Dan great opening sequence with the camera hooking up. Its the little things like that, the music, clips of scenery and most of all tidbits of information of not only the truck and the job but of places you stop at or see while traveling. thank you for sharing.
Hi dan, i'm a french trucker in europe and i love yours videos, it's another world to me because in europe the trip are not so long than yours, you have a realy good country to run!in europe we know the mx 13 motor, we have it in daf truck (paccar compagny).his power are 410, 440,460 and 510 hp.yours videos are good!(sorry for my bad englich writen).have a nice trip😉.
By the time you get to the big Apple you'll have got the gears and shifts timed to perfection. Truck looks good Dan and it won't take long and it'll be like an old friend. Have a safe trip.☺☺☺🚛💨👍👍
The station wagon is a Checker, same as they used for taxis back in the 60s and 70s in New York City. A new truck is like everything else, it takes time to learn it and the air bag suspension is a much nicer ride all round. Thanks for the video.
Looking Good Dan. I like the New Truck , sounds tight no rattles ,bound to ride better for sure with the longer wheel base. Motor sound good. Loved the Video be careful have a good night . I did not see either one of the puppies i guess being first trip out in the new girl you thought it was best not to bring either one .. looking for the next video so keep it between the ditches there hand and be looking for you soon ,,,,Happy Trails...
Wow thank you for taking time to reply. As a fan it means allot that you replied. I will continue to support your channel. I'm with you Mile after mile and right there when you load. I like it when you film loading and un loading. A cam on your tach would be nice to watch your shift points on the RPM's. We will help you keep the revs down and bring up the mpg Keep up the good work and I wish only the best for you. Greetings from italia.
Just got time to watch your video great job on super trucker Dan be safe out there and thank you for keeping American rolling from Paris Texas God bless you
maybe someone has already mentioned this, but if youre keepin the 379, you might want to get one of the Carolina Carports or similar to keep it from the damaging UV rays...theyre inexpensive...and...take the 5th wheel off, license as an RV, and let Teresa use it for running into town...
G'day, Dan! For that, you need that low-end power that torque provides. You might be inclined to run a gear down in such circumstances will be surprised at how well the engine pulls down in the lower rpm range 1,000-1,200 rpm. A few hills at less than the 1,100 low-end point of the peak-torque band, and the engine keeps on pullin'. Some engines develop a distinctly unpleasant knocking sound at very low rpm, but not the Paccar. In fact, it runs as smoothly at 1,600 rpm (a gear down) as it did at 1,200 rpm at 55 mph. So there, maybe no longer any reason to run a gear down on roads where speed limits are less than the 'truck was optimized for'. Thank you very much for a terrific video... "Still trying to learn the shift pattern and the best RPM range of tbbe engine!" Enjoy your new ride! Cheers! :-)
Naaaw she aint gonna jump out the and pull like the big kitty thats for sure but once your warranty go's out you can get it pumped up a little so you can get that torque up some so she wont be lugging so much. I mean its hard to compare it to the big kitty but you can still get more outta the parameters of that engine. Maybe a Pittsburgh Power muffler would definitely free up that back pressure on the turbo and let the engine breath because remember you dont have two air breathers anymore. And it will lower the turbo temperature too. Also check out a nice little add on you could install is called "Air Cell". I've got one one my W9 3406e for about $160.00 or so. I got mines from Iowa 80. Real good investment and its aircraft aluminum so it wont wear out. And neither modifications wont void your warranty! Wont hurt to check'em out yanno? Safe travels ✌
It is an impressive look rig. A nice look to it. Each truck has its own personality. It seems this one has plenty of power though for the hills. Impressive all around.
I seen a guy with the DEF tank on the passenger side same as yours, I asked him how he did it and he said that most times the hose will stretch across the cat walk and it would reach, but yours seems to be farther forward...... maybe worth a try.
It's probably nice to get used to the new truck before crappy winter roads. Did you leave the dog home so you can get use to the new truck? When you hit that 13 th gear just let out a hearty " YEEEE HAAAWWWW" 😃
The Red and White Fairlane is a 1957. My dad hand one like that, I was still in Kinder-garden school lol. A nice over-all video STD. We are always wanting to know as much about the truck as you. I would have thought a big engine like that would shift at around 1100 RPM and have good recovery.
Your Vlogs are easy to watch Dan, & I appreciate you leaving us be part of your adventures.. It's enjoyable how experienced you are. This truck is all ready proving to be different than other trucks, but with deisel engines 200 RPM makes a big difference. BTW are you idling at night since it's hot where you are?
Hi Dan I'm glad that you like or are getting used to your new truck i'm still not sure why you're def tank is so much of a problem do they only have def supply on one side of the filling stations I find your videos very interesting more so than a lot of them and thanks for sharing the classic cars which I have one of which I have owned since 1968 the Pontiac firebird convertible well good luck with the gears and I'll catch you later regards Richard
Aww you cut out the wind turbines in between Deming and Hatch. Did you grab some fresh green chili on your way through Hatch? Man you ain't kidding about that hill on I-25 the only good thing is not far from there is my turn off to home!
Look into a product called top coat f11 it a protect for paint plastic class more u put on the better ur truck will look and bugs come off a lot Easier I use it
When you decide to mount the generator, can you swap the fuel and DEF tanks to the other side as well then? My understanding is that they are held on by straps and brackets so in theory isn't it possible? Does that create all kinds of fuel plumbing issues or that would flip easily as well? Are the tanks themselves heavy when empty? Maybe your truck mechanic in town could do that easily for you? How do you like the greeseless 5th wheel? Did you have to adjust its mounts to get it at the proper height for your trailer, or is there a standard height for flatbed trailers and only tankers require special heights and mounts? I keep hearing Peterbilt Steve talk about changing 5th wheel heights if needed depending on the application, so I was curious if you "new " truck needed to be adjusted there as well. Sounds like it is going well so far. How is the smaller sleeper working out?
Dan, I don't remember you stating what the horse power is on your new truck, other then stating it was a Paccar engine. What is the horse power, and how are you adjusting to it versus the old 3406 cat?
First off I love your videos and honest opinions. I must ask did you consider the Volvo before? In Europe they are documented number one on fuel economy. Plus the ishift is very nice. Is you new stock as in injector? No one has tried to turn it up? If it's been played with it might be why the economy is not what you expected. I think you should be getting 6 mpg with out even trying. You have the Paccar motor right? That's a DAF design here. They are not know for great fuel efficiency as Volvo is. Plus before I get bad replies I don't have a Volvo. I have mostly Iveco and MAN. I have friends who have Volvo and I've driven theirs. Volvo is more expensive to purchase new here.
Hi Dan, I see you have your fifth wheel set in the middle of your drive axles. With the air ride front axle your truck should ride great! I wanted to ask you if you ever have trouble with the forklift guys hitting your trailer? This used to drive me crazy.
I prefer to call these type of cars classic cars. Old would just be all rusted. I like the mirrors on your hood. I think they will make driving safer and videos better as well.
Dan is the engine on your new truck just as powerful as the one on your old truck? i don't know much about Paccar engines. i know Cats and Cummins. i prefer cats, but will take a cummins over anything other than a cat.
Just finished the video. I remeber coming thru there all the time with my dad when a rode with him when he drove. I always knew where about to be in texas when I saw the sign for the 72 ounce steak
Hi Dan, I have a question and I hope it's not a dumb one lol...but, because you haul flatbed, do the DOT tend to inspect you more often just because everything is exposed?
how hard is it to get on with mercer? im looking at buying my own truck and trailer and would like to drive for mercer to avoid all the headache of trying to incorporate my business and worry of high cost insurance due to my business being new.
That's a low RPM engine,,Shifts best between 13 & 1600 rpm.. I have that motor in a 2016 Peterbilt 389, used in an end dump application... and the Jake brake is the best ever designed!
If your going to get good MPG. I think your going to have to retrain yourself. 1100 to 1300 RMP's. Shift at 1300 and let the engine work for you. Did you leave the dogs home? I'm glad you like the new truck, this will be a good shake down tripfor it.
that low end torque should help improve that fuel economy. Another great video. thanks!!!!
I suppose you could always turn the Def tank around and run a 4" pipe across the truck to the other side if it gets to be a real problem?
Nice looking Truck brother!

