The difference between statistical and clinical significance is a key consideration when deciding whether the outcome of an intervention warrants the investment it requires.
The Importance of Clinical Significance uses the example of building bike paths as a way to increase physical activity. A hypothetical research study shows a positive result. However, the confidence interval demonstrates quite a range of increase in exercise.
While the increase is still statistically significant, a judgement must be made as to whether the low end of the range is clinically significant. Will a small increase in physical activity each week make enough of a difference to a person’s health? Is it worth the investment required to build bike paths?
Your decision will be based on the research evidence as well as a range of other considerations related to the specifics of the situation - essentially a value judgement of clinical significance.

It is important to remember that the real answer is most likely to be somewhere near the sample estimate in the middle of the confidence interval. It is much less likely to be near the ends of the interval. Here the real effect is much more likely to be close to 30 mins than it is to be close to 10 mins. (And it is just as likely to be close to 50 mins as it is to be as low as 10 mins.)
