The Sandwedge is for Lunch time use only
mmmmm open faced sandwedge
Open face club sandwedge. Mmmmmmm
Nice !
Don't forget the footwedge! I've had playing partners that used it to great effect.
WHY has it taken YT 6 months to recommend this channel to me? Instant subbed. Love the surface comedy, but underneath all that I feel you are giving some of the BEST golfing advice for amateurs I have seen on YT. Kudos to you for being so original and having very relatable coaching style. Lots of love from the UK. Stay confidential brother
nice playa - mainly its due to prejudice because i am from africa
@@GolfSidekick Well you're welcome in my home any time Playa! In fact, I want a life size cardboard cut out of you in my living room for daily inspiration!
Howzit China, love you're take on golf. Enjoying playing sensible golf. You're correct, it's actually fun hitting fairways and not scrambling through trees to find that new prov1😂 - leaving 'super hero' shots for now 😉
Thanks Matt have been watching your videos for a while now and enjoy your no messing approach to the game - keep up the good work Mick - Ireland !
Great educational video, best I have seen on RUclips for club selection and purpose. 👏🍾 cheers.
Beginner? Who needs 14 clubs? Driver. One fairway club ( probably 7 wood) 7+9 irons PW, Putter. You're good to go.
Why 7 wood over a hybrid? Longer club means harder to hit sweet spot? No one is 100% consistent? Genuine question. Right now I’m trying to build my bag. And the clubs I don’t understand yet are the ones to gap the distance between driver and 5 iron. I was thinking maybe a 3 hybrid.
@@0hleg I did say "probably". For a beginner it's basically any club you're comfortable hitting a long(ish) way. Could be anything from a 5 iron up tbh. As a beginner, if you're more than c150 yards from the green, all you should really be doing is aiming to get the ball further up and still in play. If you're more confident with a 3 hybrid than any other club in that range, then that's definitely the club for you.
@@andrewcarter7503 honestly it’s not about hitting what I’m comfortable with. I practice a lot and don’t doubt my abilities to get good with any club. But I don’t want to choose clubs that are meaninglessly more difficult than another. I don’t see why a fairway wood is better than a hybrid. And just wanted you to try and explain why you use that over a hybrid.
Awesome video for beginners and great for those with some years under their belts! I got the Takomo 101s and am very happy with them. As you suggest, one can upgrade incrementally over time and I will do that. Cheers!
Totally accurate info. Takes are a dish best served cold.
I wish I would have seen something like this 3 years ago. It would have saved me a lot of time and money.
Love your stuff.
We all go through it playa. Kind of part of the fun.
Fantastic, educational video!
best channel🎉 all useful stuff, right on point
Great video to explain things my more experienced golf buddies can’t put into words
I've switched to 2-5 hybrids and carry no fairway woods. That seems to work best for me, being that I'm not very consistent and don't play very often. I'm more consistent with hybrids than anything else.
Same here, I carry Ping G410 3 19degree, 4 22 degree and 5 26 degree
The explanation about putters was really helpful
Thank you , for helping us beginners
Just found your channel, lekker videos, thanks.
I’m pretty steep on my swings so I’ve actually always gotten along with higher lofted fairways. So I play a 4 wood at 17 and a 5 wood at 20. I’m still a beginner but I’ve been playing for 4 years now
Thanks Matt, now I know what these weird sticks in my bag are !
Im gona pick up a 7W and ditch the 4HYB. Almost the same loft and will use it more. Also switching from a 60 to a 58 wedge. For context im a 8 handycap, my driver can be a little hit or miss but within 150yds is where i capitalize. Havent had a 3 putt in over a year. Course management is KEY.
i play all the time but still enjoyed this
Thanks for all the awesome videos. Quick question, I am playing as a 20+ handicap and my average score is 90 to 95. I have hit 86 before, but only once seems I have only been playing for just over a year. Would you suggest the 101, 101t, 201 or 301cb?
I carry 15 clubs. I mostly hit hybrids but need a medium iron to use for the low punch shot under tree limbs. Hybrid shafts are too long for punch shots and the ball pops off the face and wants to climb in a hurry. My old choked down 6 iron is perfect for the low, running punch.
That's what I'm envious about tour pros. They can get the ball in the air AND hit it long. They can hit their long irons in the air and they can hit their high lofted wedges/irons a long way.
They have so much ball control! It is insane
I want a 7 wood,do u know if Takomo ships to Spain? thanks in advance playa!
My go-to golf advisor. Great videos and tips! As a 26 hcp beginner, my bag consists of a driver, 4 hybrid, 5-P irons, SW, AP and a putter. So far it has had me covered, but I struggle with the wedges. Any straight forward tips on how to avoid topping and duffing?
