    First-time listener--a really nice, thorough review. I use OTICON now but batteries only last about 5 hours per day. I'm retired now and not sure if OTICON is still $5,000, but that's way out of my price range.

    Brian, These OTC hearing aid reviews are needed in this changing hearing aid environment. I think you are on the right track with these OTC HA reviews. These Elehear's are now at the top of my list of hearing aids. I love the idea of being able to manually focus the microphone. I found out today that Jabra took away the Restaurant mode that allowed me to focus the microphone. They replaced it with a unfocusable "Hear in Sound" mode. Because of this I'm going to return my Jabra enhanced pro 10's that I was just starting to figure out. I'm just starting to look for a replacement set of hearing aids.

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  8 месяцев назад

      oof. that was a mistake. They didn't remove the restaurant mode, they just renamed it. and You can't make the front cone narrow or wide anymore, its always narrow now, which is all ive ever used. But if you did return it, let me know what you think.

    I appreciate the honest in-depth review of the Elehear, and how the set-up works. It is hard to find this kind of information from the manufacturer or most dealers. Even if a person has professionally fitted hearing aids, these would be a great back-up pair when the main ones fail, or are in for warranty repairs.

    Thanks for the excellent review. I have had my Elehear hearing aids for 5 months. They work great now, but I went through 3 pairs to finally get a good set of hearing aids. I spent a lot of time trying different domes and playing with the app too. It seems like I spend more time adjusting my hearing aids to different situations than I would like. That's my only gripe so far.

    Thanks for your very thorough review. Based on your review, I went ahead and purchased these Elehear Alpha Pro hearing aids. Should have them shipped free to me in a week or so. The $499 price was still offered as of today, Jan 3, 2024.. I'll give them a try and tell you how my personal experience with them goes. Thanks again for your excellent reviews, as you are the only RUclipsr I have found to be so detailed and credible after a lot of wasted time with others. Been watching your reviews for a while now, waiting for the right OTC hearing aid to come along. I think this may be the one. Thanks for another informative video! I am still undecided, but feel like I am getting valuable information to prepare me to make an informed decision. I visited a somewhat local hearing clinic last week where I paid $250 for a hearing test and $80 to try on a pair of Oticon aids in the $9000 to $11000 range. I am so glad I did not immediately follow the recommendation of the consultant. I am confidant that I would be experiencing buyer’s remorse.

      Oof, that would have been a big mistake my friend. Those oticons were probably the Oticon Real 1, 2 or 3. At costco, the Philips 9030 is the same as the Oticon More 1 and the Philips 9040 is the same as the Oticon Real 1. They are about $8,000 less.

    Brian, I just discovered your channel and it's excellent. Focus on exactly the things I need. I'm a live sound engineer. I mix shows for concerts either indoors or out, anywhere from 50-5000 people. I've acquired moderate hearing loss over years. Hearing aids, with their focus only on speech, don't work for my line of work. My biggest complaint is the lack of a more sophisticated Equalizer. I use a digital mixer with 32 channels, each with a 31-band, 1/3 octave, fully parametric EQ. And that mixer costs less than half of a cheap pair of prescription hearings that only give me 3 fixed bands. It's shameful. Can you recommend to me the best HA with the most personalized control of EQ? Prescription or OTC, price isn't my main concern. I want it on an app, I need to shift back and forth quickly between focusing on speech or hearing full bands (between lots of noise reduction and very little.) I'm also concerned with which type domes or fitting types to use are best for this application. My loss is pretty moderate - my audiogram drops off precipitously at 1.5kHz - down about 20 dB by the time it reaches 8Khz. Thanks for the great content!

    I have a mild to moderate hearing loss and, being retired, I’m on a fixed budget. About a year ago my daughter bought me the Apple AirPod pro 2s. They have been very helpful in the “hearing aid” mode (transparency), but I’m at a point where I really need dedicated hearing aids. Your reviews are very informative, especially the COSTCO ones. I’m not sure if OTC is cost effective in the long run, but they are getting better!

    Great video! I'm going to Costco in 2 weeks. Compared to the products offered by Costco, how would you compare these to them? Is it worth the extra $1000 to get the Jabra, Phillips or Rexton? Thanks

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  9 месяцев назад

      What a great question. I'll answer it in 2 parts. The streaming sound quality is better in the elehear. As far as speech understanding, the sound quality of the hearing aid part of the hearing aids, the philips is far superior. If you are getting serious about your hearing loss and want the best, go get yourself a philips or jabra from costco.
      2. If you are still kind of on the fence about hearing aids and aren't ready to spend over $1,000 on something, these elehear alpha pros are pretty solid and would be a great first step towards hearing better.

    Hi, id like to add a comment for you. in one of your videos you mentioned that if you get a speck of dirt or ear wax in the aid, theres no way to get it out and your hearing aid may have to be replaced. About three years ago i bought my aids at CostGO. they will clean and adjust them whenever needed. One of my aids stopped working, instead of blowing something clear, they like vacume it out. ,At there hearing center they checked it out and gave it back to me. They have a way of sucking out wax or a speck of dust. Saving your aids!

