Do not forget the expansion for the first game. United Offensive was better than the original and introduced a multiplayer game type, Base Assault, that to this day has not been replicated and in my opinion is one of the best to ever be in a shooter.

      100% yes.
United Offensive was (is?) the jam. Jeeps, tanks, basic killstreaks, great maps, modded servers, large multiplayer battles...

The weapon sounds is pure nostalgia. And can remember when every game had a Moody, Price, Ingram, etc.

So ahead of it's time. Multiplayer was great though. Relied entirely on skill, was before the days of weapon customization so it was a pretty level playing field.

To understand how good COD 1 was... you have to have been there.
Iron sights were not really a thing before this and Band of Brothers was fresh in everyone's mind. So the references were obvious.

When they deserted dedicated servers, this made me realise they were more money oriented, not gamer oriented ,they didn't give a 💩 about enjoyment.

19:50 Don't forget, it's a 2003 game. Can't expect miracles of detail on large maps like this. Look at how other games of the time looked like.

i will say on your point around 9:05, the first call of duty really strikes how how hectic war can be and how quickly things can go from bad to worse. Your first objective in the entire game is to link up with someone when you land alone in a field only to find your SGT is dead and YOU have to set the stuff down, no one to tell you what to do. (IE: No "SGT RAMIREZ, DEFEND THIS BURGER SHOT"). It's just you and you know what you must do, which i feel does add to the intensity of the situation. The sound design while outdated is quite dense with the audio. Being hit with a nearby explosive and getting the shellshocked feeling is just *chefs kiss* and doesn't hold back from how disorienting the experience can be.
It's far from a milsim realistic experience, don't take it for that - but it does push the feeling of organized chaos that warfare can be.

When it comes to the AA turret section at the end of the Dam escape - it's not just a bug on modern hardware, it was like that on older PCs as well. I remember it very vividly because this is the first game ever I beat on highest difficulty (I was 7 years old, yeah I started young) and when I was playing it then I had to adjust my shots as well.

Campaign of COD1 & COD2 where absolutely incredible given they have no story, just epic ww2 battle experience.
    Big Red One was awesome.
MW1 & 2 where fantastic and So was black ops 1... after that cod campaigns were over in my opinion 👎... Cold War story was alright. And the Clean House mission in MW reboot was epic. That's about it.

If it wasn’t console only the game that needs some love is “The Outfit.” You get to call in vehicles and gun emplacements. It was I think a launch game for the Xbox 360. Everyone needs to check it out. Fun 3rd person old school shooter with a gimmick of calling in reinforcements and various weapon positions.

I remember getting an illegal copy of this game for my PC from one of my class mates shortly after it was released, installing it in the afternoon and completing it after just 3-4 hours on the same day. The campaign was super short and because the CD key was pirated I couldn't even play the multiplayer.

For me CoD 1 is still just awesome, and it's expansion is even better.
But overall these pre-modern warfare (2007) CoD's were my favourite gameplay wise because while they were heavily scripted, they weren't obnoxious in their scripts like some later CoD's were. CoD 1 and 2 for pc, Finest Hour (most unique, with very different feel), Big Red One and CoD 3 - these games were awesome. And my personal favourite was CoD3 (best on xbox 360). It had an amazing campaign, that felt like one, huge military operation. It had great both enemy and allies AI (often your brothers in arms helped you clear the enemy position while you were seeking cover), and it had slightly altered gunplay, were shots weren't as accurate, so that you were relying more on map layout, and suppressing fire to control the battlefield. Scripts were also amaizng - enemy respawns made sense, and most of the time the amount of enemies was fixed, only to include respawns in certain points where it fitted well (like defending position from time limmited attack).

You should try the expansion: Call of Duty: United Offensive. Also, at least read the between mission narrative bits from the British and American campaigns, as there are "cliff notes" added by one or more character correcting what was on the original mission statement.

I still have cod 1 and 2 installed on my old computer. But I was unable to finish united offensive for some reason. I believe damage is bugged in the last mission there and somehow connected to framerate with certain events. But other than that these games are still very much enjoyable and my all time favorites next to World at War

I played the older cods recently and honestly, im not impressed. Story is rushed so much it becomes a non understandable mess. The difficulty is all over the place and on harder difficulties it becomes literal hell. Grenades have bs ranges and enemies react far too quick. Not to mention its incredibly short.
With cod 2 some of the pacing was fixed and was imo a much better experience than 1 or waw.
With world at war my god... The grenade spam is real... The game itself is, again, very short but it was ungodly painful coz even if i sat in cover for barely a second theres already a grenade at my feet. The ranges on nades are the biggest bs in that game. If the indicator just barely shown up for even 1 macrosecond its already the kill range. Quick time events were confusing and at times refused to accept keyboard input in them. The characters were unrecogniseable from basic npcs and interaction ranges for story elements make no sense in multiple locations. Character models also confusing af. Like the pacific campaign with the sgt. He states they arent even 30 yet look over 50. Also the infinitely respawning enemies made some areas such a boring chore. And that counter sniper mission.... Lets just say that after that utter sadistic, bs bastard, i might need a new desk.

Still don’t understand how everyone thinks the story and characters in Brothers in Arms are some sort of top tier example of WWII shooter campaigns. None of the characters are likable. They’re poorly voice acted and even more poorly written to the point of absolute cringe dialogue. Which isn’t a shock coming from the studio that brought us the terribly written Borderlands series. How can you possibly get attached to these characters that make me turn away from my screen in embarrassment during the awfully cringe cutscenes?
