this.
How on earth did this box come into existence???
Naturally, you have proprietary tech secrets, but I'm wondering more about the journey...
Did you slave away at this with years of your own DIY tinkering?
Did a retired audio legend hand you a book of secret schematics?
Is there a team of amazing geeks behind the scenes?
I just feel there's an untold story here. :)

My bet is years of geeking out and hundreds of minor iterations.

I have a history of being a tinkerer, but also a designer. I had really strong mentors like Oliver Archut of AMI and Tab Funkenwerk, Tom Reichenbach of Cinemag, Dave at Jensen was always helpful. The transformer gurus definitely were a major influence on my attitude about transformers, but I also was more into being a rule breaker. My time with JJ Audio Mics got me extremely deep into component design, I had a bunch of transformer designs made and even a microphone capsule. This is something I carried with me to Handsome Audio. If you don't own your parts you don't own anything. The rest of it is physics, experimenting. Trial and error, blind tests, field tests and overall a confidence in my work. My goals for Zulu were myriad. For me it's the color and the crunch you can get, for others it's the cleaner fidelity Zulu can offer. It's untouchable on so many sources, it's designed from the ground up for creating and for finishing. It can working during tracking (+15db at the inputs), it works during mixing and mastering. Our users at every level know that Zulu delivers the goods and then some! I feel it's one of the best around.
