Fun Fact: The original intro was animated entirely in CGI, so they didn't need to redraw anything. They just rerendered it in a wider aspect ratio. All the models and animations are exactly the same. The biggest difference is the remixed audio near the end.
And people why FG never or ever will win an Emmy. They were never the top show. Also Simpsons started way before and it shows how much better Matt is than Seth he had two top shows running for three years. Another thing it's like saying FG is better than AD they're two different shows, similar in ways, but different.
RegalBumper12 Yeah, the Simpsons is great, but Futurama was pure gold. I don’t think there was one bad episode throughout the entire series, but I can’t say the same for the Simpsons.
There have been slight variations of the theme over the years, including one where it was beatboxed. In fact, I don't think it's ever been exactly the same since the beginning. Something is always different, even if it's a tiny difference.
I wonder who storyboarded this. It pretty much gets to the point in describing what the setting is while at the same time keeps it simple. I particularly love the bits of 30's/40's/50's. cartoons near the end. I remember them showing Felix the Cat once.
Interesting to note how they changed it much less drastically than they did with The Simpsons. The main differences are the change in aspect ratio, slightly different intro and brighter lights in HD (I'm guessing it's HD seeing as the change is one year after the Simpsons transitioned to HD) while in the Simpsons there's an entire few frames that only exist in the first season (the shot of Lisa riding her bike before she arrives at the house) and the HD version has Marge run into Homer causing him to break the door rather than have him realise, scream and run through the door before he can get run over among many other pre-HD - HD changes
I think the most obvious and ignore difference is that the standard screen size has changed. Look at the 2010 vid, it has been compressed to fit side by side with the original. No longer is the viewing screen squared off, yay for wide screen TVs
One of the main differences is that the tune is slightly different towards the end (00:26), and the left one is in full screen, the right one is in widescreen
Thank for for that wonderful HighRes comparison of the two intros for those of us whose Windows 98 desktop can only handle 240p in the couple of hours we're allotted use of the computer at my convent in Utah.
I have watched it since it first started and even I did not realise it was that old. I guess it makes sense, because he went 1000 years into the future and ended up in the year 3000, but still, it makes me feel so old.
Differences, there's a few at the opening, 1: the letters in "futurama" stop rotating faster in 2010 version, and the colors are brighter. The only other difference I can see, thats probably not affected by the aspect ratio change, is at 0:24 on the big screen, there are two different "videos" being shown, and one is in color (2010) while the other is black n white (99-02).
In the upper left, there's a yellowish sign with a spiral that's supposed to say "Mass Hypnosis Hour". In the original opening, the words are already visible when the camera pans here. While the camera is here, the words blink OFF momentarily, then back ON, then the camera moves away. In the new opening, the effect is backwards: The words are OFF first, then blinks ON momentarily, then back OFF, then the camera moves away. I get the feeling someone in the animation department goofed up here...
I did a side-by-side, frame-by-frame comparison between the opening from Space Pilot 3000 and Rebirth, and there are definitely a couple of differences. The only one I saw that doesn't require freeze frame is in the shot where Amy and Hermes are in the transport tube. See next several comments...
Thethreebrothers its an awesome cartoon, its like johnny quest, but with a deeper universe. its the best adult cartoon comedy show ever. you can find the first season on netflix
anyone know which episode has the special re-remix with samples of voice clips from the show. Don't quote me but this is all i remember, it might be nonsense "here we go yall, zoidburg zoidburg zuh zuh zuh zuh zoidburg" then he would babble gibberish. please help lmao
It looks to me like an animation mistake. These differences, along with a couple that I didn't mention in other shots, can be seen even in the DVD movies, so that tells me the new opening animation came from the movies. Someone please confirm my findings and have fun freeze framing!
@omnimon99 The music has and the width of the screen. Plus it's in HD now. And the newer intro cuts out the PE ship flying around, it just shows all the shots of NNY, making it shorter. So yeah, it has changed.
@davemichaelanderson You can find more details on the "Infosphere" page. But other than what's been said, the one little change I can think of is that the man with a hook for a hand (in one of the tubes) has now been given a normal hand.
@wackyboy2001 you could be referring to several things. the difference in the saying underneath of Futurama, the diference in the TV screen, or perhaps something very minor, such as the "TV 14" sign or comedy central logo on the 2010 version
The "Mass Hypnosis Hour" ad is the easiest way to tell which opening you're watching. 2nd diff (freeze frame): The person after Hermes is different. In the original, it's a lady with orange hair. In the new one, it's a girl with blonde hair and short pigtails. 3rd diff (freeze frame): After the orange hair lady/pigtail girl is a white haired guy, then Kiff, then a sunglasses guy. In the new opening, Kiff is missing! Actually, Kiff appears for just a couple of frames on the right side...
@gamegod97 Actually if you look closely, some of the people in the tubes are different, but only a few of them. Can't tell who they are though since this video is low res.
Its exactly the same intro but different quality. Nowt has changed apart from the quality so what's the point of putting the one from fox intro and the one from comedy central intro to see if they've changed?? Anyone get my point??
If I had a dollar for every pixel, I'd have 75 cents
accurate
Ouch
LMAO
why am i still laughing at this
Aka 3 quarters lol
Fun Fact: The original intro was animated entirely in CGI, so they didn't need to redraw anything. They just rerendered it in a wider aspect ratio. All the models and animations are exactly the same. The biggest difference is the remixed audio near the end.
kmp
Ye
That butchers it a bit.
you can't compare shit with this quality
You can, the ending video on the giant tv is different, '99-02 is b and w, while 2010 is in colour
Il Papa Vitielo the picture on that TV changes each episode
Hard to see in 240p
Don't see much difference
Futurama > The Simpsons, seasons 10-26.
Futurama > Simpsons 1-9 too
Don't get me wrong though I love Simpsons 1-10 but I like Futurama more
And people why FG never or ever will win an Emmy. They were never the top show. Also Simpsons started way before and it shows how much better Matt is than Seth he had two top shows running for three years. RegalBumper12 Yeah, the Simpsons is great, but Futurama was pure gold. I don’t think there was one bad episode throughout the entire series, but I can’t say the same for the Simpsons.
Simpsons seasons 4 to 12 approx. were amazing. Nothing can beat that. I liked futurama too though.
There have been slight variations of the theme over the years, including one where it was beatboxed. In fact, I don't think it's ever been exactly the same since the beginning. Something is always different, even if it's a tiny difference.
240p, we meet again

