  • Two weeks ago I made a vide about wanting to downsize my "collection" to only have guitars I truly love and focus more on creating music that many of you seemed to feel similarly about. I did indeed put my money where my mouth was and have sold seven guitars with more to go, but is sticking around and more importantly - do I already have regrets?

    I did a similar sell-off a little over a year ago. While it initially stung a bit, afterwards I felt pretty good; odd since I sold the most expensive "dream" guitars I'd bought (Collings acoustic, 80s Hamer, korina G&L with P90s). I kept several of the lower priced ones, like the 2002 Fender Highway 1 Strat, my first serious guitar; a Martin 000-15 (sapele), my first good acoustic; a Fender Japan '62RI Tele; and my go-to, a 2008 PRS Mira. I was tempted to use the proceeds to buy a Gibson 335, something I wanted since I began playing, but after a while I decided, nah, I have all I need.

Fender sort of incorporated a slight bit of the Marrguar there with the switches, it makes some nice sounds, but it has no trem. I might go that route and work out some kind of trem onto it.

    Firstly, well done on your milestone for subscribers - more than well deserved and hope you reach the next milestone soon. Next, I was just about to respond to your selling of the Jaguar because a) it's the most gorgeous colour of Daphne blue and b) I was thinking you have no Jaguar in your collection and that would have really surprised me. But then, right at the end, we got to understand why. So, are you, (reading between the lines), telling us that you are ultimately a Tele guy?? And personally, I think a Strat, Tele, Jazzmaster and Jaguar (and maybe a Mustang) are the quintessential, bottom line 'must haves' of a guitar collection. (I'm just not a Gibson style fan). 🎸🎸🙂🙂

      I have always said the tele is the best guitar ever made haha, but with the other Jaguar it all came down to fret size ( medium jumbo ) and super narrow nut width ( 40mm ) that led me to say that's not gonna be the one I keep forever so best to just move it on.

      I mean, that's an instrument that kinda starts in '62 and then I don't know if is affected by the CBS buyout already in '64??? This to me says there's a pretty limited range of truly great ones, but like Norman's shows off one that's been babied in the case since 1963, but then he also expects to make his rent for the year when he sells it, right? But if you want one to really play instead of collect, then I guess you already know if you can find a newer used model or go cust shop, etc.

      I might go back soon with a bit more focus, but mostly buying from GC the past couple years, at least it comes to my house and I have over a month to return, even if the selection is mostly MIM demo models and such.

I keep hearing about how this is a terrible market for sellers since everyone (*cough* *cough* me *cough*) is starting to thin down their pandemic purchases. I haven't gotten much traction on my listings (only doing FB Marketplace locally for now). Did you have to accept offers that were lower than you would have thought? Did the listings sit for a long time? I priced mine on the lower end hoping that'll get them moving but I'm just trying to gauge how long I should anticipate them sitting around.

      All of mine sold without negotiating a price within the two weeks of posting the two videos, but honestly it came down to the fact that I purposely go out of my way to buy guitars that were either not available in the USA ( Japanese made ) or limited run out of production guitars. Trying to sell guitars that are still being mass produced now or were mass produced for years and still available is a nightmare, some of my friends are lucky to get half and sometimes just no hits at all.

      Yeah someone actually messaged me about that one wanting it desperately for a specific project - I was intrigued enough to say sure you can buy it haha

    why not replace the momose jag instead of getting another fender?

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  24 дня назад

      I'm not opposed to it, or a VanZandt they are just not all that common and the three new momose ones available at Watanabe aren't specs I'm interested in.

      Yeah those were the ones I'm talking about. I really dont' dig the exotic wood and limited run models colors on Jags and the three at the bottom from Watanabe aren't what I want.

      I still got em, I was trying working on two of them and didn't want to risk any lubricant getting on the neck itself

    When did you get rid of the Momose Jag?

    • @AudiomoMusic

      About 8 months ago at this point, unfortunately it was a matter of weight being a major factor and having a hernia didn't help the cause. I miss that one.

    Have you got anything in a custard colour?

  • @EnterJustice

    Awesome, you're putting your money where your mouth is. So you sold 7, are still selling 2 online (+ a few others locally), will keep 7, and have another one coming in.
    9+ out, 8 in. That's not a bad balance - much more realistic than the "only keeping 2, going minimalist" approach.
    I do like Keith from 5 Watt World - but it seems like he's still struggling with GAS. Sells stuff, accumulates stuff again from the impression I got. Just make sure you don't fall into the same trap... You just sold some stuff and have another one inbound already so.. ;-)

      I honestly had that exact thought. I knew if I sold everything but the black tele, the jazzmaster, and the seventy seven I would still eventually be shopping to "replace" the other ones I ended up keeping. It's all about finding the right amount for you, and to me I think this is the much more in the ballpark than either 18 guitars or going down to 2-3.
      Lots of people do what that guy does, they sell EVERYTHING only to regret it or fall for the hype of new product and end up starting from scratch - fortunately for me outside of the Suhr all the Fenders I love have been out of production for years or in some cases decades hahaha

      Sometimes you have to move gear on if it’s not being used. I am at a good place with my guitars and have been exploring amps lately.

    • @AudiomoMusic
      @AudiomoMusic  25 дней назад

      I sold it right before I made the first video two weeks ago, if I ever do a modern S style guitar again it will be the suhr classic S. All about the neck profile.

      @@AudiomoMusic I only tried that neck on ultra strat and that's so far the most comfortable neck I ever held in my hands. I have never tried Suhr and my preference might change over time, but so far Cory's strat seems perfect to me, as I'm not a fan of ultra's noiseless pickups