It’s from being too steep. Go for a wedge lesson. You’ll benefit huge
I'm trying to get addicted to golf using hand-me-down 20-year-old blades LOL, I've only played 4 rounds of golf so far and hit around 115. Can't wait to upgrade to T200s or something like that. I also have a 60 degree in the bag, the struggle is real.
What about shaft length? I know each club gets a little shorter and require you to align the ball farther back in your stance. Why wouldn't you just get same shaft length on all the clubs from about 5/6 iron down PW, so the swing can stay consistent?
Hybrids are marvellous.

If super game improvement irons give you immediate help, can they also hinder your learning progress (by being too forgiving on non-optimal shots and delaying development of the feel you need to start achieving draws / fades etc. on demand)? Or is that not a valid concern?
Kind of depends on how serious you want to play golf. If you just want to casually play it without having to train too much, a super game improvement iron will do the trick.
If you wish to more seriously tackle golf, the iron will start hindering so you better switch to a hollow body design or take the leap and use a blade if you're ambitious and you enjoy training consistency
You can’t go wrong with a 5 wood (adjusted down to 4 wood loft) and a 7 wood.
The throwing of the clubs...😂
Where's your driving iron? Miss seeing you hit that 2i with full confidentiality
Only 11 clubs for me. Driver, 5 wood or 4 hybrid, 5 and 6 hybrids, 7i - pw, gw, sw and putter. I never feel the need for any more.
A Damascus steel putter is wild bro😂😂😂
Ive always found putters and hybrids are the last to make into a thumbnail, let alone a bag. So i attach them to my missiles and lauch them. Who needs a putter when its a driver slamdunked into the cup from 280 off the middle fairway. Anytime everytime 100% of the time.
Regarding putters, they are like precision rifles. You want to hold them very delicate like a bird in your hands. If you have a muscle twitch it doesn't have as much affect on the put if you have a loose grip on the club. If you can put between your heart beats then good for you. :)
Make a slow back stroke adding energy to the club, and let the club fall by gravity. Follow through with your shoulders without adding force. I have an Anser style putter with a blue Lamkin pistol grip and I hold it delicate and loose with a standard interlock grip but with my back hand index finger straight down the grip as a force sensor. It works well for me. I am a 19 hcp so what do I know. ;)
Did you make this video for your communications final ? I hope you pass.
So anyway, getting blades to break 120. It isnt golf if you arent blinded by the glimmer from the butter knife.
You need to make a visit to Mauercio Deleon he likes to touch squishy things or slime with no manhood whatsoever!!!
14 clubs is not enough. If you break one over your knee after every bad shot you aren't going to complete the full 18 holes.
Stiffness very much depends on how hot sh....
So what I gathered from this is driver every hole, if you don’t hit par 5s in 2 you’re a pu$$y, and you don’t need to practice putting if you hit it close. Excellent video sir, thank you!
I carry my sandwedge to help me eat my sandwich at lunchtime.
My driver helps me drive to and from the golfcorse.
You forgot John Dalys 0 iron 😡 easiest club to Hit of the fairway
Came here for the sexy babe… 10/10 did not disappoint!
Great videos Mattie, sage advice from your channel for reducing poofies and bagging birdies.
All you need is a driver I thought?
I would use 3-4 drivers and a putter. Driver lifts 7° 9° 12° and a mini driver 13.5°
@@GolfSidekick nah, putting is for squares. You should be good enough to use just a driver from t straight in the hole after flying it 350 over water like Mcilroy.
@@GolfSidekick lol, I have loved your last couple of videos 🤣🤣
Putter 4° of loft though. Versatile from the tee too
@@GolfSidekick that’s genius, this is why your a 1 handicap 😂
Fantastic info, sir. However, you would do beginning golfers a better service if you called those so-called "game improvement" clubs what they really are, score improvement. The reason is because they do absolutely nothing to actually improve your game . Sure, they are forgiving and make golf easier for anyone starting out but for those legitimately try improve their game, no. My 2 pesos worth.
Go look up what the manufacturers call them. That’s what a beginner will see when they discover irons. Why Would i then confuse a beginner further by calling them something that doesn’t exist in the golf vernacular? Your 2 pesos are worth nothing.
Why so testy?
Besides, the industry already calls them something that doesn't actually exist. You know people buy those clubs with the expectation that their game will improve and it doesn't. Your video is articulating different types of clubs so you're in the position to demystify it further. That's my point, call them what they are and set the proper expectations. How's that confusing?
Most of us would play better with half that number of clubs.
