I'm using almost the same settings with my JCM800, and the ST9Pro+ is my favorite boost for it :D I can also recommend the MXR Custom Badass Modified Overdrive
I am gravitating towards the Joyo EQ + Boss GE-7 combo. The ProCo Rat while having a bit more reverb it seems, I also like this sound too for different reasons.
@@aheadofmetal if you put the FILTER at 12 o clock on the RAT, Bass and Treble at 4-5, Mid at 7 and presence at maybe 5-6, you've got Morbid Angel tone right there, when the 800 was the main amp. Still the same settings on the JCM 900 on channel 1, but the extra diode in the preamp there makes it a bit fuzzier sounding.
Nice shootout! Can never go wrong with the classics... Classic amp, classic boost (SD-1). I have the Waza version which IMO gives it a little more low end oomph that often gets lost when boosting but the regular SD-1 is also a perfect match for a Marshall. I also get great results from the Keeley Red Dirt (Germanium) on my Marshalls, especially with guitars that have higher output pickups.
Thanks! I havent tried the Red Dirt, but I think Andy Timmons likes it and if its good enough for him, it is probably good enough for anyone :) Agree on the SD-1. Haven't tried the waza version yet, but I'm sure it is really good.
@@aheadofmetal Right on! I didn't know Andy used the Red Dirt... Petrucci definitely does/did. Like most of us I've got a dozen or so overdrives/Tube screamers but those are the two I really like with my Marshalls. They work well with the modern 5150's too (those and the Maxon OD808).
@@aheadofmetal ENGL in general have a power sound, a lot of gain. My Fireball sounds huge also with the gain at 3. Normally I use high output passive pickups
0:26 that's all you need! Tight sound, chug and clear, without fuzz, and low freq. That's i'm love
Thanks dude. I think that was the EQ. That is my favorite also (mainly because it doesnt kill the lowend and feels the best to play)
@@aheadofmetal yeah, dude. You're right, it's EQ. If you set it up correctly, it will sound great and you'll be cool
@@sounddamageofficial agreed. I think its actually more versatile than drive pedals personally.
SD and a MXR Ten Band.
SD1 works insanely well with the Marshall
The SD1 is tighter and the RAT sounds sick!!!
Thanks dude!
Crushing!! Awesome work.
Thanks dude!
METAL ZONE FTW!!!
Yea dude. Metalzone w a little lowend boost crushes bigtime

I heard the cbmo is legit. I've never tried it.

Yea man. Eqs are nice and punchy and the rat is extra warm and sits back a bit
Sd1 that's all you need!!
Sd-1 is a classic for a reason. It just does "that sound" with a Marshall
Great video, when people focusing on learning they'll realise all you need is an sd-1
The market for overdrive pedals is way overhyped. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between any in a full mix tbh
With a $30 sd-1 and a $20 fish-n-chips eq, you could easily emulate every overdrive pedal out there.
the rat for sure! nice FF riffing
I love how much love the rat pedal is getting for this one; I really dig the low end.

@@AlexRamosDrTaz check out my video on the morbid angel tone :)
It got pretty close, probably would have nailed it without the extra mids in there
These sound good as fuck man.
Thanks dude!

All great, but I'm partial to the SD-1 and RAT2. The maxon is a cool option, for sure!
Thanks dude! I think all are good options honestly. SD-1 always brings that nice half-clip midrange chonk.
All the pedals are connected to the input jack socket? And all to the clean amp?
Yup all pedals are straight into the high input jack. The Marshall is stock.
2 eq/boost combo does it for me
Me too bro. Greatest boost ever is eq imho
eQ, MT2 & RAT.
MT2 kicked major ass here too. I'm a bigger fan of hard clip pedals than overdrives tbh.

Beautiful..u should try it with a chug pedal
I've heard the chug pedals are cool. Ola brings it.
Sd 1 and GE 7
SD1 is underrated for sure. Paired with Marshall is best.
@@aheadofmetal I want to try with Engl Fireball.
