- Week seven of my weekly slowstitch-along for 2024. With Valentine's day on the horizon, we will make a scrappy collage heart in tribute to a loved one. In my case, it's my two grannies who have a special connection with Valentine's day. ❤️
Here is the playlist of all the videos in the series, including the two part tutorial for the stitch journal

I also have a granny named Elsie 🥰
When you jumped across to do your other granny's french knot heart, I thought "They're both connected by you." ❤
That's such a lovely thought, thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful Story, love this week's stitch along. My Eldest Son passed on Valentines Day 43 years ago @ 4months old. and have always created something in his memory every
year, and I place them in my memory box. Love your Tribute and work in their Memory. Huge Hugs from NZ xx
Oh Jude, I am so sorry to hear that, hugs to you too ❤️
Sending you love Jude xx
Sending you hugs, Jude, I'm sure your work is filled with love for your son x
I'm so sorry for your loss. What a beautiful way to mark the day.
Oh no, not gross! You are contributing your DNA to your heritage piece of art! Go, K3n!
😂 so a future descendant could clone me 😱 there's a scary thought 😂❤️
Isn’t it “achey breaky” heart? 🎵 Not “winky wonky” heart? 🤣🤣❤️🇨🇦
@@loiscassels8966 oh thank you, now I will have that in my head for hours 😂
@@loiscassels8966 we have children's book called "Winky wonky donkey".
Yes, every project I make has my DNA signature in it, although more typically in the form of a needle or pin prick.
Oh my goodness! Your little scrappy heart is beautiful just like you for sharing your heart with all of us stitchers❤️
This is yet another inspirational page. As I watched you stitch each little scrap on the page, it reminded me of all the little daily routine chores done to indirectly express love for others: taking out the trash, doing dishes, cleaning, running errands, etc. Little scrappy chores that make life brighter. I am keeping up on the pages even though it takes me the entire week sometimes. At some point, I will be doing a separate video to show my progress. Thank you for another page🌷🌷🌷
My pleasure, love your analogy ❤️
It looks like rose petals being stitched down. I just started slow stitching. My goodness it is very calming. One must be present to slow stitch. Just lovely. I of US of A loves your pronunciation of words. ❤
Such a lovely analogy ❤️
Really lovely when common themes come together across fellow creative souls. Yesterday I shared a video using a very old and worn linen tea towel from my nanna and grandpa to make a slow stitch fold out heart. 💛 It’s wonderful when we can stitch memories into our work. Cheers, Christine p.s. and laughing now about your “spat on silk” or poor (wo)man’s iron 😆
And laughing at myself with the handwritten shopping list reference. Today my partner asked me why I wanted “dead ant” at the supermarket. Turns out “deodorant” did really look like that when quickly written on the fridge shopping list while cooking dinner 😆
😂 dead ant!
It’s 4am here in the US- but I couldn’t sleep & found you creating. There was a time when I would have jumped right up to join in- but I’ll wait a few hours till daylight.
Happy to keep you company in the wee small hours ❤️
Good morning @Jaynewood6714 I just read the comments - after I had commented about being up in the wee hours! It is now 4:21 a.m. Central time. I’m now switching to something a little boring to watch so that I may grab a few more winks!
Love watching you every week with another wonderful project. I’m so glad I found your channel!
“Held together by scraps of love” Lovely heart ❤️
Lovely. Thank you : )
I just love your channel. The heart is beautiful. I am going to make one myself as soon as we get moved. And French knots !!! Thank you. I never was shown how to make one so now I can do it the right way! I made one piece after watching you and it was much harder than it looked. But it turned out pretty nice. I’m going to make a little bag out of it! Well, again I love your channel!!
Thank you and so happy you are here ❤️
Wonderful project 🥰
Oh, merci beaucoup.
