How to Prepare for a Zombie Apocalypse

- I did this video in the spring of 2010. (Oldie but a goody).
It was designed and done for FUN and ENTERTAINMENT - not to be taken seriously.
I have a variety of better, newer equipment.
Suppressors are not affixable to my lever action.
Suppressors are also not easily available to Canadians, they're highly illegal for the general public and are for good reason.
My Tactical-vest was bought at a military surplus store located in London, Ontario Canada, called Forest City Surplus. Many people have asked, here's the answer.
I love my bow, if you don't like it, I don't care, I'm not forcing you to use it.
This is a very short video (too short for my liking) that I used for my creative portion of an interview to be an orientation soph at UWO. I HAVE LEFT OUT MANY IMPORTANT THINGS, but HAD TO due to time constraints of the interview, unfortunately. Perhaps in the future I will make a full length video with much more important information not covered in this one. Just a reminder that this was strictly for fun, and entertainment and not to be taken seriously.
I hope you enjoy the video, and please refrain from posting bullshit comments that I'll either have refute or delete due to sheer incompetency or idiocy. Thanks for watching and please vote up/subscribe or message me a private question/concern.
Jay
P.S:
For those who had requested, and/or those that are interested in seeing my bow in action:
• Checkmate Crusader Lon...
I'll hopefully be making a better video soon, outside of course, with shot groupings and technique etc...
Enjoy.
Jay
Wow an actual detailed confident video. Someone with a plan for himself. Good job man
Smartest video on RUclips about this. I'm Joining him! I do what he says!!!
Hell, his setup is good for Nuclear explosion / Invasion!
Another mind reader
True same here I want to be solo in a zombie apocalypse and have a sniper with a silencer
lol he says be zombie bate you:YES SIR OK SIR
Finally someone who might not die
Nope. Unless he ditches the bow and sticks with the 30-30.
safarigoo bow and sticks eh?
I meant, ditch the bow. Stick with the 30-30. Bows would be a terrible weapon and crossbows even worse. If you've ever had experience with a bow, you would know how easily it is to wreck and arrow. You can't just easily pull them out of things and more often than not if shooting an animal, the arrows break in half
safarigoo While As he said humans have the advantage of Intelligence. Zombies often gain the advantage of enhanced durability and numbness of pain (thats assuming they can ignore pain due to them being "dead") and often again the advantage of sheer numbers. Assuming most of ur guns in which you prefer 30-30 aren't fitted with a silencer or suppresser, your advantage of technology undoubtingly cancelled with the sheer numbers as bullets are only so efficient to combat a certain number of targets (Accurately and effectively) and also requiring the need to be Conservative. Ditching the Bow IS an option, but it removes you of a Long Range option, unless ur going to go melee on each target (in which you risk being a victim of the zombie's advantage being that it only melees), in which you are likely to be outnumbered. Hence that is why Jay prefers to use arrows and bows, even though you state that its not sustainable, its still an effective option that has its limitations (Something is better than nothing). i personally agree with alot of what Jay says, and the logic is pretty Sound. Removing your stealth and silent advantage is obviously fatal, as neither can you stay in one exact location for too long. (Many reasons such as potential future breaches, lack of supplies, the population's psychological and mental effects and Etc.)
The logic isn't very sound. Assuming you need to kill a zombie with a head shot, a bow or crossbow is a terrible choice. I've been a bowhunter for 20 years. I've killed many deer with both compound and recurve bow. I also have a lot of experience with crossbows. Hitting a non moving zombie in the head at 20+ yards with a compound bow is hard enough and takes much practice and skill. That same shot with a recurve bow is much much harder, just not practical. Then, you factor in that the zombies will be moving and I can guarantee you that much less than half of your shots will be effective enough to penetrate the brain.....with any archery equipment. Now factor in many moving zombies, and you will drop that bow and run within 5 minutes. Like i said, hitting a brain would be a big enough challenge with archery equipment. Also, you need to understand that penetrating a skull with an arrow and broadhead isn't very easy. Many deer are lost each year because of an arrow not penetrating a shoulder blade. A gun would be loud and attract attention, but even a skilled archer will not be successful trying to brain shoot a moving zombie anything much past 5 or maybe 10 yards.
