"You did not desert me, my brothers in arms."
The best show I've ever seen. I don't even know how to explain how good it is or my love for it. This video is everything to me and while I don't think it made the show justice at all, I did put my heart into it and I do think that I showed what I love about this show. Unfortunately there are so many characters that I love that I barely (or not at all) showed in this one, but the song was just too short for it. But in my next TWW videos I will definitely have time for it!
Dedicated to my parents who got me into watching this show. They have been begging me for years to do it and I'm so happy they did! This is truly our show.
And this is also for Gal, of course. What would I have done without you?? And what would I have done without our discussions after every episode??? Кино
When Leo said "we're going to raise the level of public debate in this country" my heart broke a little. My, how we have failed Leo.

Two Cathedrals is the greatest episode in the greatest TV series ever made. Using Brother's in Arms as the soundtrack to the final scene where Jed Bartlett walks through the rain and holds the assembled press corps in the palm of his hand.....utterly brilliant in every emotional way
you nailed it!
LOL
The only other comparable momentum is that Miami Vice episode. Sonny Crockett is driving around Miami in the Ferrari after dark, contemplating that is former partner on the police force was selling them out and got some of them killed.
In the air tonight, Phil collins. The calm in his eyes after his angry confrontation with his former partner, and he realizes he has to make amends to his ex-wife before he tries to undo the damage.
Absolutely - still get goosebumps. From the script to to the staging and camera work, the way the cast brings it to life it is perfection.
More comments--Aaron Sorkin said that when he heard Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" he knew that one day he would use it to create a finale. "Two Cathedrals" is the greatest hour of commercial TV ever seen.
+sandih29687 - Two Cathedrals wasn't just a TV show. It was more. It could stand as a great movie in it's own right. And, I thought the end scene with Brothers In Arms was the most perfect blending of music with visuals I have ever seen. I could be wrong, but I thought it was actually 2 hours. I think that Aaron Sorkin is both a poet & a lyricist, if that makes any sense. Best wishes, Ted
Agree. Greatest one hour in the history of television.
Two Cathedrals is STILL the finest hour of TV ever. Am so glad that it can be recognized as such. Still waiting for the series to come out on Blu-Ray
sandih29687 that 1st season is the best tv produced
Another NBC Show, MIami Vice used the Song as Well.
I'm a mental health nurse and often use Leo's 'there's a guy walking along and falls into a hole' speech and it never fails to make my patients think.
Two Cathedrals will always be my favourite West Wing episode 🙏
Agreed on Two Cathedrals but this clip is a mash-up and Leo telling Josh the story is from the Christmas episode from season 2, episode 10, "Noel", the concert with Yo Yo Ma.
Two Cathedrals was not just a great TV episode. It could have been a great theatrical movie.
I'd heard that parable many times before but John Spencer made it his from that point on.
fucked up, bad nurse, bad
Mr Sparkes, thank you for sharing this wonderful parable with your patients. This story really resonates with me. Please keep helping people with mental health problems.
It was only a fictional TV series, but to me, this is the America that I want for all of us. Why don't we have real leaders like this?
The Brothers In Arms at the end of Two Cathedrals - When Leo said watch this I nearly caved with emotion. Outside of TWW, most of us never knew of John Spencer. He is certainly agreat loss to all of us.
The most underrated and the best show ever. Aaron Sorkin and all the cast were unbelievable
It never was underrated.
Underrated? In what universe?
4 Straight Emmies for Best Drama Series 4:59. But I agree it is still underrated.
The most brilliant thought provoking television series to have ever aired.
I totally AGREE , and without any dout
Can I add NewsRoom to the list?
punknhead23 the tv show that gave the Democrats the roadmap to become irrelevant, delusional enough to think that a speech will solve everything. And then there’s the misogyny...
@@flyingdutch9818 I give Sorkin the "Democrats to the rescue" storyline. its his show his writing and his fantasy. which is really rather frightening when you realise how insulting, truely misogynistic, a great deal of the women's parts are written as they interact with men.
women whose story lines are sketched out as strong characters but when pen is put to paper the women are written as hapless buffoons.
one line in particular makes me actually cringe: to c.j. at the very end from josh, "you ever stop thinking of this office as Leo's office?"
when the men fail it is heroically. when the women fail the are silly girls who didn't know any better.
as realistic as the sets are and do all the women in the whitehouse wear snug sweaters all year long?
the show does have mommy issues.