You’re a wonderful teacher….thank you for this inspirational series!!!😊❤❤❤
I may not say it out loud but i do hear you say it in my mind whenever i put a pin in something. Apliiiiique! 😊 Lovely heart! 🍀💖
Thank you Machteld ❤️
It’s the wee hours here but I couldn’t sleep and was so excited that I could watch you earlier than usual! Lol Of course I didn’t actually work along but I’ll re-watch and do that later. What a wonderful idea. The Valentine’s connection of your two Grandmothers- that’s just intriguing! My paternal grandmother was born on Valentine’s Day. She inspired my creative side with her quilting. She was a very loving Granny. I live in her house now (if only for a while). She’s been gone now for decades. Thank you for stirring memories, I had actually forgotten her birthday was upon us!
My paternal grandmother was also born on Valentines Day, 1900, it was always easy to remember her birthday and how old she was.
Love this! Grannies are one of the BEST things in life. I didn't know my real grannies but had priceless substitutes. Thank you Wilma and Gertrude, both of whom taught me to sew among other things. ❤❤
I think grannies are so important in our lives (and grandparents in general, I had a wonderful relationship with my paternal grandfather). I lived with my maternal grandmother (the one I use to talk about) until I was 39, when she passed away. She was a bit of a harsh woman, because of her difficult youth, but she passed on to me many things, she didn’t say do this or do that, but I learnt from watching her. My paternal grandmother was the second most important person in my life (the first was my mother), she passed away when I was 27 and we were best friends, she was the most amazing grandmother and I miss her till this day. That being said, I loved this project that I will surely make one of these days, even because both my grannies were friends and I have photos of them together.
I adore French knots. I often do them without the tension on the thread so they look loopy and crazy! I love it 😂
Thanks for showing Fredfred. I was a bit sad he didn’t say hello 👋🏻, but, well, I forgive him 😂
See you soon, Kathryn, I so appreciate your company 🩷💛🤎💙🤍💚💜🩵♥️🧡🩶
I apologise for Fredfred, his manners are appalling 😂❤️

Love-ly ! ❤️ X
Beautiful ❤
Love the ironing 😂
😉😁
What a beautiful connection of your Grandmothers, your adorable little heart is such a fitting tribute to them. I didn’t want this video to end, enjoyed it so much, thank you again for sharing
That was a lovely project. I did my heart with my two brothers in mind. They were twins. They have both passed over now. It was healing for me to stitch with them in my mind x
So pleased to hear you found it healing ❤️
Ooo, these get better and better all the time. ❤ How I love to combine crafts and Meanings. Thank You.
Really pretty Kathryn. I liked the fact you did it for your Grandmas. I have lovely memories of spending time with my Grandma. She taught me to knit and started me off naming wild flowers when I was little.
Thank you Marion. I am looking forward to watching your video of Whitby, haven't been there for years ❤️
Love this!❤️
I love this idea 😊
Brenda: LOVE your heart!❤️
Thanks!
My pleasure thank you so much Candace ❤️
This is looking such a beautiful one to work on….I ve got to go to work now but am happily looking forward to resuming later on today. It s like having a gift to continue unwrapping x Thank you for the lovely projects k3n :-)
Being Dutch, having learned English (the UK version) at school, I find it funny how different English-speaking people have different pronounciations for the same words. Especially the originally non-English words (like appliqué and mauve). It amazes me how people from the USA (maybe from the UK too) pronounce French words (or Latin plant names ...)
btw my own pronounciation is awfull! Really 'Dunglish'
When I go to put my needle in my mouth - a lifelong habit = I now hear your voice in my head saying "naughty, naughty." 😁 You're going to break me of that habit! (Just hearing the horror story a friend of mine once related about a friend of hers who put her needle in her mouth with disastrous results wasn't enough apparently.) I also really appreciate you pointing out that if we're fretting over our running stitches (which I do) we're focused on the end result instead of the process. I will keep that in mind as I work on my heart this week.
Hi Sue sorry for getting in your head but not sorry if I prevent you swallowing a needle 😁❤️
LOVE this!! TFS!! 💜💜💜
You could dye your fabric with beets or avocado pits and most likely many other items to get shades of pink. I recently found that onion skins can make a vibrant yellow dye as does turmeric. A mixture might make orange? Plus I use the Easter egg dyes, when they go on clearance, to dye fabric and paper as well. There are lots of ways to color paper and fabric. Have a play and see what you end up with. I think I will make a stitch project with samples of the various dyed pieces.