a tip for you Jay, learn to make a bow, arrows and arrowheads out of materials so that when you run out of carbon fiber and other sorts of arrows that you can't find, you will know how to make replacements :)
I would like a recurve one day, I was inspired to get a the modern longbow from a trusted friend of mine and it's all I had (including the one rifle) when I made this video.
good start start. I'm a big fan of swords, light weight, no noise, unlimited shots.
***** Agreed, they both have their limitations. also ammunition for guns can get heavy, for short low risk runs a sword might be a better way to go so you can carry more stuff.
so you think a crowbar and baseball bat would be better than a sword because a sword requires energy to use and needs space to swing? I don't think your argument is very strong since you prefer other swinging weapons. Also your critical argument against my made up zombie story is childish. it's never going to happen so have some fun with it and stop being a troll.
What ive got;
Combat boots
Recurve bow, with broad head arrow, and fiver glass shaft
3 pocket knifes( 2 multiple perpose tool)
Bullet prof vest
8' knife
Rifle (500 rounds) ( only last resort)
Tinned food
First aid kit
And I've got a tree house deep in the forest( it's still under construction )
Cool
Nice. I got a nerf swat vest ( I got it when i was 7, I'm now 13.) a deer hunting 300 magnum rifle, my own AR-15, a para - ordanance M1911, weapons goggles, multiple preparations, plans, etc., and my own team named Z.A.S.T. ( Zombie Apocalypse Survival Team) and plenty of ammo stocked. My extras are a compound bow, axe and a tomahawk. I recommend you get some goggles, though.
GUNS FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!=)
Thanks for the positive feedback, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I have a hunting bow and a metal baseball bat
Gunners will be jellous of you when they will have no ammo
TurtleMan0811 Kian L. I have crossbow, bow, metal baseball bat, a knife, and a machete.
classy
SomeGuy Who Is Lame aluminium baseball bats are useless they are gonna break if you hut something hard get a cold steel broklyncrusher or basher cheap and in destrucible
Son, you look like Agent Zero rocking all that stuff. "...that'll be running towards you. Or walking slowly." Priceless!
I would steal from Tony Stark
this is by far the best survival kit video on youtube
People think I'm crazy because I have prepared for a zombie apocalypse, but I reckon it's 100% possible for the brain to be infected by some sort of parasite that makes people Cannabalistic not necessarily dead but they just want human flesh and blood... This being the reason I'm already prepared with my Daryl Dickson type survival instincts and also skill!
I dont think it's gonna be a zombie apocalypse, but i dont think the preppers are crazy either😊
Edvard Barrett Brachel I can appreciate your judgement, although I'm not saying its entirely impossible, I do think there will be one day...
Magicka Fame the fungi in th game The last of us is kinda real. It only affects some insects tho. Look it up and imagine the damage it would cause if it adapted to infect humans. Just search zombie ants.
T Wayland Uhhhh... Wutt?
Lol im using my cellphone to comment. There is a fungus that can take control of an ants mind and makes it infect the rest of its colony. Just look it up because its awesome
amazing vid man, me an my friends always are bored and end up talking about zombie apocalypse and really love the idea after i watched this vid i told my mates your idea and things you would take and they were all like awwww yeah!
Weight is a killer, ounces lead to pounds, pounds lead to pain and pain leads to death.
Sherry M so true
I know you posted this 3 years ago but your the 1st person I've seen that thought of a bow/arrow and axe along w/everything else, I thought it was just me. I wrote this early so I hope you chose a re-curve bow (Mongolian style that's what I call it)
Nicely done SIR!
Scientists say that a zombie apocalypse is possible due to Brain parasites XD I'm so excited if one does come!
....
oh yeah :)
-.- shut the fk up. I'm sick of these trolls like you.
