    Such a gorgeous boy!! He's just so lovely in character and temperament. Such a brilliant coat...perhaps consider naming him Helios..."of the sun", or maybe Adonis. Meaning: the most handsome!

    His energy when your walking him out to the grass is so cute. Tentative but sooo curious. I could feel the big steps he was taking to see what was around the corner.

    You know I always believe things happen for a reason. The journey you went thru and the drama, to get this horse had a purpose. We are always learning and growing, and some times that is hard. But now you have your beautiful horse and I'm sure after all you went thru you will appreciate him even more. Can't wait to see the two of you grow together.

    OMG Matt ! What a beauty. His temperament is super chilled even the clippers didn’t faze him. He did so well in the horse walker, many would have freaked but he quickly got the hang of it. He is such a beauty, one very happy Daddy. ❤

    In Arizona in the US, we really have to watch the horses around sand. So many of them get sand colic and sometimes it’s fatal. Please be careful. I cringed when he started eating the sand. I never put hay on the ground if there sand there. But of course I understand you know more about what you’re doing than I do -❤️👍 He is so beautiful I love watching you and your horses -you’re just simply awesome- thank you for these videos!

      Here in california also, I was at a stable that was built near a riverbed and the sand was basically in the water. The more knowledgeable gave their horses psillium or linseed to help clear out the sand. Basically the sand can build up and form a "stone"

    • @aliciaohara8794

      I was thinking the same thing 😲 Sand here is a big no no.

    • @pattycoe7435
      @pattycoe7435 2 года назад +3

      I was cringing too about the sand, but all of Florida was the sea bed at one time and no matter how lush your field is the soil has a bit of sand.

    • @mbmochinski
      @mbmochinski 2 года назад +2

      My daughter lives in CA, USA and worked for an equine vet. She educated me on sand colic. In California Sand colic as you've all said is a huge problem and surgery to treat the colic it is very expensive and I assume risky. I too cringed when the stallion took a bite of the sand, but with the horse's main diet being pasture it must be safer to consume a bit.

    I have to say your conversation about the sense of responsibility and the stress/emotions after a horse purchase, so hit home for me! The care and intention you carry with every interaction you have with your new horse and all of our fur babies is so beautiful to see 💕 Congrats on Etro, he seems like the perfect addition to the fam!

    What a great new life! Be careful with the grass. In Sweden when we get horses used to glass we start with 15 min first week, 30 min second week etc. Takes 4-8 weeks. ❤️👍

    • @FunkMeUpScotty
      @FunkMeUpScotty 2 года назад +9

      Wanted to point that out too. To start with one hour is really too long and can already lead to colic. Nevertheless I see that you really care about your horses and you do everything to make them feel good.

    I have always admired your dedication and commonsense approach to how you care for your horses. This video is a great testament to that. Nothing beats the shine of a healthy deep red coat on a horse! I really like how he handled the hot walker. You could tell he was thinking the problem out without over reacting to it. You got yourself a good one and I wish you both a long happy life together!

He is very calm, very gentle, he shows no fear when you use the scissors, the clippers or the walker which he didn't know. I would have loved to "hear" what he was thinking when you took him into the field. A great life ahead for him and a wonderful adventure for you. I hope you both become great and happy partners. Thanks for this update, Matt 🥰👌💙

    You are right about shorter grass having more sugar. When it is quite short, especially from overgrazing, it is stressed and attempting to send all the energy (sugar) it has into growing enough to put on seed heads. So generally longer is better, but of course if it has seed heads or under seasonal changes, extreme weather conditions, it can also be high in sugar. Typically night time hours have the least amount of sugars, so many people will graze their horses at night and then off during the day. In the USA I feel we are significantly behind the knowledge curve on this sort of thing, but the UK has done an excellent job on researching.

    I volunteer at a horse rescue and we have 4 pastures that are primarily dirt and we take them out hay. My dream is to take each of these horses that have had a rough time and are now cared for and turn them out into a lush green field. I am thoroughly enjoying the saga of your dream horse!! It warms this granny's heart to see you so happy and within just days, that beautiful baby will love you back! Horses are such intelligent animals and they make you earn their love & trust but I know you can pull that off! Have you picked a name for him yet? I heard you toss around a few but didn't detect a definite choice. Make it something ethereal. Something that brings to mind the beauty & soul of his golden bay color! The 2 suggestions by viewers in the comments are both good. I don't know the difference between Greek & Roman Gods but wasn't the head of one of them called "Zeus". Short, easy to recall and for him to recognize. Can't wait to see how it turns out!! Have a safe trip to Africa!! And do watch out for him on the sand! I live on a desert in So.Cal and I know the horse crowd here has to be on guard constantly so their horse doesn't get "sanded!! They feed in hay nets in the stalls!
