Beautiful fl6 MK1 these fl6s had a fantastic production life 1986-2003 or there abouts they were the longest surviving model of Volvo that remained practically unchanged

I owned a Yellow Goddess,ex Northern Ireland as used by the army during the fireman's strike. Such a buzz to drive,all be it very slow. Great vid Stavros. Stay safe and keep on trucking!

By the time an FL6 Fire engine reached the scene of a fire it would have gone out it'self.

Some fire station's here in the UK had Saxon bodied FL6's with Allison automatics.

Give me one of these over one of the new volvo FL fire engines any day, we had an R reg emergency one fl6-14 for years and it was a brilliant machine, waaay faster than the new ones
They were also the fastest lorry on the road bar the ERF probably

Great video, sir.. I watch all your videos. The old Volvo and Scannia engines sound very nice. They sound exactly like the Ashok Leyland trucks sold here in India. I wonder if Leyland have any connection with Volvo / Scannia?

Slow !! Imagine when it’s full of gear and 1000 ish litres of water .... I’ve driven them for 20 years the new ones are a massive improvement and auto 👍

The 6 liter engine down on power easily as it need to rev high to hit the power band.
Normally you need to get into over 1500rpm to get only 585Nm torque and nearly 2300rpm to get 180hp. As you know it's really hurt.
I don't know why such combination is suitable for fire engine. It even not enough for a bus on such weight.
That's the problem with small engines in heavy vehicles. No power and torque. Later FL6 fire engines were better with the 220bhp engine and automatic gearbox as it kept the revs high to keep in it's power band.
Does a fire engine ned to be fast or comfortable? It can'tlegally exceed speed limits and won't be travelling far.
Would probably be nice if firemen weren't beat up already by the time they arrive at the scene. But about the first bit: Where are firetrucks limited by regular speed limits? They're not in the US, they're not in Sweden where I'm from, and they're not in Ireland where I assume this was filmed.
Fire engines in service can exceed any posted speed limit when responding to emergency calls. There are also several other exemptions when responding to emergencies. Urban brigades might have several appliances in close proximity where as rural brigades can regularly have fire engines travelling 15-20 miles for call outs.
It's only done 50.000kms it's not even properly run in.
ahh, i thought that "goodbye" means it's gonna be destroyed.
What the funk is wrong with that engine , but if it hardly can to any accelerating the idea of a other rear end would not be the solution to this problem.
