Happy birthday Crystal! We hooked a 225lb swordy at around 3am while shark fishing. It pulled the boat 6 miles by sun rise. It showed it's self around 7am. It was still chasing flying fish to eat. Left the pole mainly in the bow rod holder getting a crank or 2 here and there. 60lb mono, steel 5' leader with 24lbs of drag. It ate a squid on a mustad 4/0 hook. We landed it just before 9am. Long night, and the boat's first swordy. Good going! Brings back good memories, thanks guys.,

I had a memory from the mid 80’s. My Dad caught a 33 lb red 40 miles off fernandina beach. Before the rules and we loaded the boat. What a great memory with a great man, my Dad.
I know nothing about swordfish except what I see on the tube. And it looked like NO breeze at all ☹️

I don't know too much about those but it appears to me like it's either a lamprey or a cookie cutter shark
Odds are best that it was a cookie cutter. With that said though, it’s surprising uniform and smooth for a cookie cutter shark. I just can’t think of anything else it could be. Also for those thinking lamprey. Lamprey aren’t fast enough to feed on a swordfish. They are also primarily scavengers. It would be strange for it to be from a lamprey. It’s also a bit too deep for a lamprey. But hey. I love the ocean because anything is possible. My money is on a cookie cutter shark though!
