  • Back filling in progress at Pioneer Coal in Stellarton NS. You can dig or push as much material around as you want but eventually you gotta haul it somewhere. TheCAT and Komatsu Rock Trucks step up to the plate to carry the stripped rock layer from mine bottom to top.

    How wrong I was. I was way wrong 6 yrs ago on this. Its correct, you're home every day. And you do make the same or even better money. Even if you made less it would be much better than going back to living like a "Nomad", in a truck 24/7.

    This is being done with 100 ton trucks, small by today's standards at many mines. Imagine doing this same job with 15 or 20 ton Euclids like they did when I was a kid.

    The problem is, in Vegas area anyway, you basiclly have to be in the Teamsters. I got on their list & was on it for a number of years. I even got my mine certification. And never got called on. You have to be a relative or even worse an Affirmative Action type or you'll probaby never get on, except by some freak of accident.

      it's hard to read the model number, but it seems to be the 777D, which is 90 ton

    • @KUPHSER
      @KUPHSER 2 года назад

      These are cat 777 trucks, I don’t like them. ideally 100 tonne but you can overload to about 115 and they’ll still carry. Sometimes if overloaded you have to “throw” the tub when you tip off.. but don’t let the bosses see you do that lol

  • @k5rno

    Was the Dozer driver asleep or on his phone😂 severe lack of edge protection and tipping clear like that is way too risky in the event of machine failure or driver error, that's how ppl in mining and quarries get killed. Like the video though 👍

    • @DigzBig
      @DigzBig  5 лет назад +1

      The operation is all in one big area. They dig down to the coal seam and then remove it, process the coal and truck it to the coal burning power plant 15 minutes away. The top layer you see being dumped is over burden being used to fill the extra space that the coal seam would have occupied in another area of the pit.

    I never got it ~ what is the sense of loading and moving overburden from one place to another? What is this mine organization going to do with all this back fill slag waste. Why isn't this overburden crushed and used for something useful? Seems like a huge waste of energy and money.

    • @DigzBig
      @DigzBig  10 лет назад +5

      Most of the overburden is just piled as the coal company has an agreement to fill in the pits when done providing the town with prime land for development. Prior it was undermined with old shafts and sink holes.

    • @rockonjar
      @rockonjar 9 лет назад +5

      alot of overburden from coal mines is acid generating rock... can't use it for nothing other than filling in the mine when the're done.