Thank you I have been natural dyeing for many years and will make some videos at one point. Onion skins work great. I don't use beets or turmeric though as the colours aren't permanent. It is fun to play though. 😉❤️
Such a wonderful special day for you… I absolutely LOVE your personal story of your grandmother Valentine and other grandmother born on February 14th! ❤ and it’s wonderful that you’ve created something so lovely to commemorate the two of them. Hugs! 🤗
Thank you so much! 😊
My grandmother used to ‘iron’ hankies by rubbing folded, damp hankies up and down the edge of a table. So lovely to see you ‘ironing’ that scrap in the same way
Grannies know best 😁❤️
My great grandma used to fold all her washing neatly put it under the cushion of her armchair and sit on it - can’t remember how long she’d have to sit there for though.
@@caroljuniper5100 oh how wonderful 😂❤️
I really enjoyed watching your video this morning with my coffee just sitting here sipping and listening to you I just find it soothing and comforting your heart is absolutely beautiful thank you so much for sharing love you❤❤❤❤
I hope you and your husband have a happy Valentine's and do something special
Thank you Dawn, he has just announced he has to go away for work from tomorrow until Thursday but I am spending Wednesday with my mum ❤️
Divine ❤
Thank you Tracy, I was watching some of your videos last night while journalling. Lovely to hear your processing with regards to how you assess your work, can't remember how you put it, duh! It was late! But it WAS interesting! Looking forward to catching your other videos. 😁❤️
Haha! Thanks for stopping by @@k3n.clothtales
Watching you use teeny pieces makes me feel less mad ! When I have so much yardage I still love to use every scrap🙄maybe you should explain why you say “ that’ll do pig” 😂not everyone has seen Babe😂. I say appleeeeque and viscoss, as I am from the North of England but now live in Wales. I love watching and listening to you ❤😊
Yeayyyy ❤️ yes I think I should explain about that'll do pig, one lady was upset because she thought I was calling myself 'pig' 😔❤️

This block is so beautiful. I love it. Your little stories as you stitch are so enjoyable. Have a wonderful day. Happy Valentines Day. ❤😊
Katheryn,
Cattywampus😁
I'm from Michigan, my Nan was a mixture of Scottish and English she used that term all the time. I had to look up it's origin. According to the web. origins of "cattywampus", its believed to have been Scottish. Because of the Scottish word "wampus" meaning Crooked or mixed up.
Hello, thank you it's wonderful how words travel around the world and are adapted ❤️
I have only recently discovered your channel and have been delightedly catching up on past episodes while stitching in my craft room during the last few rainy days here in my home in Charente. I couldn’t believe it when you said that you also lived in France. Your scrappy heart is a beautiful tribute to your grandmothers and an inspiration to all. Thank you so much for giving so much pleasure to us all!
Bonjour, I am just a little south of you in the Dordogne 😁❤️
And I am in Sud-Charente, very near the Dordogne border!@@k3n.clothtales
This was a wonderful project, fit for Valentines Day. I did not like my scrappy heart, well, until I did a bit of stitches on it. Now, it feels lovely, and it changed into a new cloth. Thanks for the inspiration. I think we all have our DNA in our projects in more ways than one!! LOL. Like your naughty (and Mine) needle in mouth! I hear your voice now every time I change my thread. I loved to stitch with you on this one. Thanks for being you. Happy Valentine's Day.
🤣 you hear me say 'naughty' but you do it anyway, I like a rebel..😁 but be careful 😉❤️
Usually, I am only doing it for three seconds! LOL.@@k3n.clothtales
Oh I loved the story of your 2 grannies and how they relate to Valentines. Beautiful project and thank you for sharing.
