Facts! Great info girl! I train my Malinois outside of the dog park to train avoiding distractions of other dogs. ☺️

This video is amazing!! Thank you so much for making this. I made the mistake of taking my dog to a dog park when he was younger, he got attacked and now he’s reactive to other dogs. I wish I would’ve seen this sooner! The idea to train around a dog park is perfect, I’m going to do that!

Haven't even watched the video yet, and already agree. I am all for socialization but these owners don't focus on anything, then I'd have to be the bad guy protecting my dog? I say nay!

I agree on people's behavior in dog parks.
They are trapped in their "cell" phones and too often oblivious to what's going on around them.
I come across it all too often while walking my dog through open parks.
As for avoiding stupidity, it's an on-going task in life 😅

I bring my mal to the dog park all the time to focus on training in high stimulus areas. And it has 100% been beneficial. My mals focus on me and the task at hand is out of this world due to this sort of training. I think there is some VERY good things that can come out of training at a dog park

I am also guilty of taking my Doberman to the dog park from laziness.
But I let him run along the empty small dog side. He has races with the big dogs on the other side of the divider.
I noticed that since I rescued a female Plott hound, my Doberman isn't depressed anymore.
I live alone and can't provide a pack for him.
I have trouble saying no, if someone wants to love on my big Doberman. I do it from time to time - but I am trying to win folks over to a breed they seem to innately fear.

I agree with all that you have said except for the public socialization arena. I have raised Malinios since 1976, if you take your dog to a dogpark you better know what you are doing, Maligator Mom is spot on. At a dog park, most Malinios will be viewed by other dogs as the Mike Tyson type of dog from the moment that you walk in even when they are not. You will come across the submissive fear aggression types that will bite out of fear and then you will have the others that will try to throw in a cheap bite, growl, or body slam. Most mals are smart enough to know this and will not start a fight but once they are bitten by another it's game on. (Yes this will happen) The Maligator will own the park and will run from one end to the other and will meet every dog and every human within seconds. Maligator mom is 100% correct this only teaches bad habits. Working outside of the dog park is an excellent idea. Mental stimulation will wear your Mal out faster than physical activities. In public, I promote petting however people should always ask first. I do personal protection bite work. All bite work for me is on command, it's do a task for a reward, a game. I do not want a mean dog or a dog that has aggression towards people so I promote petting only if people ask. I always protect the dog's mouth while children pet. I usually have the dog in a down position while very small children pet. Your maligator can be a weapon and hurt someone, treat it as such, I never let other dogs interact with my mals while working. Good advice from Maligator Mom,

Dog parks make me anxious, because I know most ppl who frequent them w/ their pup have never worked on real training/ or control . As for doggy daycare I’ll never take mine, too many irresponsible owners . I’ve seen/ heard of too many “ accidents “! My Mal is very socialized w/ certain dogs but but she’s not a human & doesn’t NEED friends or do I think she’ll like every dog . Just like I /we don’t like ALL ppl .

100% agree with you as far as the other dogs temperament, training or immunization as well. I've watched Mike Ritland talk about dogs meeting other dogs and he said the same thing you said about not all dogs like other dogs. We've got a 19 month old GSD and he's social with us and our immediate family as well as our neighbors that he sees everyday.

Hi! I have a question - I agree that no one else needs to say hello to my dog but I’m unsure how to manage that in the home. How do you get your dog to coexist when someone “outside of the pack” comes into the home as a visitor?

    • @esaflaka9155

U cann teach your dog to place somewhere for some time, and that helps with impulse control. Needs repetition and training with stay/ place/ sit or watever when someone comes to the house. And the other person if they decide to not work with you, then thats another human problem

This is a great topic and something I think many dog owners don’t ever consider. It seems that people transfer their own need for socialization to their dogs, like little kids at a playground. I agree 100%, most people have very poor control over their dogs and the potential for mishaps and even injury to your dog…or theirs is quite possible, not to mention the possibility of acquiring undesirable habits. The truth is, all your dog really needs is you…unless your an a-hole ;-)

When it comes to petting other ppls dog, its mainly for human satisfaction honestly. Petting animals gives a piece of joy. But it doesn’t make it right. Some dogs lovee human interaction, some dogs don’t care so to atleast the dogs that don’t care, just tolerate/ don’t like, then like.. leave them alone lol

Love your channel! Thanks for sharing... i have my original pack 4 JRT's who are on the older side 8-13 yrs old and none of them want to interact with my male 11 mo BM...especially my male jrt who up to this time is still showing aggression to my Mal...so i dont ever let them out at the same time to avoid an attack (plus the whole pack being triggered to gang up on my mal)...do i accept this set-up,is this ok?..the fact or possibility that they will never get along?I am thankful that my mal has a good temperament and ignores the growling, showing of teeth and charging of my jrt...I am hoping he will stay this way and not pick up this bad behavior from my jrt. Hoping to hear your opinion!

@1arprw this was a continuation on my comment which was a question regarding children. It was on a previous comment. The question was how did you socialize with kids when her dogs were puppies regarding bringing other kids into home like her kids friends. I asked that because I will have grandkids from my adult kids at different stages and since she has a working breed I was curious.

This was a great video are used to go to dog parks when I had my dogs and I stopped that when they were young because I saw the same thing you were talking about and I also never did doggy day camp I always if we had a boredom which was not often they would be in a separate room. The question I had is since you have children did you socialize your puppies when they were young to children so that as they got older if your kids brought little friends to play with it would be safe or do you just put your dogs away when kids come I asked that because I had two dogs that were working dogs one light children and the other one never did we never socialize them around children because we didn’t have small children when we got the second one.

Just a minute into the video but I would never take my dog to a dog park...too many people don't know how to control their dogs...then there's the issue of disease. I want to be the most interesting thing to my Mal pup...not some pack of dogs. Walking a dog off leash in a residential neighborhood can also be a bad idea if you can't control your dog. I've had two incidents where the other dog runs across the street to see my dog.

My female maligator is very dog friendly. My male is NOT. I handle them accordingly. Why would anyone spend 1600 dollars on a maligator and through them into gladiator dog parks??? There are much stronger dogs in this world. I didn't buy my gator to be the strongest dog vs dog. I bought them to protect me and my family from people that i, not my dog determine are bad. I certainly wouldnt want my dog meeting a strangers corso, pit bull, etc. Now my daughter has a corso and they are besties. But i know that dog, hes a sweetheart as they have been playing since pups. I love corso breed like gators, rotties, and sheps. Great video!

I hate how other owners have no clue what their dog is doing and are on their phones... then they get mad at me for not letting the dogs play...... I am on high alert around other dogs and if I sense by even first sniff from other dog...if it is aggressive we leave, i recall my dogs..... i say round it up and give them a treat..... the good thing about my park is it is not just an open field area.... it is a mile long trail... so the dogs are never by other dogs very long and i do not follow the pack we go the other way...... anyway... that`s what i do and it works.