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  5 месяцев назад

      I don’t recall saying that. I do recall saying that all it takes is a spec of wax or dirt to block the receiver causing no sound or amplification. I also recall saying that if the wax gets too far down the receiver, yes your hearing aid could be toast.

    Second question is... do you know how much and what the unit is called for being able to use the Philips 9040's with my Windows 10 PC.
    Third, do you think the Philips are the best hearing aids from Costco? What would you recommend for an Asymmetrical word recognition hearing loss? OTC or one of Costco's hearing center hearing aids and which do you think would be best for my loss? TIA for your help.

      1. Yes
      2. You can't use those on a windows pc, yet. There may be a device but I haven't found one yet
      3. There is no best hearing aid in my opinion. But I like the jabra and philips right now. I would go in and demo each one and see which you like better.

      @@HearingClub I tried to do that. The girl at costco here tested me, put a philips on me and said, how does that sound. I said nice. Then I asked what about the Jabra? She said someone with Asymmetrical word recognition hearing loss would not do good with Jabra. I asked why, she said they are to loud. Puzzled me. She asked if my PC has a HDMI port and I said yes. She told me they sell an adapter that will let me use these on my PC. I asked her where I get it and she told me threw her at costco for $139. I ordered the Philips from her but am thinking that maybe I will try those and see how they go and them maybe then ask to try the jabra. In the meantime I am thinking I am going to order the Elehear and try them too. If I am not happy with them, I will let my husband try them cause he needs hearing aids too but we can't afford $3000 between us. We are seniors on a fixed income. He insisted I get something good at costco for myself and we will try and find an OTC for him. $500 is alot but they sound like they are really good. Thank you so much Brian for all your help. It has been 6 years that we are loosing our hearing more and more and need something for sure now.

      they are definitely more advanced, thats for sure. The linner mercury's are a decent hearing aid if you are looking for something very basic. These alpha pro's have bluetooth, an app and so much more. If you are ok with using an app and like the idea of using these with your phone, try them out.

    0:11 0:11 Thank you for this indep review. I'm currently shopping for a replacement for my 3 year old Kirkland hearing aids. This has a good possibility.
    The biggest drawback I see is the occlusion effect. Can other tips be used?

      @@HearingClub I received these hearing aids today and so far they seem to function as well as my Kirkland ones do. For me the occlusion was unacceptable. I swapped out the bell shaped ear tips with some vented ones I already had. That pretty much cleared up the occlusion for me. I'm wondering if using the vented tips would affect the performance of the Embrac. Your thoughts?

    What a great review! Your most detailed and polished presentation. Just wondering where these hearing aids draw the line on assisting with loss. It might be helpful if you could put up a sample audiogram that dips into the mild, moderate, severe and profound ranges and then sort of draw a line or x or something that shows where assistance/treatment stops. Is that possible? That would be very helpful to many of my friends who are confused as to which class of hearing aids they should be shopping for - OTC or Rx? when watching your reviews like this one.

    Does the Elehear have a tinnitus feature built in or in the app? I am still impressed with the number of features these offer for the price! It seems like the Elehear might be a decent, affordable candidate to replace my Oticon Agil Pro's should they decide to bite the dust for good. They are still serving me well (only had to replace receivers once) still look and perform like new and even though they are 2011 technology, I feel it will take a top-notch OTC set to simply come close, let alone try to beat them!
    Please let me know what you think.

    very good and informative review Thank you!! I need to consider these as an alternative since I currently have a set of the Phillips brand from Costco (60 days) they just are not as good as I would expect for the price I paid. In restaurants or a busy environment I turn them off or take them out, and in. quiet places I still lean into the person talking to hear better. The case is not rechargeable it looks like they recently upgraded the offer maybe from another video you did ... I need to talk to my Costco store to see if I can upgrade the new case) Overall I hear you say The Phillips are great but to be honest, I am disappointed... in fact right now I am using regular ear buds to watch the TV because they sound better, and for streaming I use $30 earbuds... (I love your channel and it had helped me learn so much in the last year since recovering from Cancer and my hearing loss. I think I will try these under their trial period unless you really think it is a waste of time and their money. I also like the Bluetooth and almost hands free options, and remote mic. these add features I was looking for, still deciding thank you again for your excellent reviews!!

    • @HearingClub
      @HearingClub  9 месяцев назад +1

      Well, that's unfortunate to hear with the philips. I think it would be a big mistake to ditch any prescription hearing aid for an OTC, they just don't compare. Yes, the streaming sound quality sucks in prescription HAs but that's not what they were made for. It's more of a convenience. I also think and from what ive seen over the years, folks have super high expectations when it comes to the capabilities of hearing aids. If you do end up purchasing either a different brand or OTC aids, I'd be very interested in your opinion and what you think. Good luck!