Just found your channel and think I’m going to enjoy it very much. Others might like to look at another I found just over a year ago, called The Last Homely House. Both very inspiring 😍
Welcome Nikki, I love watching Kate too ❤️
Watching this over different times Kathryn. I particularly love your licking piece. Ûber irreverent. You do you. Lick away I say❤❤❤❤ and the ironing trick on the table leg was a bonus❤❤❤❤. Love it all. Totally feel out of my depth but giving it a bit of a go anyways ❤❤❤
Thank you 😂 so happy you are giving it a go, the only goal is to enjoy ❤️
Lily is my favorite name…how lovely to pair it with Valentine. It just sings off the tongue.
Thank you, I think so too ❤️
Cattywompas (sp?) means kitty corner (catty corner to be exact, but I always say kitty corner, meaning diagonally) or tilted, some people here in the US use it like “all over the place”
Thank you, good to know 😊 I just love the word 😁
Very enjoyable video as always 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗Beautiful heart & lovely memory to your grannies 😍😍😍😍😍😍
I love hearing various regional accents, words, pronunciations, and expressions! Lovely!!
Thanks for sharing your beauty, creativity, interesting ideas, and humor.
I, too, lick my finger to make a knot when threading a needle. A little saliva can be a useful thing.
My great-grandmother's surname was Valentine, my granny's mom. Happy to remember that today! ❤❤❤❤❤
What a beautiful design and story k3n! This is such a lovely way to celebrate and honour your two Grannies. I love the addition of the red button French knots. ❤
Another week, another beautiful piece. Can’t wait to get started. Just need to wait for my tea dyed fabrics to dry! X
I love it!! Is this what crazy quilting is like? So lovely to have a new video - I've been looking forward all week!
Kind of, only that usually has seams. We will probably do it one of these weeks 😀
Happy Valentine's Day! Lovely work and sweet that you had photos of your grandmas to copy. I will have to check and see if I have pink & red scraps here at the apartment or if they are tucked away in storage... to make a scrappy heart from.
It's so pleasant to listen to you and to watch you are working.
I love this one! I started on it after watching the video and it just took over my day in a very kind way. Once again, thank you for the ideas and skills AND for that wonderful meandering mind of yours!
Thank you Candace, it's wonderful to be appreciated ❤️
Hello K3n and thank you for being an inspiration. Watching you from the Philippines. Lovely.
Hello 🤗
I agree. No worries at all if the lines of thread are not straight etc. It’s slow stitching, relax, people who criticize have to try, it’s easier to say than do. I love your videos, French from Brittany in France ;-)
Кэтрин, все что вы делаете очень красиво и замечательно! Спасибо вам! Привет из России.
Lovely, lovely - I want to make several hearts for many different applications. Must say, I have never before cared for the "heart" icon - so sweet, but this is amazing. Lucky Grans to have you to remember them.
Quanto amor meu Deus❤❤❤❤
I love your scrappy heart and the sentiment behind it, K3n. I was so inspired (and I had a lot of pink scraps from a doll quilt I made for my granddaughter) so I finally jumped into the FB group with my own slow stitching. Happy Valentines Day to everyone.
❤ I am going on holiday this week so I’ll take all my bits with me to start my ❤ where I’m staying at the beach. It’s a lovely one for Valentines Day. ❤
Have a lovely holiday ❣️
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial. Enjoyed every minute and love the backdrop of stories and tidbits, you chat away so effortlessly I could listen for hours - and often do! ♥️
Very wonderful loved watching you make such a lovely Valentine for your Grannies 💕
Floss licker myself. Figure it's my piece, so it's not a big deal. Thank you so much for this series.
This one is outside my comfort zone and will push me to finding a safe space for relaxed stitching. The rebel in me resists social holidays that strongly associate color and shape with a day. I'll focus on the lovely sentiment behind your story and draw from that, remembering my Gram.
I do understand that, we don't really celebrate either, me and hubby. It's just special for me because of my grannies ❤️
I can’t wait to this project, love the story of buttons. I’m learning and enjoying so much these weekly projects. Thankyou.
