Mark Russell and Michael/Laura Allred seem like such a dream pairing, this one has been on my radar for a while. Omar's description kind of gives me New Frontier vibes, can't wait to check this out for myself!
Mine just came in the mail this morning and it looks great! I love Mike Allred's art. I'll buy pretty much anything he does. Like everyone else, I wish this was a deluxe size.
@@martinalvarez1264 it's all opinion bro but just felt like story wasn't anything special and superman wasn't written like the way he should be,just felt like the writer didn't know what superman sounds like.
Neat, thanks for the overview ! Been curious about this one ever since it hit the stands; so to speak. And, love, appreciate the Allreds' work on anything they collaborate on.
The only thing I didn’t like was the Batman parts I’m so tired of Batman taking away focus from Superman , I really don’t like that. But all in all really like the book.
Wow! This looks good! I've been an Allred fan for a while (both of 'em!) but I haven't gotten any of their stuff for a long time. I think X-Statix was the last book I bought that they did the art for. I never got the Silver Surfer books. My brother and I always talk about Superman & Batman and how there are many more great Batman stories than Superman stories. I think it's because Superman stories have to be created with a very narrow interpretation. He has to do so many things and so many things he wouldn't do. With Batman, you can create more adult stories and have very different interpretations depending on the writer. Seeing that, like Superman, I'm a Cleveland guy and I'm always looking for a good Superman story; I think this book will fill the hole in my heart for a great supes storyline to fill. Thanks as always for your work and I look forward to more announcements for Marvel Epic Collections!
This is not an Elseworlds but a Crisis tie in, so it’s mainline. That’s my stance anyway. It’s a really good Superman story, the best one I read this year.
I loved this book. Loved the art, and many powerful quotes within the script. After the first issue I liked it but the second and third issues really wowed me
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, even though it was bittersweet. It really makes you think. I actually felt some existential dread as I read it. I loved the inclusion of the Justice League but thought the Batman subplot was a bit unnecessary.
Hey Omar, huge thanks for the video. I have a request to consider though. I know DC doesn’t really send you books, but would it be possible to still review them within the first few days of release? IST had this at 50% off and I held of not seeing a review, but now the release week is over, so it is not on that sale. Something like that happened quite a bit as they tend to put 50+% off in the release week for multiple books
I really disliked how.this book depicts Batman. Everything else is great, but just one major character feeling off to me can throw off the entire reading experience for me.
Art is subjective I know, but it doesn't matter to me how great the story is... I just can't deal with this art. I thought the same thing when I saw the Silver Surfer Omnibus. Sure, it's a very distinctive style. Unmistakable. But, I'm sorry, but I don't like it at all.
Why is this not in Deluxe? Sigh.
Right!
This book makes me want a Mike Allred "Prisoner" series.
Like based on the TV show from the 60s? That would look amazing in the Allred's style.
Wow that would be great!

Its basically DCs answer to Spider-Man Life Story and Fantastic 4 Life story
I genuinely wish DC would print these books in Deluxe HC format. With thickish glossy paper though!! I have like ZERO interest in standard sized ones.

Never forget that DC did the aging-in-real-time thing first with John Byrne's "Superman/Batman: Generations".
Yeah but that has Clark kissing an underage Lana Lang.
favorite read of 2023 so far
This was a terrible book.

I loved this book too.
The Batman story didn't know it was included, maybe it was ment to be a World's Finest book
Good review, brother.
Russell and Allred!? Take my multicolored money!
I was sad when I finished this. I wish it was longer!
Neat, thanks for the overview ! Been curious about this one ever since it hit the stands; so to speak. And, love, appreciate the Allreds' work on anything they collaborate on.
This is such a great read!!
Great job on the overveiw.i loved the book.

I don't pick up a lot of new books, but Allred is an instabuy.
I like those kind of Elseworlds.
Great overview. This has two of my favorite creators, so I’m really looking forward to reading this!
Superman's face looks disappointed on cover illustration.

Looking forward to read this book!! I send you and email Omar! 😊🤜🤛

Looks like a weird mish mash of silver age and Byrne. Guess the Siegel estate issues still prevent them from using Superboy in the flashbacks.

So in a way it's a nice prelude story for Crisis on infinite earths
You should tell us what page count is
i have to stop buying standard hardcovers ... cus then a deluxe version comes out... too much $
I keep saying DC needs to end standard sized HC for good. Just make top quality deluxe editions!
Can we get a deluxe already?

What percent of your entire collection would you say that you have read completely?
75%
Had to stop the video just to come here and say:
SPIDER-MAN 2099!!!!!!
Now let's go back to the video!
Have you read it? I only remember the covers.
@@Stephen_D421 I've read the first 14 issues, with some missing in between. I liked more than Amazing Spider-Man!
@@CarlosDias-er6dd Nice.
Hey, near mint condition. When you read your novels. Do you lay them down, or do you hold them?
Maybe an Absolute in the future!
It seems interesting but I really dont like the art on this

Huge Allred fan, but……. Everyone looks like zombies in this. 😢
When will the review for the Spider-Man 2099 omnibus come out? I can’t wait for it!!!

I know Art is subjective, but I can't stand Allred's art, it always just looks so stiff and fake. A pity as it looks like a good story.
