Damn you are harsh on yourself.... I'm a more miserable b'stard most days - sadly that has been my life!.... I'd suggest you are missing the 'romantic' connection you met in Koh Samui..... You might be a little more privileged than most people I know but to be honest your honest self deprecation is is one of your winning qualities as a RUclipsr because It makes every upload feel real to the viewer. I REALLY look forward to Isaan and how you deal with isolation, crazy food (by western standards) and genuinely humble people.... The people in my home town in the UK often give just the same cold response - it's the sign of a normal working province sadly - people aren't programmed for fun..
Loss of a phone/connections causing mental trauma - who would have thought!.... Sadly it's a sign of the times....

What's the point of making the video when you are not enjoying yourself? Maybe should have scrapped it and then attempted a redo at another time. However, the honesty is appreciated. Way too many vloggers pretending to have a smashing time 24/7 it seems while the reality is quite a bit different. Safe travels!

Nothing to apologise for man, it happens to all solo travellers from time to time. When it happened to me in China I booked the first train back and told some close friends how I was feeling and spent 2 whole days with friends just hanging out and doing stuff and then it got better. I know exactly how you were feeling. Just spend a few days with friends and friends of friends, you’ll be dying to fly solo again in no time!

I really love the vulnerable meta in this vid. There's something beautiful and unifying about the human condition of discontent, loneliness, and of needing contact. There are sun-shiny days and then there are misty-cloudy days, and both have their own beauty. You really took us along on the journey of this province. Oddly, this vid left me feeling ok to be imperfect and gave me a satisfying internal smile. Thank you, Paddy, for "being".

Hi Paddy, I've been following you since the start of the budgeteers and what has drawn me so much to your travel vlogs are the raw energy and randomness of event of things. It wasn't the perfectly edited video or the music or places you went. It was your personality and emotions that you put it since the start, where you and Thijs worked on the farm, took the leap, didn't have a concrete plan and took a dive into the abyss. Maybe its time to sit back, rewatch your first videos with the budgeteers, rekindle the mind and soul of where it all begin. It happens to the best of all us. Sometimes we need a reminder to remind ourselves on how far we've come. Will always be rooting for you and the budgeteers ❤️

If I were you, I would just return to Chiang Mai and quit the trip for a while. You shouldn't force yourself to ride your bike if you don't feel like it.
Take a break in your hometown and try to get that travel hunger back. If it doesn't come back, just get back to work and enjoy life like you always did. Thailand's provinces won't go away.

In 1983, at the age of 18, I first visited Tak. It was life changing. The road north from Mae Sot was unpaved and the place was wild. I crossed the border at two different points and ended up getting an invite from the Karen National Liberation Army to go with the troops across the Dawna Range on an operation against a Burmese base on the bank of the Salween River. Guerrilla warfare, it turns out, is about the ultimate tourist experience. I returned many time since, going across the border, staying on refugee camps, researching the history of the Karen nationalist movement while in university, and having assorted misadventures. It is a beautiful region and if you spent some time you will find world-class characters along the border - at least there were back in the day - missionaries, mercenaries, aid workers, revolutionaries, psychopaths. It was weirdly awesome.

Just a thought Paddy. Your content rarely involves any interaction with Thai people. A little bit of that wouldn't go astray, sometimes entertaining actually to the viewer. I don't think touching on it occasionally would detract from the content which as you say is documenting the trip itself. Notwithstanding, love your work. The production with the appropriate background music, superb.

@@SweetLifeLanta the beauty is that I follow half a dozen Vloggers and they are all different in their approach. Another that loves interacting and entertains doing so is Ken Abroad. Nice German lad also in Northern Thailand doing the motor bike tour. I enjoy them all, subscribe to them all and give the thumbs up every Vlog. Least I can do and will stick with Paddy for certain whether he decides to interact with the Thai people or not. Just thought that interaction and sharing it as part of the Vlog may psychologically help easing that loneliness he has mentioned as well as spicing up his travels :)

      @stevens8785 2 года назад +1

@@laotouaxiong I am sure Paddy talks to people naturally without forcing himself on anybody. It could all be part of the show. Ken abroad does it every Vlog and it is part of the entertainment. He also rides his bike around the place showing off beautiful Thailand and flies a drone to jazz it up just like Paddy. It all works very well and he always seems very content. Maybe it's just different personalities, maybe not. Paddy is the best but Paddy battles with his own demons regularly. Part of that, loneliness.