Happppppeee valentines to you & your viewers . Loved the spit on cloth Reminded me of my mother when she used to take the handkerchief out then cleaned round your face With it fond memories . Have a great day all where ever you all are . Away now to look at rust dying . Thanks once again peter ❤ Scotland xxx
Happy Valentine's day to you too, have fun rust dyeing ❤️
I love the scrappy heart! So touching. The french knots are lovely. ❤
Thank you for celebrating "spit ironing"!!!❤
My pleasure 😂
Love the way you made it , the scrappy bits and the free way of working. Thank you, Tineke
We say: 'Apliek' - short & quick.
Thank you K3n - love cats - I have 2 Ragdolls - hair all over ❤❤❤
Love the ‘ah ha’ moment as it all comes together.
You covered up the cute little heart…
In person you can still just see it peeking out 😉❤️
Excellent.... as always.... thank you Kathryn. I have a busy "real life" week, so I fear I will be falling behind in my actual stitching. But I always watch every second of every video that you post, so I will catch up in the next few weeks !!! I love the scrappy way you are making this and I absolutely love the idea of using this method to make my meditation scrolls. Yay !!!
Thank you Susan hope you have a good week and find some time for stitching soon ❤️
As ever, Thankyou. Always inspirational along with really useful practical tips - like cutting out after stitching. ❤️
Love your scrappy heart and love the story behind it. Great idea and video. My parents were married on Valentine's Day so my heart will be in remembrance of them.
🥰❤️ lovely ❤️🥰
Valentine’s Day is very special to me as it was my Dad’s birthday.❤️
Dogs have masters, but cats have servants
Correct 😁
Me again! I am really annoying 😂! Just wanted to say how AWESOME I thought that tip of primitive ironing 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻, because my iron and I are practically enemies 😂
You're welcome 😂 like me and my iron 😉
I ❤️ how you placed your Grannies in a shape of a heart also! Looking forward to this project! 🙏🏼
I smile every time you say the word jumper. To me a jumper is a dress similar to a pinafore. And I also adore your method for I am in small pieces I no longer I have to get up and turn the iron on for a little teeny piece of fabric, I so appreciate being on this journey with you and the rest of the community, thank you.
Love your heart and the beautiful story behind the lovely stitching 🧵 ❤
Very pretty. I'm sure your grannies would have loved your tribute.I like making French knots, and am looking forward to using some soon.
Absolutely beautiful. Happy Valentine’s Day Kathryn ❤
Your heart is amazing!! I loved seeing Fred Fred. And I love your videos so much!! Stay safe. Hugs ❤
Love this little heart. I can see that so much love has gone into it. Thank you ❤❤
Oh how inspirational and heartwarming has this weekly project. I have no time this year to followall the weeks but This is one project that I need to find time to do. You made me remember the love from my grannies and always make me feel great with the stories you tell us❤Thank you! Lots of love from Spain😘.
Thank you so happy 😊 love to you too ❤️
This looks fabulous. Thanks Kathryn ❤
Kathryn that's beautiful! I love the tip about painting cloth to use. I would like to try dyeing some with avocado skins, varying strength/time for different shades...plus I get to eat the avocados...win win!!! 🥑🥑🥑
Happy Valentine's Day to everyone 💟

I am looking forward to week seven - I have been keeping up and have made my first biscornu pincushion this weekend and 3 rice bags! I love them for project bags❤. Thank you ever so much for getting me back to fabric work❤
This project looks lovely, & I’m very happy to relearn how to do French knots, which I once did quite long ago & unfortunately forgot - I’ve often meant to google them & relearn, but never got around to it. No excuse now! I really like the way the little red knot looks in the black & white photograph of your grannies, K3n! 🙏🐞
Я в восторге от ваших мастер- классов!❤
Love this!!! Thank you for another fun and creative week!
Just beautiful both the story and your work piece. I just want to pat all that texture. Love from "down under" ♥
Love your scrappy heart, I'm going to make one also.❤
I love the word cattywampus! Per the internet it comes the Southern US and is used in the Southern US today. However, I'm from Michigan which is pretty far north in the US and while it's not super common, it is used here too!