No doubt whatsoever Period the most powerful, thought provoking, tear inducing TV show ever. It made you cry, cheer, and yell, sometimes in the same episode
The scenes with Leo always make me sad. RIP John Spencer and Leo McGarry.
He was the heart and soul of that show. It was quality tv.
There will never be a series like this - ever....
I don't know...
I like to believe that Aaron Sorkin has one more left in him.
I'm not ashamed to admit this: I've binged watched the West Wing three times in the last year.
The first time was this passed December, where I fell in love with the show.
The second time was this passed Summer, as something to do while I was recovering from having my Wisdom Teeth removed.
The third time is right now. I'm currently in season 3 and trying to get through it before it leaves Netflix in December.
The episode "Two Cathedrals" while very sad is probably my favorite in the whole show! This song being a driving reason for it
all these years later and still goosebumps.
So do I ...... Well put !!!
tears thinking of the thugs in the West Wing now.
“ Have I displeased you you feckless thug ?”
Thank you for posting this. My brother and I watched the West Wing the night before he died in 2013, In Excelsis Deo. We both wept and spoke of the great moments in this show - such wonderful writing and acting. Many of those moments were included in this video and watching The West Wing always reminds me of what the United States could be, in the idealized world Sorkin and others created. It's a world so many of us hope to someday approximate. That is why my brother and I so loved this show - the hope for a better time, a better place, however unrealistic.
Susan Hayes Thank you for sharing this, it means a lot to me. And I agree with everything you said!
+Susan Hayes Thank you for sharing! I too feel the same as you..longing for a better world in which humanity can show its greatest quality love and mercy.
+Susan Hayes - Dear Susan, your comment wrenched my heart. The episode with Toby standing for the Vet & Bartlett & Mrs. Landingham supporting him was very moving. I hope the ideals that Sorkin promotes can someday be a reality, even if it is in the distant future. Although I can't understand what you went through with your brother. And I am not a very religious person, I promise to send you a few prayers for you & your brother. Best wishes, Ted
Susan, our condolences, and we will take the unrealistic idealisms, over the world-weary, trampled realities, as comfort and solace.
+Susan Hayes i will run one day
Wow That speech from Leo just hit home more than anything I've ever listened to.
One of the best television series ever created.
The best. No question.
Thank you Emma❣️🎁
It’s January, 2020. I’m re-watching The West Wing. Again. 👏🏻😉
September 2020: us, too...! Quite brilliant..!
It’s Feb 2021 and a Senate impeachment trial has just started. What do you think now?
The best tv show ever the 2 cathedral s episode ending with the dire straits song pure brilliance.
Aaron Sorkin admitted that he wrote “Two Cathedrals” with “Brothers in Arms” at the foreground of his mind. In fact I think he said that the first time he heard “Brothers in Arms “ he began to think of creating a show that would conclude with that song.
Emma, whoever you are, thank you, really fantastic job of Editing. You managed to encapsulate a lot of my favourite clips in this beautifully observed montage. Kudos.
I SOO AGREE .... A very TALENTED editing job done by "Emma" ...
So glad I got to watch it all AGAIN !!!!!!!
Thank you for the video! ❤
Probably the best tv series ever! Brilliant dialogue, excellent acting, and a dream
Well, that settles it. I'm going to have to watch this show. Never saw it before but now....yep, gotta watch it.
Yes! You'll never regret seeing "The West Wing!" A benchmark of superb quality television, in every way!
