@@Carolinabliss50 Just TS warned, we'll be on the West side so no worries on storm surge. Might get some hurricane wind if it jogs West some but we should be good. Plenty of rain too so be aware if you have anything valuable in a low-lying spot.

It is storming here in NW GA its flooding and downpours! We are 330 miles NE from the Gulf. Stay safe everyone!!
Yeah, I'm in Canton, and it's bucketing down. This isn't Helene yet, "just" that front that's swooping down from further west and will eventually form the west edge of the "chute" that will guide Helene northward. It'll be early Friday morning before Helene's winds hit us. But from now until then, lots of rain and thunderstorms. Glad I'm on a hill!
The ground will be soaked prior to the hurricane, so prepare for falling trees later and more flooding than normal I assume.

Been a tough couple of years for the Big Bend. Michael in 2018, Idalia last year, and now Helene.

I just saw a news report of people in Cedar Key, boarding up window and placing sandbags. The reporter said they're expected to get a storm surge of 15 feet! Those people shouldn't even be there!

I went to my friend's house in Cape Coral at 9am to watch Charley hit Tampa in 2004, we were in her closet at noon after it changed course and only one weather caster stepped out and said so. The storm was headed straight at us until it bounced off of Sanibel and shifted to it's landing spot in Punta Gorda/Charlotte Harbor.
Things can change really fast, y'all. And this is already a MONSTER size storm like you said.

Helene headed for bathtub warm waters, what better conditions could she want. If there is any good news, it is that the USAF C-130s won’t have far to fly for their missions, although they may have to launch and recover away from home.Thank you Dr. Cowan for your updates and projections, there is none better.

I’m happy to finally get to watch the ONLY person that is worth watching when it comes to a video for a hurricane! There’s a lot of nonsense. Lots of hype. Lots of ppl just wanting clicks & views & attention. Then there’s a SELECT few that make videos with the purpose of explaining these storms upside down left right diagonal sideways, every way. I appreciate these videos. The inner weather nerd in me appreciates them even more!
The 50kt+ radius of maximum wind has contracted slightly from 90 nautical miles northeast and southeast of the center to more like 40-60 miles however, this storm looks like it's going to be very large. It definitely has that very ominous look to it and I wouldn't be shocked to see the big bend region see upwards of 15-20 feet of surge somewhere in there. Definitely don't take this storm lightly.

The tropical storm winds obviously are reaching our East coast of Florida, what are the chances of hurricane wind field growing also? And how far inland could they reach easterly?
I really like the "just the facts" approach of this channel. Also it's just about to complete its eyewall, I was just looking at it on radar and it almost has it closed.

here in pensacola there is no tropical weather alerts.
There may be if it tracks more to the NNW above the Yucatan for longer than originally predicted. One forecaster is already predicted a shift more to the west side of the track cone. Just a day or two ago they were leaning towards a track more around the middle to low Big Bend.

Doing great recon for us TT! I'm checking noaa as well, their live updates aren't bad either. In fact some of the local weather reporters are doing a great job keeping peoples heads up and warned. I think some of them are getting more practice as we go along even though it's a mutable science, very. Heck some of them stay hunkered in their studios!

Wish retail would watch this channel. Its SO annoying that they are going to "wait till the morning" to tell us if we work. Dude trop force winds will be in my area already at that point let alone if it strengthens and the wind field is bigger by then -_-. I walk an hour to get to work but they don't care. gotta be open for the 0 customers that will come in. So sick of companies not taking storms seriously or giving us time to be off work to prep our house for the storm. No time to board up my house i get off at 10pm I cant be nailing up windows that late...