If it does happen do you think it would be possible to knock a zombie out?
Tis TheC-A-T
TL;DR Yes, it has a semi functioning brain which is still necessary for it to move
Well yeah, assuming it will ever happen(even though I'm 99.99 percent sure it wont ever happen), the only reason zombies are chasing you is because they have a functional brain. I doubt a zombie would remember to keep its mouth closed and chin tucked when you went in to drop it like a rock. If its only thought is food then i doubt it would anticipate a punch (or crowbar) to its dome. Of course that wont ever happen in our lifetime so there is no need to worry . I'd be more afraid of our government not having enough money to operate in the next 50 years, or a realy scary virus like influenza. The way i see it, humans are better at killing each other than mother nature currently is. If im buying guns and gear, its because im afraid some dick that didnt get what he wanted in life is going to try and point a gun at me and my family to get what he wants because i've noticed a lot more careless people around.
My gear
1.mask
2.hood
3.bow
4.arm shield with spikes
5.leg mounted arrow holster
6.grenades made out of mentos and small cola bottles
7.radio
8.bandolier
What I love about yours more than others is that you carry light i mean your not gonna outrun zombie land/28 days later zombies packed to the brim with armour anything you could fit on you
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I would do everything in my power to avoid that situation, however, if I found myself in that scenario, I would attempt to flee before trying to fight and eliminate them all.
you know im not a gun safety nut, but watching you holding that 30-30 with your hand over that barrel from 5:56 while the word 'intelligence' is scrolling up had me gigglin
3:53 ...but also perfect for the undead horde that will be running towards you... or walking slowly.
xD that cracked me up
One thing I can truly appreciate about this video is his minimalist when it comes to weapons. You don't need to be carrying around 5 knives, 4 guns, a bow, and a pair of brass knuckles to be effective in combat. Yes, redundancy is all fair and good; but when you are walking around with an armory on your back you run the risk of making more noise and becoming overweight from the arsenal.
My opinion: keep your weapon count to a minimum. In a situation like a zombie apocalypse, you only need short and medium range weapons. If you feel like you need something longer out, you are going out of your way to waste resources just to kill something.
Practice with the few weapons you will use. Learn the upkeep of said weapons. Keep the calibers common and the blades quality and they might just last for you.
Yes, Max Brooks brings it up in his Zombie Survival Guide. Hypothetically, this knowledge motivates me to move north [if there were to be a zombie apocalypse] where it's uber cold, where an uncovered and uncoated walking corpse would simply freeze in it's tracks or become so slow that they would be only a small threat.
The biggest thing that most people don't think of is that equipment is barely half the battle. It's the intelligence, intuition, perception, innovation, and quick wits (to name a few) that can mean survival or death; even with no fancy equipment, if you are a natural survivor you'll find ways to fight through.
I remember that was the exact same gear and outfit wore during the last Zombie. The Zombies never knew what hit em.
Awesome, bro. If i had to review your gear, i would say that you almost nailed a perfect score. The little things i would change are: 1) Your combat knife, exchange it for a machete. 2) Modify that axe, so you can attach something and get more range 3) The rifle is only good for dealing with people, i wouldn't change it but another option would a Glock handgun with 33+ round magazines. it's effective up to 50 yards. 4) you need to protect your self from nature too, meds, emergency blanket bag.
A few personal recommendations would be to carry a knife with both edges sharpened, having any restrictions on the direction you can slice is probably not a good idea overall. Also a convex plastic lens for starting fires should be in your survival kit somewhere because you'll eventually run out of gas in the lighter and will surely have problems when trying to get your fire going. I'm enjoying that most people are sharing their ideas, this is a subject that requires much research after all : )
Hey man i like your selections I'm looking around youtube for people who are prepping. I have a tip for you if you want a knife you might want to make sure it has a pommel so your knife can get stuck in a zombies head if you are using it as a weapon. I learned this quickly i have tons of supplies it buckets along with a BOB and around 4 handguns 2 shotguns 2 semi auto rifles a bolt action remington and homemade silencers that work using steel wool this is cuz my dads a cop.Good job I'm subbing.
when are you going to put up another video because i really enjoyed this one and can't wait for some more worth while advise on equipment and in the head stuff.
looking forward to it
Good video, I like the idea of the tactical vest as opposed to the cumbersome backpack. Personally I like a low top, light weight shoe without a knobby tread.
