@@user-hm9cc2iq1tHyenas are very smart. They always outsmart their prey. You never see them getting gored by buffalos or other animals and flying in the air like lions. Lions get gored even by wild beasts lmao
Some spotted hyena clans in Ngorogoro Crater have learnt to even pull down healthy adult bull buffaloes, not just old, sick ones. Those clans have also been witnessed pulling down healthy zebra stallions as well. I haven't noticed clans from other parts of Africa daring to do the same. Predation in large mammalian predators is a learnt behavior. Offspring learn from their mother or other pack/pride. So prey choices and predation capabilities of the same species can vary drastically from area to area. This has been seen in several other predators as well. Kruger male leopards routinely bring down healthy, adult warthog boars, however male leopards from other areas of Africa rarely do. Bull Gaur (largest wild cattle) are immune to tiger predation in North India & Nepal but are routinely preyed by Tigers in South India & Thailand.
Old ill and weak buffalo separated from the rest of it's herd or left behind as it's to slow to keep up with them. The buffalos who came in the morning are probably another herd coming through, even if it got saved at night this would have happened sooner or later.
Our guide lives in the bush in Botswana for his whole life and he saw this for the first time in his life! Yes, buffalo was already old. We are not sure if that was the herd to which it belonged.
@@LivingZoology Yes unfortunately it's old and I think if the other buffalo's came earlier on and helped it out it may have gone on for a little longer but inevitably it would have died as when they can't keep up with the herd whether there old ill or injured there eventually left behind and that's what probably happened to this one. They normally help one another out regardless of whether there comrade is injured as there very courageous. That Buffalo when laying on the ground was still alive while being eaten. You could see it’s eye balls flickering around. Hyenas often do that. Such a poor way for any living creature to go.
1 Buffalo vs even 2 hyenas is sometimes tough for the Buffalo as the hyenas would start from the side or rear. But 2 Buffaloes vs any number of hyenas would beat the hyenas down. The buffaloes would help each other when hyena attacks the unreachable side of buffalo

You are absolutely right, there is a high diversity in hunting habits of various predators according to the location.

That's right. Hyenas can't hold a fork and a knife in their paws like we do in our hands. They have no other choice but to use their teeth.
not rlly sad tbh.

Hyenas aren't doing anything special. Buffalo also eat their food the same way.

Thank you for watching. Unfortunately in this case for the buffalo the herd came too late.
No, entire herds of buffalo scamper away in fear from a smaller number of wild dogs. It would be similar with hyenas.
You saw in this video the whole buffalo herd running away when one hyena appeared. What are you talking about?
Buffalo shd run away
Thank you for watching! It was an old buffalo.
That is weak old buffalo