I watched this show from the beginning when it first aired on TV. I then watched it further 5 or 6 times when I bought the DVD sets. Each viewing uncovering a little more brilliance that would make me cry, or make me laugh. Often it would leave me in awe from what I was watching. It provided me with inspiration to find my own greatness in being of service to others, in the way they did for those that entrusted them. I really dont think there is another television show that can emote you so significantly to move you to change the way you do things in your life, or simply just entertain you. Aaron Sorkin is a genius, the closest other show being The Newsroom, that has snippets of this brilliance, but this is the best. The dialogue, the comical exchanges, and the music, oh the music. For those that have not arrived, please do yourself a favour and watch this show.
andre ghouse I couldn't agree more with this.
You my friend are not alone. What an episode, What a show!
AMEN !!!!! West Wing was the "Ultimate" in drama TV SERIES ......
5 or 6 times? Thought I was the only one...and there will be a 7th.
great show
Sometimes I go back to this show to fantasize about leaders that actually care about our country and the people who live in it
"This is the time for American Heroes" The writing and the cast of this show were the very best! Great video.
Although 17 years old now, The West Wing serves as reminder to us of great TV that is as socially relevant today as back then . Especially in these dark times of our country. A pure blend of genius writing, acting and issues. The Bartlet White House had integrity, honor and truth. To bad it's TV. This scene is my favorite of all time from any show I have ever scene. Perfect in so many ways.
Justin Hogan i
Chills as I watched this. Still my favorite TV series of all time.
Holy shit. I searched for West Wing Brother in Arms and I got one of the most amazing super cuts ever made. You encapsulated the whole arc of the series with one of the most iconic songs they ever used. I am in the process of grieving a major loss in my life and this helped immensely. Thank you.
same here. I am truly sorry for your loss. I guess this writing, poetic yet romanticized version of a world fueld by humanity still brings people together...even in mourning...I hope you are well.
Just started watching this show here in the UK. Every episode on All4.
I’m amazed at how every episode has me so emotionally invested. Superb.
Welcome 😀😀
Best show ever made for American TV. If we could only live up to it!
The actual sequence whilst this plays is an emotional wrecking ball. Jed has to face up to his ingrained guilt and insecurity that's plagued him for decades. It all comes down to him now, and not even Leo, Josh, Toby, Sam or Mrs Landingham cannot help him now.
I agree with you. Which makes it interesting as to why Sorkin chose "Brothers in Arms" a song about comradeship, to accompany Bartlet as he travels from the White House to the press conference.
@@dsteamer100 As I said in another section Aaron Sorkin heard “Brothers in Arms” and made up his mind to write a show where it was the finale. Don’t know if he wanted to use it after “Hallelujah” . Just magical and you had to see the series from the beginning. @Indigo Path you are correct-it is an emotional wrecking ball.
you showed this show's soul. the true meaning behind it. friendship and strength. and everything is just 100% right. the scene selection is 100% right. it's all in it's place, and it's so right. and the song, and jed bartlet. and you. your editing. it's all there. and it's all 100% heart and soul. i really can not say anything else. just brilliant and fantastic and all the other compliments a person can say.
I've said it before here, Emma. Having just sat through the seven seasons again, in the run-up to this recent Election, it has been a wonderful reminder of how things could and should have been, in an ideal Presidency. This is a fine, and very moving tribute to a superb and lovingly-made TV drama!
God ... I loved this series so much.
And that song just rips me apart.
This is one of the best compilations I’ve seen. Thank you. 🙏🥰
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could see eight years of President Santos with the same actors
Yes I really wish we could
I loved the The West Wing, but it ran its course. The start of the Santos era was the right time to bow out - end on a high.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see how a character like Santos would deal with Trump in Biden's place.
I reckon he would not be perceived to have Biden's shortcomings.
Thank you for making this show. It reminds me of so many times and issues that I experienced in my time. There is so much and so many things I have experienced that I could never have imagined as a boy. So many people who stood with me and by me that helped make it possible for so many successes, large and small. This show reflects on so many battles waged in the dark and the light. Thank you for making this. It is a journal and a legacy. Thank you for making this show.
Emma.
Emma, Emma, Emma.
There is absolutely no way in this world that this great show could ever, in any way, be summed up better than this.
Congratulations, and well done.
Great work, Emma. One of the best TV shows ever, and one of the greatest guitarists ever! :). ❤
Here in 2020. Brilliant show and timeless. Oh and beautiful music!
