SUB are the best only for people that have not enough spending to really utilize the multipliers. The SUB can and will still add to the multipliers, but you still should get cards that will address your multipliers regardless and/or in addition to the SUB. There are only so many SUB you can get and still spend enough to qualify for them. Unless we are talking about $100 here and there
I’ll work on a SUB around tax season and around insurance renewal season, or some other time when I have big purchases coming (new furniture, big work travel, big family vacation). Otherwise I prefer to just use my multipliers, because I personally spend less when not working on a SUB.
@@jakemercure yeah. Respect ur honesty. I imagine im 5-10% over. Knowing working on sub I’ll be a smidge more liberal about a hotel or food while traveling. But I constantly work to keep myself in check.
I hear you Jake, I'm in the middle ground since I have a high monthly spend, so I can hit these SUB's with regular spend while still spamming those multi's. But for the more frugal crowd SUB farming is definitely more lucrative
Being that time is more valuable than money, I’ve concluded that using time to increase stream(s) of income is better than using time to chasing the best points or cash back. It takes time to move auto-payments onto different cards and to figure out which card to use for an addition 1 or 2 points. Multipliers don’t move the needle enough for the sacrifice of time. It is best to commit to an ecosystem and setup that optimizes your lifestyle-including your business(es)-indefinitely until you move up into a new lifestyle bracket. Now you can expand your card setup and chase subs because your lifestyle demands it, due to your focus on increasing your income. Note, a single banks ecosystem is more powerful than spreading your setup across too many independent cards. So I chose a bank that would accommodate the lifestyle I can grow into and optimize the lifestyle I ultimately want to reach.
I'm 25 and you spend way more than me. I couldn't met the minimum spend on all those high spend card cards (platinum, chase Sapphire reserve, etc) without manufacturing spending like using plastiq to pay my student loans with a credit card, overpaying my taxes, or funding bank accounts. I accidently opened the wrong Ink card (unlimited) so now I have the Unlimited and Cash. I'm just going to do the above to meet the sign-up bonus of both.
I get your point, but for most people it shouldn't be necessary to be going after a SUB at all times. Get a SUB, take a trip and spend the points, then go after another SUB. I feel like a lot of people go after multiple SUBs, stockpile hundreds of thousands of points, then worry about spending them. Also personally, I don't like applying for cards just for a SUB and spend on it for 3-6 months, then never use it again and cancel after 1 year. I wonder if others agree but want I only like to go after cards that are sustainable in my wallet
If anyone opens the vx and then thinks about a savour one… just open the other venture for another 75k points…. Your gonna get the same 3 hard pulls too 🤷🏾♂️
Bro SUBs are the wave, I’m also addicted 😂 similarly tho my wife and I don’t spend a ton so we typically need the full period or to pay insurance on higher spend requirements. Currently on another ink and haven’t not spent towards a SUB since beginning of 2023
Unless u spend between 10k per month across all total credit card accounts, @ 10k (80% of people don't) mulpliers matter little......you have to have extremely high spend to take advantage of multiplers.....very few are "killing" it with a 2% multiplier.
5:19 I ask myself this all the time when I consider getting a travel card, yeah the SUBs are nice but I know I can't sustain it with multipliers, so that leaves me at a fork in the road
- increase complexity, open more cards, chase SUBs, and sustain the travel lifestyle - increase simplicity, foregoing travel, use the multipliers for discounts on everyday things 10:00 - 10:15 Yeah man same, I feel like 10 cards is my upper limit so that is what I am aiming for
Here's another take. Why can't you do both? I'm in the middle of hitting two signup bonuses simultaneously now while also maximizing the Freedom Flex 5% groceries and gas offer along with the rotating categories. Can be done with some strategic gift card and manufactured spending if you're comfortable with doing that. You also could be maximizing the points categories and then throw all of your non spend categories onto SUBs. Which is why I don't foresee myself getting another catch all card anytime soon.
I feel you dude, I want to slow down on opening new cards since I just finished the Ink Preferred and Business Platinum in the past 3 months, but I'm already planning either the Aaviator Red or Sapphire Preferred within the next month or two
This!! You hit the nail on the head. I cannot believe how much people are obsessing over Robinhood's 3x back on everything for a $50 annual fee and no sign up bonus, when the year 1 breakeven there compared to just the Citi Double Cash is $25,000 in spend
Solid vid man! I fall somewhere in the middle of this great debate and understand both sides. For domestic economy I use my USBAR multipliers and redeem through RTR…. Since domestic economy flights are more affordable and the 1.5 boost helps even with me being a low spender. For my SUB cards I bank those strictly for international business class travel only… since I don’t have the luxury of getting extra points from referrals. I also prefer not to have hella cards… but I’m not mad at folks playing the game that way… hell you have to play them before they play you 🤣😉
Proof that the Bilt card is heavily chilled by everyone when it contradicts maximum return on spend. A SUB will always be better than rent for no fee. The math checks out. Yet, here we are with most youtubers pushing Venture X and Bilt for the past 2 years.
I'm applying for new cards before I even finish my previous welcome offer lol. I try to reach the minimum spend requirement the day the new card arrives in the mail
oh not the coffee again! I know your cleaning up the desk but I am just wondering is there a 2-card strategy that would work? I just want to keep things simple. I have the Chase Freedom Flex and working toward applying for the CSP. I think that would be enough. And the 5% rotating categories do help with the multipliers also booking through Chase Travel. It's enough for me. The points boost with the CSP in Chase Travel is good also. I just don't want to keep applying for credit cards. Like you said have to watch the hard inquiries.
@@jakemercure Oh dude. Ignore myh DM then. My first card is about to age to 2 years in a few days, but I'm just gonna say f it and apply since this thing is a Business Card.
I’m a light, nah prob moderate churner. churning is a marathon not a sprint. And should be based on logical play to max. I’m focusing on managing 5/24 long as possible. Why run thru getting basic cards with not great subs and basic to “good” everyday multipliers? the 💰 is in subs. I’ll worry about everyday use when my game ends in 2025…unless significance life changes occur (move etc). Then game on! 😂
Do you use personal spending on a business card to achieve the welcome bonus? I know it’s frowned upon and I don’t want to get on America Express bad side.
Bro finally hit the existential crisis portion of the credit card game
I swear I feel physical pain anytime I spend that isn’t towards a SUB
I feel that! Certainly if it’s more than say $50. 😖.

Agree, but eventually you can reset and get another sub, like the 48 month rule with chase. But thats a long time

Btw Many if not most overspend/splurge chasing cc subs. The question is how much U are..5% 50%?💡Reward travel/perks is a professionally designed game.
I would pay $1000 to see this metric. I think it would be around 15% for me personally

People need to be more honest about this. Big banks aren’t in the business of giving you free money.
You can get addicted to sign up bonuses. As soon as I complete one I'm searching for the next one. True story. Great vid Jake💥
So addicted. I just applied for the ink and got 7-10 biz days. We will see how this battle ends!
personally I like pb&j’s but I guess I can focus on subs too
Subway eat fresh kinda moment

Between P2 and me, we get a SUB every month, alternating between business and personal cards.

Bank account funding is the best.

I think the 40 K Amtrak deal comes back pretty regularly at least once a year. Also, usually with the base 20 K offer the annual fee is waived
Next year I’m definitely getting it. But not worth using one of my 2 remaining 5 slots for.