I love this, you are smart and you use unique weapons and you have awesome gear.
I think you are very smart I never thought about using guns as a last resort but you made it clear that gunshots would attract crowds. I think its important to stay focused and alert while staying calm and silent. I am shore ammunition will eventually be very hard to find after so many clips.
in a situation like a zombie apocalypse, NEVER give free handouts, you never know if someone will take your stuff & possibly lure zombies to your positon. the currency would most likely be food or ammo.
Preparation for a zombie outbreak is useful because even if it doesn't happen you are still prepared to handle just about anything thank you for the video and preparation tips
Wow nice video. My question for you is what vehicle would you use and make a video about it.
Wouldn't make much of a difference if you had a suppressor anyways. All they do is throw the sound to the point of impact instead of the guns barrel. You can still hear it from miles around. They also only bring the sound just under what OSHA deems damaging to your hearing.
still one of my favorite zombie prep videos
ha ha i like how when you say to be smart you tap your head with a knife.
but really this is a good video, i prepare for the zombie apocalypse myself and it is good to see that some one els has the same techniques as me SMART,SILENT,FAST hope to see more videos
Son, you look like Agent Zero rocking all that stuff.
It's all hypothetical and for entertainment, my friend.
Thanks for not wasting my time and have real good info
In a survival sense, there are many different pros and cons to having a group with you. The most outstanding reason I would love to have others with me is to keep my sanity in check; having someone to talk to, having others to help gathering wood, fuel, food, supplies, etc, the list goes on. Just being an experienced camper in the wilderness is enough to educate someone enough that being out by yourself can be absolutely undesirable. The con to having others is worrying about them.
You have a plan, you seem prepared, I'm guessing you served as well. Thank you for all of the above. I myself don't have as much as you do as far as my gear but I have personal protection, a plan, and common sense. Thanks a bunch.
I like this guy. He actually doesn't take the 'beastmode' shotgun idea as the best idea
I only suggested and used the military uniform because the material is more durable and resilient in comparison to a standard t-shirt or sweater. If i could have an urban grey, I'd prefer that, and to further advocate for the camouflage, it can benefit you when or if you're trying to lay low in a woodland scenario.
Good job! Your video is simple and to the point. Will you do other videos showing some techniques?
I'm glad you enjoyed it. If I run out of ammo, I'll find more. I'll be trying my best to recollect my arrows that I shoot, and if I do run out, similarly to ammunition, I'll find more.
That's awesome man, I unfortunately have not been hunting with it yet, but I do know for sure it's a great deer gun. Thanks for the unique comment.
Finally! I dont know how many people I've seen say they'd carry a huge shotgun or a AK-47 for their guns and then they start pulling out the pistols too. It's like they have no concept of silence or "hey, ammo runs out eventually".
Best One Gun is the shotgun. No marksmanship needed, very powerful, variable ammo for different needs.
Also as a tip Never take an arrow out of a dead zombie you shot, first reason it might not be Dead, second reason it could infect you, third reason Don't go by them there may be a horde nearby
If there's ever a zombie apocalypse, I'd want to be with you. I'm good at survival, I can find edible plants almost anywhere and set traps and I know a lot more things, but I can't fight at all.
It wasn't to be taken literally.. it's just for fun and entertainment, as stated at the beginning of the film, but thank you for your meticulousness attention to detail - it shows me that you actually watched and listened to the video.