Damn that car hauler sure does a good job packing those old cars in there

Indianajack featured on his last video a Mercer truck that had a condo sleeper. It would be interesting to know how they make money.
The station wagon is a Checker. Also how do you like the engine in the new to you truck compared to the cat 15?
Hatch is where JBG picked up a load of onions a few weeks ago headed to Philly. Right up 25 to 40, then 81 North. Is Callie dog with you this trip?
Nice going Dan , I like this new mirror on the drivers side , no dog this run ? How is the new aircondioning working ?
the manufacture putting the def tank on the right side was a boneheaded move, they should have put it on the left

Nice tractor...
Great to see yo back. Did you get some New Mexico chiles when you were in Hatch ::)))
Nice clip Dan. I'm still trying to figure out what possessed them to put the DEF tank on that side.
Ahhhh its gonna depend on how ya roll but its somewhat faster going that way & it drops u out passed the check point lol
I'm wanting to get my cdl I had my cdl in the army but that was in the 90's

I look forward to seeing your great videos every night. Is 12532 your old tractor number or a different one due to changing tractors?
Dan is the engine on your new truck just as powerful as the one on your old truck? i don't know much about Paccar engines. i know Cats and Cummins. i prefer cats, but will take a cummins over anything other than a cat.

What is the wheelbase of your old AND new truck? I thought I heard you say 250 and 275 but I got the impression you flipped which one was which.
Hi Dan, I have a question and I hope it's not a dumb one lol...but, because you haul flatbed, do the DOT tend to inspect you more often just because everything is exposed?
What happened to the dogs, are you driving solo?
just wondering do truckers still use paper logs
Hey Dan where in new York you going. I enjoyed your videos
Be safe
how hard is it to get on with mercer? im looking at buying my own truck and trailer and would like to drive for mercer to avoid all the headache of trying to incorporate my business and worry of high cost insurance due to my business being new.
Hey Dan, is your truck governed, or open? Thanks, and keep truckin'!
That's a low RPM engine,,Shifts best between 13 & 1600 rpm.. I have that motor in a 2016 Peterbilt 389, used in an end dump application... and the Jake brake is the best ever designed!
Yea mine is a 2017 mx-13 it likes shifting around 1450. Grossing 78000 most of the time I'm still getting 7.3. I have an auto 10 speed to.
If your going to get good MPG. I think your going to have to retrain yourself. 1100 to 1300 RMP's. Shift at 1300 and let the engine work for you. Its not like the older engines. lower R's are where it should pull. and get the best MPG's. That engine should pull down to 1100 good. and that's where your max Torque is on it.
