- Görlitz / Germany is a town on the Polish border, with Zgorzelec on the Polish side. Görlitz is known for its well-preserved old town with the late-Gothic St. Peter’s church.
On this walk we visit the old town of Görlitz and even cross the Neisse river for a peek in Poland. We finally walk back all the way to the Görlitz train station where we end our walking tour.

The last piece of Silesia on German soil (although now formally Görlitz belongs to Saxony). Former Silesia has disappeared from the map of Europe. Millions were forced by the Soviets to leave their homeland (it was a sort of ethnic cleansing), people from Eastern Europe were relocated here (mainly to Lower Silesia, but not only). The result of the madness of Hitler's war and the post-war ignorance of Allied politicians led to the complete destruction of the language, culture, tradition, and art of this old historical region. It is a pity, because there were many great historical figures born in Silesia, important historical events took place here, but all this is forgotten and irrelevant (unfortunately even in modern Germany). It's good that at least Görlitz reminds the world what Silesia used to be. Now (besides a piece of land around Gorlitz) almost all of former Silesia belongs to Poland, but it is a completely different land. My ancestors lived there for centuries. Now the last members of our family live in Australia. Well, that's life...
So sauber und gesittet wie es in der Stadt zugeht merkt man, dass dort viele aufrechte Deutsche leben. Hoffen wir, dass uns Görlitz in der jetzigen Form noch einige schöne Jahre erhalten bleibt, bis es dann schließlich eines Tages wie jede Stadt im Westen fallen wird☪. Glück auf

The GDR regime of the German Democratic Republic in the early 1950s forced large companies to produce consumer goods for the needs of the population ranging from radios, washboards to furniture. But mostly two-level cars. This idea was born in 1936 from the VEB Waggonbau Görlitz founded by Christoph-Lüders in 1849, which became DWA Waggonbau Görlitz GmbH after reunification. With Bombardier, this company became Canadian in 1998, even if its headquarters were in Berlin by its transport branch, before being bought by Alstom alone at the end of January 2021 following the merger refused by the European Union of Bombardier Transport, Alstom and Siemens.

Ham in‘n Westen gemacht.
Görlitz die Stadt der Kirchen und der Widersprüchen. Görlitz ist eine wunderschöne Stadt mit fantastischer Architektur. Ich habe lange Zeit dort gelebt und bin trotzdem nie wirklich dort angekommen. Das einzige was mich heute noch mitGörlitz verbindet ist meine Familie.
Schade finde ich es, dass die Stadtväter es immer noch nicht auf die Reihe bekommen hat, das Bild der Stadt zu verbessern. Noch immer wird man, wenn man Görlitz aus dem Bahnhof her betritt von den abgefrackten Häusern auf der Berliner Straße empfangen. Ich finde es sehr traurig, dass sich dieser erste Eindruck nach 30 Jahren Wiedervereinigung immer noch nicht verbessert hat. Eigentumsrechte hin und das finden der Eigentümer her. Wer es nicht auf die Reihe bekommt seinen Besitz zu erhalten, sollte finanziell zur Kasse gebeten werden. Es verschandelt das Stadt Bild enorm. Es sind Wohnungen die nicht genutzt werden können und diese Häuser sehen einfach sch... aus.
Ich war im Oktober 22 seit langer Zeit wieder einmal in Görlitz und war geschockt, dass sich immer noch nichts geändert hat.
Das ist neu. Aber überlege einmal 1989 war die Wiedervereinigung und jetzt wird endlich etwas gegen diesen Schandfleck gemacht. Wir schreiben das Jahr 2023. Mein Sohn wohnte dort und jedes Mal habe ich mir dem Kopf geschüttelt, wie eine Stadt soetwas zulassen kann.
Schön das dieser Schandfleck nun endlich beseitigt wird. Es freut mich sehr eine schöne Stadt zu sehen. Görlitz hat es sich verdient.

31:47 (links) schlimm dann plötzlich Hochhäuser in einer so schönen Stadt und dann noch im langweiligen Soviet Stil. Wer sich das wohl eingebildet hat so etwas in eine schöne Stadt zu stellen. Hoffentlich wird das schnell abgerissen. Kommie Architektur.
Die Hochhäuser sind auf dem Polinschen Teil Zgorzelec.
Als ob der West-Baustil der 60er und 70er Jahre so viel besser wäre. Soll man sich mal zum Vergleich Ludwigshafen, Bremerhaven oder Gelsenkirchen angucken!

schöne stadt am welchen ich nur vorbei fahre unterwegs von Deutschland nach Polend oder andersrum und nie zeit hatte zu besuchen , so konnte ich das midestens in digitalen form nacholen
Es wird höchste Zeit, das nachzuholen. Görlitz ist ein Traum. Hoffentlich haben die Görlitzer die Coronazeit gut überstanden und leiden nicht zu sehr unter dieser desaströsen Politik!

It is nice city to stopover walk around Gurlitz have coffee and cake then walk to Polish side have nice lunch ! Gurlitz is the city and Poland Zgorzelec is only the suburb of Gurlitz! Before the war light rail use to unite the two sides of the city! Highly recommend to visit!

FYI, I'm now at 647 recordings (November 2022). Not all of the 130+ videos in the pipeline will be published but most of them. I have uploaded most of them already and may open a membership to let people preview them. We'll see if I make it to 1000. Would be nice for sure.
I'll see whether I can get to South Korea, Japan and then North & South America again to visit enough interesting places. For now only a trip to South East Asia in January is planned. The cities in Cambodia and Vietnam may not be that interesting to the current audience but we'll see. Thanks for watching!
