I have loved the Allman Brothers since the 70s and always believed that Gregg Allman was one of the best blues singers ever not to mention the incredible talent of Dicky Betts and Duanne Allman. I finally got to see Gregg in 2015 at the San Diego County Fair and didn't regret a minute of it although I missed the great guitar undertones which were replaced by more horns, etc. to Gregg's delight and will. RIP Gregg thanks for the great music!

THE HARP PLAYER = JIM ESSERY. Met Jim in Flagler Beach after surfing...there was a bar across from the pier, walked over and he was playing with a drummer who was taught by Artemis Pyle (Skynyrd) and accompanied by a guitar player whose name is Ace Moreland who was friends with Steve Gaines (Skynyrd post Ed King). The deep south and Florida is a magical, magical place. Been out in Koo Koo Fornia for too long...music scene out here can't touch what the south has....unless you are into P Diddy "Greatest Musician" that can't play an instrument (eyes rolling). it's sad. In any event - Jim and Ace were awesome, super nice and gave me some of their CDs for free. I LOVED hearing Jim's stories about playing with the ABB. Super great guy. Ace had a studio and I went out to play some drums at his studio (i play guitar, drums and sing) and got to hear more Steve Gaines stories and Derek Trucks too - Ace knew him / jammed with Derek when he was a kid. Artemis lived out in St. Augustine (12 min up north on A1A)...as did Jim. Ace and Jim both passed away relatively young. Long live Rock N' Roll! Cheers y'all!
Bassplayersayer: I'm with you. Marvelous group interaction on Liz Reed - and Dan's beautiful solo. Dan's work having up Gregg on Not My Cross to Bear and It Just Ain't Easy can make you cry.
@@larryn2682 Totally respect your opinion. But Dickey himself said that the reason they brought Warren into ABB was because he was the only one that didn’t play too much like Dickey…they didn’t need someone copping Dickey’s style and Warren pushed Dickey to be better. Not my words, but his.
For certain, belushi could belt out the blues! One of the wonderful things about ABB was that they did often invite other performers up onto the stage with them, sometimes on the spur of the moment, especially back in the early days.
Gregs contribution to this music as a keyboardist is so often overlooked. His blues powered chording and jazz riffs were a major part of the Allman Brothers sound.
I liked this lineup. Saw them at the Greek Theater in LA that tour and Belushi came out for a couple of numbers, too. He seemed to have trouble with that signature Allman shuffle. Fun, though.
Dickey was at his peak here after the band added Toler, an excellent player who enhanced the pure ABB sound. The slide and sheer ferocious musical intensity of Duane will ever be missed as long as people "appreciate" music.
We lost the great Dickie Betts last night. What a killer Guitarist and what an amazing experience the ABB was. Absolutely the most destructive solo on Whipping Post I have ever heard. David ( Rook) Goldflies on the Bass is terrific on this recording. His work on Pegasus is outstanding. Rook never got the credit he deserved for his contribution to this incarnation of The Brothers
So true! In an interview on Tom Snyder Show, Gregg was talking about the band hiring a new bassist. When 'The Rook' began playing, the other bassist, trying out, packed up & left. That tells it all about the talent Goldflies brought to ABB.