Paddy, this is why I love your videos. Is not all glamour, beaches and cocktails but you leave in the moments that were a struggle for you. After calming down you realized that your view was influenced by your mood and pointed that out, no problem! All travelers have their ups and downs, that's life. All I can say is take your time and don't be too hard on yourself. This trip is for you in the first place and we, the RUclips viewers, have the extra bonus of coming with you trough the screen. That's the beautiful thing about RUclips and the difference with regular TV. Enjoy the trip Paddy!

Let it out, shout “I’M MISERABLE!!” Live that emotion and then crack on. You were not miserable, you were just telling it how it was for you at that particular time. For me I totally understand and appreciate as always your honesty and frankness. Please keep on filming as you are so good at your editing and just as importantly the 'voiceovers' that go so well with what we the viewer are seeing at the time. All that remains for me to say is Stay Safe, keep filming and don't knock yourself as you really don't deserve it.

time to consider a bigger cc bike, not too big that it becomes a problem in itself. A 250 c.c. should be just nice; enough power to move quickly if needed, and negotiate hills and slopes at a reasonable rate; and space to put on a proper set of topbox and panniers.

I liked this video; it was authentic. I probably wouldn't watch a series like this. But you made it clear this was an outlier. I like authenticity on RUclips. I also found your contrast with older vlogs of partying with other travelers ,compared with what's going on in the present, poignant. Well yeah, things have changed everywhere in the past two years. Maybe in this video you are transitioning to whatever is next. There's new stuff a-coming and nobody knows what it will look like. An authentic creator will morph into whatever comes.

So in your case, it was in the video and for me, that's quite alright. Wouldn't have liked it if you had faked smiles and happiness. Don't change a thing and enjoy Chiang Mai.

I rode with a pillion passenger and about 60kg of baggage on a Honda PCX from Sukhothai via Tak to Mae Sot. We then rode along the Moei River that borders Thailand and Myanmar to Chiang Mai. The internet said it was a bitumen road all the way, but soon the pot holes became a badly deteriorated gravel road.
The road was deep slippery mud and I stopped counting after 70 road slides left trees, rocks and mounds of mud on the road. In one place half the road had dropped down into the valley. Would the motorbike cause the rest of the road to collapse too? We pushed on and eventually came over a steep crescent on a hill where much of the road was washed away, Deep gutters about 20cm deep led over the edge to a drop of about 30 meters either side.
As we were travelling at about 10 kph I decided to stop the bike rather than have the gutters take us over the cliff. The front wheel went sideways and down we went in the mud. It was really hard lifting the bike off of us in the rain. A few minutes later 2 young Thais rode passed on a Honda Wave with such skill, as if the road was quite easy to ride. Thai are bloody good motorbike riders.
Fortunately a Pick-up truck came along and offered to help us. We lifted the bike into the tray. My girlfriend and I held on to the bike in the rain as it sped another 40 kilometres to his turn off. Some soldiers helped us lift the bike back onto the road which was by this time bitumen again. Despite wearing a helmet my face was a bloody mess, and I took a lot of skin off my hand. A soldier said, "Doesn't it hurt?" I was still in shock with adrenalin pumping. I said, "It will tomorrow."
We got back on the bike and rode to Mae Sariang where we found good accomodation and then visited the hospital to be patched up. My Thai lady did not blame the weather, the road or the bike, she said the Goddess Jao Mae Quanyin was angry because I had eaten beef. Maybe it wasn't your fault, sometimes sh!t happens.
Some 50 people died in Myanmar because of these floods.
Face it Paddy, you like people and sharing experiences. Having somebody witness our achievements validates them. But you're also a creative individual and need to do your own thing and lead from your heart.
A traveller asked a guru, "Can you give me some advice for when things go really badly, and for when things are going really well?"
The guru pondered for a while, then answered, "It will pass." 🙏

The most spectacular thing in Tak is at the most remote location in Thailand. A big waterfall in Umphang District. 5 hours from Mae Sot by car. And there is no direct road from Umphang to Kanchanaburi, you need to go back to Mae Sot in order to get to Bangkok.
You lucky you did not get there in Honda and feels a little bit more lonely.