Well... i really like your entire kit but 2 things...:
1. If you stab with the little miniture pocket knife, it wont kill the zombie so it can bite your hand/arm from there
2.Nobody can use a Bow-shot weapon unless you are Daryl Dixon for The Walking Dead, you have to go back and get your arrow back
But again, Nice kit
only thing i would recomend is a quiver cover, that keeps your arrows tight, and not rustling around for zombs to hear, 4:50 you jerk a lil and they rustle loud, so something to wrap around the top of the quiver to hold the arrowns in place, ready to pull out would be good
I think there's going to be a zombie apocolapse, I got a military jacket, and I makes me look like I'm ready
for a zombie apocalypse.
+Darth blocky I have a carrot! The most lethal weapon after the potato
I agree. I own a Ruger 10/22 now, and it would probably be the best weapon to carry because of it's weight, size, ease of use/handling, cleaning/maintaining, availability of ammunition, and weight/effectiveness ratio of the standard .22 LR round.
The back-quiver is actually a dangerous equipment! In a case of running to a spot or climbing to a safe place, a lot of arrows can just fall from the quiver.
The belt-quiver is better for this kind of situation. And its more easier to catch the arrow And maybe more comfortable...
shooting a gun is like ringing a dinner bell for the undead
Honestly, one of the only videos I really like.
Entrees, sides, and snacks vary per case and selections may be; Entree: Cheese Tortellini, Chicken Breast, Beef Stew, BBQ Beef, Chili w/ Beef; Side dishes: Fried Rice, Cornbread Stuffing, Cherry Berry Cobbler, Refried Beans, Mexican Corn, or different Fruits; Snacks: Crackers, Pound Cake, or Dry Roasted Peanuts.
your silent style is quite normal but remember when a body falls it makes noise so i could alert maybe a few or a lot of zombies to your location. A good tactic to have is to make a team of survivers (your friends) and then they have your back so no zombie will be munching on yours.
Cool video man. I was just wondering if you would be willing to make a vid explaining how to make the smoke grenade? Or do is there a vid on here you would recommend?
It depends on what you're planning on using it for. A fire fighter's axe is great if you want to get through a door, bust a pad lock or two, breach a vehicle, chop down larger sized trees; however, if you're just needing something to split logs, and as a one handed or two handed weapon that you have to carry with you all the time, I'd prefer something smaller and lighter to carry. If you carry a fire fighters axe, you're limiting yourself to many other things that you'll need to have.
well, one decade (since this video) past without zombies, but I prepared for future
While I understand this video is old but one egregious thing he is missing is armor. I view armor like that of an eraser on a pencil in that armor allows you to make a fatal mistake and live to learn from it.
Many argue that armor slows you down, well that's what conditioning is for. Train in your armor or with a weight vest. The first year of the apocalypse will be "The Year of the Gun" after that ammo will be incredibly scarce and most combat will be at close range gladiator style.
Are you thinking short or long term? Regarding short term within the inner city and assuming zombies can't climb, rooftops can be better than the ground level street, but mind the increase in chance of being cornered or potentially not having an easy escape. Long term would be to place yourself as far as possible from the infected. The general thing to keep in mind is to aim to increase the distance between you and the infected to decrease the possibility of close contact.
For armour motorcycle leathers work wonders. You can get your camo slightly larger to wear over leathers if you are concerned about other survivors spotting you. Great upload though one of the better in the Z survival categories.
I took an old Danier leather glove, cut it and sewed it myself, I didn't buy it. I'm glad you think it's cool.
If there is a zombie apocalypse I'm sticking with hi.
If I could find one I would most certainly use it to it's full extent - it would be an extremely valuable tool during the time of an apocalypse.
Well, technically, a grenade is classified as a small bomb. It doesn't go 'boom' or anything, the fuse is popped when you pull the pin, and it smolders a thick white smoke while it burns internally.
I bought the smoke grenade at a paintball field, the knee pads in the video are just blacked out skateboarding pads, but I own blackhawk! brand tactical knee and elbow pads I got online, read the video info for the vest, and the broad heads were bought at an archery store. Regarding sharpeners, having a small honing stone will help keep your edge as long as you know how to use it properly, and they're small enough to put anywhere. If you don't want to carry, you'd have to find something else.