There has never been, nor will ever be a more amazing show that intertwines great writing and amazing actors. I have watched every episode more than a dozen times each over the years and I will continue watching them until I leave this earth. Your editing has got to be the most outstanding I have ever seen. It brought out so many emotions in me as for this show is the first to ever grab me, drag me inside and make me feel all the emotions that the actors are feeling. Thank you for this and may years of West Wing enthusiasts continue to enjoy.
Yes, brilliant scripts, brilliant actors, brilliant production... the brilliant sum of so many brilliant parts..!
Toby's voiceover at the end is why he could NEVER have been the shuttle leaker.
My dad died recently. We played this song at his funeral as he was obsessed with the show
October 2020 nearing our election...then seeing this brings a tear to the eye not only for the greatness of The Westwing and what America could be but also the sadness of what it is now!
EMMA did such an AWESOME JOB of editing this collection ..... I am truly THANKFUL for it being share with "US ALL" ...
The West Wing will always be held "highest" of television series EVER produced !!!!!!
I started watching the series and I still haven’t seen a better episode than this one. That season 2 finale is perfect tv writing..
This video has one problem. There are not enough 'likes' on it - it deserves far more.
this is the best 6 minutes of television ever written and performed!
What I wouldn’t give to have just one day to watch this with my daddy. RIP Robert Steven Ferguson 😞💔
The best series ever on tv...
Just watched all series back to back over a few weeks in a marathon session so the cast and plot are still very fresh in my mind, and watching this, I want to go do it all over again. Such a show :)
This is so beautifully done. One of the best fan videos I've ever seen. Great job. So powerful.
I can't describe how great this video is. Solid work.
ShortPandaFilms Thank you so much!!
You did an amazing compilation of WW moments, pulling together so many scenes that spoke to what this show was really about. Thank you.
I’m an African American Muslim and this video just made me cry. You can always count on Americans to do what is right. They take a long ass time but at the end they do what is right.
I was very disappointed when the 1st version of this disappeared from the "Tube." So happy to have found a new interpretation. Hope this one lasts. Cheers, and thank you for posting. ~ S ~
I've tried several times to put into words what this video felt like, what their stories did to me (which, sadly, I haven't seen yet) and it's just not possible. You took such a chance in vidding this song and you did it so damn well, it's incredible. I miss your editing so much but I'm glad I get to witness this outstanding tribute to the west wing while I wait for you to come back. ;)
God, I love and miss this show so much.
I cry every time i see The West Wing, not from what is happening in this world, but because of what could be.
Best show ever!!!!!! Thank you for this video!!!!!
This is GORGEOUS! It's just so heart wrenching and heart warming and poetic. You really captured the emotional power of the show. Really beautiful
Emma, this is incredible. I am in tears. Most perfect show ever.
THANK YOU.
To think, Leo lost his wife for the cause, Josh developed PTSD lost his girlfriend after getting her fired to win a battle for Bartlet, Toby lost his best chance of happiness and CJ put her duty above spending time with her farther.
They really sacrificed a lot for the country and you only hope that real staffers would do the same
Jack Donaldson they do..civil servants sacrifice like this too..
What was the name of his secretary for most of the series? If someone has that scene where the president is informed she was killed by a drunk driver driving her new car from the lot.
@@drmayeda1930 You mean Mrs Landingham - whose shocking death brought about the brilliant end to Season Two, with "Two Cathedrals!"
They do. In my case, 24 years. It was worth everything.
Thank you for this. This is my favorite show I would watch with my dad. Whenever I feel down or tired, I watch this and it honestly makes me feel good.
This is a time for American heroes and we do reach for the stars. Unfortunately what we reach for is right beyond our grasp. I am a 65-year-old liberal Democrat I’ve been one since I was an 18 year old voting for the first time liberal Democrat. It scares the hell out of me when I think of what’s about to hit us on January 3. I am a make my jokes about Kevin McCarthy on another website but the man scares the hell out of me. I watch the show every day because it reminds me of what could be.
Nice tribute to a great show. 👌
One of my favorite songs covering parts of one of my all time favorite TV shows, and likely my favorite 1 hour show.