I hope you still alive both of you
also one time they showed the futurama pilot from 1999

There the same, but the 2010 ones glowy colours at the beginning look a tad different, thats about it.
Aspect ratios. Shading. Colour matching. The engine on the ship glows brighter and the crash has slightly better animation.
@@beepthemeep12 and slighly different angle

I wish they kept the old drumbeat😢
Damn I miss this show. I'm glad there bringing it back

Damn I miss this show. I'm glad there bringing it back

Damn i miss this show. im glad it's back.
Damn I missed this show, I’m glad it’s back on Hulu.
if anyone can't tell the difference, its mostly the music. you gotta listen to the song individually.
zeromelody2 the drums sound different
Its true
Also the animation of the ship entering the letter is just a tad bit faster/less frames usedn
Honestly, both songs combined sound like an even doper theme song
And it’s now outdated Yay we got Futurama back!
Same intro but adding hulu in it made it funnier! Can't believe its been 10 years
this intro will always be legendary
I think the most obvious and ignore difference is that the standard screen size has changed. Look at the 2010 vid, it has been compressed to fit side by side with the original. No longer is the viewing screen squared off, yay for wide screen TVs
Who's excited for Simpsorama later this year?
Harm Aouke Haaijer What's funny about?
The crossover is real you know?
I'm excited for family guy and South Park not Futerama and Simpsons I just like the theme song of Futerama
***** LOOL I LOVE FUTERAMA
Darkor 2008 ok I don't care
whats futerama
The 2010 version has a bit more intense beat to it

The theme also has extra instruments.
I miss futurama!😢
"Thank you for using 'Stop n' Drop', America's favorite suicide booth, since 2008."
Thank for for that wonderful HighRes comparison of the two intros for those of us whose Windows 98 desktop can only handle 240p in the couple of hours we're allotted use of the computer at my convent in Utah.
The Planet Express Ship's tail glows more vividly in the newer intro.
each one is more identical than the last.
i love Futurama
I have watched it since it first started and even I did not realise it was that old. I guess it makes sense, because he went 1000 years into the future and ended up in the year 3000, but still, it makes me feel so old.
My ringtone.

I’ll always love the song
And after ALL those years, Leela STILL crashes into the big monitor! She STILL can't fly with just one eye!
I think that when you combine the old song and the updated one, it sounds extra cool.
Lol I know

This is the type of stuff that's to good to be changed :D
Awesome!! Thanks for this!
Mainly, the prismatic lights at the start are more greenish in the newer one.
Yeah I thought about it recently while rewatching the series, the 16:9 intro had to include all the stuff the 4:3 intro couldn't show in the margins
And here we are 9 years later
There is one thing different that I don't think you guys noticed. Look at the tubes, the people inside are different. O.O
Wow... I didn't feel old until now... thanks kid!
So many memories

Joseph Gillespie too bad, he's missing out! Guess it's not everyone's cup of tea though.
Would be better if it wasn't potato quality haha
I did not realise how old futurama was as old as my brother omg
Its going to be back!!!
in the newer one the ship crashes but doesn't get shocked, in the old one it dose
Leela was more mutated in “Leela and the Genestalk”.
@kztar621, the full version is better than the short version, I completely agree with you. :D
lella still has not learnt how to not crash into the billboard
+ZozMex she has no depth perception
I feel bad for whoever has to fix the screen...
Probably too busy on her eyePhone.

something about that particular year seems shockingly accurate.
OH MY GOD. They're exactly the same!
Surely this is the find of the century.
I noticed a couple animations that were changed, 2010 ones have a more alive feel to it than it was back in 1999-2002 version

Thank u
i agree, there`s smtg about the tubes that`s differenet and some miliseconds longer
i did'nt realize how old futurama is
@bakumonmaster998 yes there is look at the tv screen before the ship crashes into it Its a diffrent thing on it
The fire on the back of the ship is brighter in the newer version in some parts of you look closely.
@brandeezy108 Oh I see. And the sound is the "de-de-dededededehdeh"? Like a rickety sound real fast?
Seriously under rated show
YOU CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE LIKE THIS, CAUSE ONE IN NORMAL AND THE OTHER ONE IS WIDESCREEN !!!
@thetan63 "that's the second time you've gone through a billboard this week!" What great continuity futurama has...
I remember watching this on Adult Swim with my dad... when I was 5, lol
1999-2002 was that the music had a light tone. while 2010 and
the present it has a deeper tone
@TheDellanator dear god you just made me feel old
@leftheadphone well it's not fixing something that's not broken. it's making something good better
@Bluedino549 In one of the movie openings, she flies into the screen and gets sucked in, and then flies back out
@gamegod97 Actually if you look closely, some of the people in the tubes are different, but only a few of them. Can't tell who they are though since this video is low res.
Nothings really changed besides added cell shading and it flows a TINY bit better. Still one of my favorite cartoons, next to simpsons and doug.

I ADORE the music in Futurama.

This show will be coming back sometime in 2023!
Guess it is true what they say, you can’t change perfection.
We're back baby!