If you listened/watched the video, I explain that the smoke grenade could be useful for a few reasons such as a distraction, assisting an escape from a specific area, but you could further find use for it such as a signal beacon in a rescue situation etc... The possibilities are endless if you have an imagination.. The smoke grenade would, very obviously, not be used to 'kill' a zombie...
If guns are meant as a last resort, then little to no noise is most prudent. However, my attachment of choice would have to be the silencer,to surpress the noise.
K ASIDE FROM LOOKING LIKE A MORTAL COMBAT CHARACTER......THERE ARE PLENTY OTHER REASONS WHY YOU ARE A BAD ASS!!!! LOVE IT!!!!
A sleeping bag and a flashlight is a good choice
I just realized most zombies won't even be able to hear (well at least good enough to notice) because their ear drums will develop holes because of the rotting
Thank you for being competent and understanding that this is a VERY limited video, as I stated in the information. I would and could make one that is numerous parts, with hours and hours of demonstrations and scenario work, but that's not what this video was for, and I to be honest, I don't possess the free time to do so.
Nice Video!
Also, sug. for weaponry.
If Possible equip EVERY weapon you have with a silencer. quiets the gun blast down Alot !
one of the best survival vids i have ever seen
In a zombie apocalypse I would use a bow, but i would use a cross bow because personally i find it easier to "load" and aim with, plus it's smaller for mobility, and probably easier to find.
Hi, I love your singing and this video is boss but I have a question so I am as of now using a genisus bow and lightweight carbon arrows (not amazingly durable but very accurate) what tip would you recommend thanks. Also a little bit of advice decaying is a very heated process at its lowest it would be 140 degrees if you moved to a cold climate that would slow down the process like locking something in a freezer a hot place would be the place to go it would turn a zombie into mush in 24 hours.
I'm going to hopefully start making the 2nd one soon.
Definitiley agree, any one who says other wise has obviously never gone hiking or hunting with there plate carrier fully loaded with plates, knee pads, and elbow pads. Very uncomfortable, a huge hassle, and its constantly on your mind. A good light weight vest, some tough pants, tough shirt, gore tex water proof hiking/combat boots, and some extra pouches or a light weight back pack is all you need. (Besides the gear, guns, and ammo to be put in side)

its good to more Canadian prepping for the worst case scenario. be safe outhere. Greetings from Quebec.
It's not just for zombie protection...it's also a protection against bandits in a Zombie Plague , and you made good choices ,if I were I would do the same thing ,
Man your video is cool... i really love it. but i have question. how will carry your bow? on your back??
I appreciate the tips, and you did a fine job with the video, are zombies really a problem in your neck of the woods? Additionally, how is a bow going to stop an already dead creature?
The best investment you can make is a Sturm Ruger 10/22 take-down "survivalist" rifle
easy to assemble, lightweight and extremely accurate you can use it for small game hunting and in emergencies as a combat weapon
if you only own one gun that is probably the most generally useful one you can have
Good video, i like how u are u going more tactical with it but still keeping tradition aspects like the bow. just a few issues i saw with it all was try and get a better axe, they cost ALOT more but a wetterlings is a good handmade axe that is "bullet proof" and will keep an edge for a long time. also try and get a different source of fire, u trip one time and that lighter could get cracked or shatter completely. other than that good video.
To survive: small maneuverable back pack, shorts or pants cargo or not, water purifier, water canteen, mechanic gloves, knee pads, knife, cross bow, learn parkour, MRE, shirt or long sleeve or a jacket depending on weather and done you are all good. 😃
Compounds are great, and pack a huge punch. When it comes to firing off more than one in rapid succession, the mechanism is just not as fast as a more traditional one. I would prefer a recurve style, since the one I own is fairly large, but I do not as of right now.
one of the best Zombie Apocalypse Prepare movie iv seen!
u dont need comfort for a zombie apocalypse all u need is survival