Thank-You very much.
Thank you for this peace. I thought it was exceptional and on the mark. I miss those days and these people in this setting. St. Crispin's Day!
Thank you Emma, thank you. Remember when I watched the very first episode of "West Wing" Thought that "the Powers that Be" would take it off the air. Thank you for honoring the greatest series. Brought tears to my eyes.
one of the greatest moments in TV history.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thank you for the upload.
Thanks for posting this. Goosebumps, every single time.
I DON'T HOW TO BEING DESCRIBE THE WAY THIS VIDEO MAKES ME FEEL.
Emma, thank you so much for a brilliant montage of scenes from a truly brilliant show. You rock!
JED BARTLET FOR 2020 !!
Fantastic tribute, makes me want to go back to season 1 episode 1
Thank you. Nice job on the video. This is my favorite show of all time. How we need The West Wing back!
That was an absolutely beautiful montage. Brought tears to my eyes, one of my favourite shows of all time.
This is my all time favourite show. Even though I’m English and don’t have much interest in politics UK or US for that matter, this is how I would like all politicians to be but unfortunately they have a tendency to let us down. The acting is sublime, the story lines emotional and the characters so believable. Maybe it’s too hard for politicians to live up to the standard set in this show, but I tend to think that it isn’t! If you are a genuinely good person you can make a difference....
You picked up where "Two Cathedrals" left off and were like, "You wanna HURT? I can bring that." Wonderful work.
the wire and this series are among the greatest pieces of writing in american history. utter respect and thankfulness for incapsulating what I thought to be our common ground: the power of reason. Man, was I wrong. I hope we’ll meet again.
Emma,
Your work is magnificent! Packed with raw emotions underscored with brilliant scenes from the West Wing as only these actors could pull off. Excellent culmination. Beautiful....
Still heart rending. Best series ever.
Thank you for posting
This show really romanticized working in DC. I wanted nothing more than the shot to live the life of these characters. But now in 2021, I wouldn't do it no matter how much you paid me getting a front row seat to seeing Democracy die.
What an outstanding program this was. Among the best of all time.
What a great tribute. You touched on so many of those "moments" that made this show special.... thanks for doing this. I guess I'll have to go and start with the pilot now and watch the entire series again. This will be the 20th or 30th time at least.
Excellent! Well done! Thank you.
This video touched my soul, in a sad yet good way.
Wonderfully edited. A true tribute to an amazing series.
#thewestwing #westwing
Really must watch this again.
Yes you must.
Daryl Gerard Morrissey Thank you so much!
A fan edit - but beautifully done, and very moving - as was the use of this music in the series. A reminder of how superb this series was: the writing, the performances, the directing, editing, and lighting. I think we've seen the series through at least twice. This makes me want to see it again. So very, very good. A class act! As is your loving edit! Thanks. Appreciated..!
Wonderful! Truly a piece of my life in 6 minutes!
This video made me cry. I’ve lost my grand father and a man who helped raise me through high school. I wish they were here now so I can show them this and let them know I was always there for them because they are my family too. Thank you @witchorking for posting this video. It helps.
Thank you for this. A video has never made me cry so fast.
Made by Emma in 2014 - watched by Alan in 2024 and JUST as amazing as it was when it first aired on TV...! Miss this show!
now THAT my friends, is how you edit film !
Emma, absolutely fantastic editing job.
Very well done, excellent editing. I make sure I see something from this show every day.
Yeah right... Thank for make me cry!
Greatest show ever done... A very nice tribute you did, nice tribute to the show, but also nice tribute to John Spencer at the same time... I am glad they cancelled the show after season 7 because they had no way to continue without Leo!
Thank you for the amazing video!
How can this series ever be bettered
Excellent video. All the West Wing feels in one place.
This was a very well edited compilation, when most are poor - well done. Captured the spirit of the show.
This Series was a Master piece and I MEAN a MASTER PIECE! For the following: IN ACTING, HOW TO LEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE STORY LINES, Demonstrating INTECRITY I often wonder "Have we lost some of this?".
