I have lots of thoughts about weighing. Here are some hot takes in part 1 of the weighing lecture:
Everything in debate is weighing, including defense, evidence, and frontlines.
Case can (and should) be weighed against defense, and vice versa
Weighing mechanisms have gotten silly. It's all magnitude and probability
Probability weighing is real and useful
Strategic weighing uses different layers of charity, which is a key concept that is under-explored in Policy and PF debate
Meta-weighing has gotten silly
Impact wars at camp teach bad weighing. Weighing is between contextualized arguments that necessarily compare between worlds, not between abstract concepts of impacts
Part 2 (coming soon!) will cover the win by one model, two-tiered weighing, my retrosynthetic approach to weighing, framework and framing, and non-utilitarian ethical frameworks with analysis of examples.
holy shit my king dropped
Finally