I suspect that the feelings must have been made so much worse by the missing phone, no way to look up places online, no drone etc. I think the thing to highlight though is just what great content this is. Yes even "miserable bugger" content like this is SO worthwhile. Even though you are a very funny guy you are still not a Victorian Clown who must always smile and grin for us the audience. Everyone has down days and there's nothing wrong with that, quite the opposite really I guess, its actually a healthy thing ! The fact that 10s of thousands of us are with you every wheel-turn of the way shows just how much we enjoy the content and your company. No need for any apology and never knock your content when listening to what others do, yours is every bit as good as any of them !

Thailand's biggest waterfall (Tee Lor Su) is in the southern section of Tak Province. The waterfall, which covers an area of 7 football fields, is in an area known as Umphang District (Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary). If you want to see something impressive, you've got to get off the beaten track mate.

Tak requires a dreamy on steroids :-)
Those roads look never-ending yet beautifully surrounded with nature.
I've got a relative trapped in lockdowns in SE-Asia who i know is getting homesick.
Current situation makes people feel lonely.

Paddy, thank you for your videos of Thailand. I lived there for 10 months during 2020 and loved it but needed to return back to China for work. Your loneliness is completely understandable but please know, for people like me , every video is enjoyable (real experience/emotion). Each day, for the past several months, I come home from work in China, pop down on the couch with my dinner and watch your adventures with Dreamy. A nice way to end a day after grinding it out at work. I really appreciate your efforts, insight and self-reflection as you go through each challenge. Thank you!

after a number of days of isolating myself from the world, I sat down this evening to watch a recording of the Tyson Fury fight. While settling down I thought that I might just watch a few minutes Paddy, my third favourite boxer Paddy. Unfortunately it took Paddy only 2:05minutes to reveal that Tyson won. Thank you Paddy😵

Brighten your day on the way back to Chiang Mai Paddy. Stop in at Sala Cafe in Mae Rim on the way back. It's amazing! Beautiful inside & great food and setting. Your subscribers will love it. Check out the outdoor fountains, gallery and gardens. It's also a great place to sit in the trees and edit for a while. It's a hidden gem.

Thank you for that. Reminds me that I need to get out more too! I’m sorry you were blue but yeah, I was a spiraling miserable SOB same-same.

Back in 2018 my group of friends rode on our motorbikes from Pai in Mae Hong Son straight to Kanchanaburi in 22 hours, stopping only for gas every 200-300km. We rode through Tak in the dark, so we didn't get to see much. I told myself I wanna go back to Tak one day. I'll definitely visit the Bhumibol Dam when I'm there. Hey, maybe I can see you there for your "Tak: Redemption" trip!

Thank you for your honesty. I have felt the same way at times and I think it brings a reality to travel that I don't get from short trips that are just fun getaways. The feeling of longing for family and friends or even just familiar places makes the locale seem that much more foreign. In getting through this the experience becomes richer for me. Keep traveling, keep sharing, keep being you.

Shame you didn't catch it on a misty day. It can get very beautiful at that time. I have some videos and photos of the area during heavy fog. Oh..and we all have good and bad ride times. Nothing wrong with it. Just human nature and better to be real than fake :)

The first video of you i saw was the train journey from Bangkok to the South, and everything g going wrong. It was epic because it was an adventure that nobody else will ever see.
I'm sure what you are doing now is not what you planned, only so many roads and mountains but not your fault.
It was genuinely you interaction with Thai people that was brilliant. Hopefully soon.
I'm glad you haven't gone to Trat (koh Chang) yet. Unless you happy.
