Although I agree completely that people put the Islamic religion in a box, I would argue there’s a reason for that. It is way more common for someone to be radical if they believe and read the Quran. The Bible doesn’t advocate for violence. (Don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of POS Christians) There’s the sword verses and peace verses in the Quran. “But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.” That doesn’t sound very peaceful to me.
Now in no way am I justifying bigotry toward Muslims, but I am trying to show why people are more cautious around Muslims.. my take is bc they’re significantly more violent than Christians, considering their holy book condones it, and in some cases advocates for it. Look at the poor victims in the UK. Getting beheaded in the street for showing an image of Muhammad. And the real question is, is that justified by the Quran? Sadly, it seems that’s the case.

So honestly as embarrassed as I am to say I’m pretty uninformed in that topic, Trisha was right in that sense. Not a lot of people know about it or were even taught about it in school.

In trisha’s defense I graduated in 2020, took honors history for most of my four years of high school, and was never educated on the Israel-Palestine conflict, even though my school was extremely diverse and very liberal
Makes sense, a lot of what happens today as a result of the conflict is barely reported in Western media. It’s horrendous and basically an apartheid that no one is stopping. There are some things in our religious book that's up for discussion but there are things that are not, so sometimes calling yourself a muslim can be offensive to other muslims, so when a terrorist blows up a mosque or church or wathever in the name of islam he's actually offending us, so does muslims who wear tattoos or drink alcohol or eat non-halal products. That doesn't mean we have to kill them but it simply means we have to keep them away from hurting other people's feelings and even dragging them down to your beliefs, that's why we call it muslim by name because he doesn't represent the whole muslim community and not even the smallest bit. I'm happy you asked this question and i hope you ask more :)

My husband is muslim (from yemen) his family is very old school and they were going to get him a wife from his village.
But he didn't want that
Once he told his family that he found someone (who was Jewish) they did NOT like it.

I don't know, Ethan, I feel like Trisha has a point. It isn't something most people are taught. I only vaguely knew that Palestine was "in Israel", until I was fourteen, and we had a Palestinian exchange student who could explain it to me in a similar nutshell. I went on to learn a hell of a lot more about it over the years, but I mostly had to teach myself for my undergrad political science thesis. It's incredibly sensitive, and complicated. It's the furthest thing from black and white. You have to dive through at the very least 150 years of history, if not 6000 to just barely grasp it. And it really isn't taught in schools. I'd talk with professors about it, and they'd duck into the hallway, make sure the coast was clear, and lock their doors before continuing the conversation. It's very taboo, at least in the states.
