The music at the end of this video is beautiful and melancholic at the same time, describing the beauty and life circumstances of the place. This video made me feel like I have just seen an award winning movie.
We visited this village about 15 years ago. There was only one small place to get some food which doubled as a shop then. I still have the Chinese teapot set i bought today. Stunning location. We drove up to say hello to the border too.
These Chinese are descendants of KMT troops who were members of the Eighth Army commanded by General Li Mi, the 26th Army under General Liu Kuo Chwan and the 93rd Division under Major-General Mah Chaw Yu. They settled in Kengtung-one of the Shan states near the Thai-Burma border-at the village of Tachilek. They ran the Opium business between Burma, China & Thailand for 30 years into the mid 1970's. That was quite an adventure Paddy. I had many myself, having spent 4 months per year in Thailand Cambodia 2009-11.
I have to say Paddy, I love your "I just can't be bothered!" when you aren't feeling something. Don't feel pressured into doing something just for the video if its not something you're going to enjoy. It resonates with me. Ha ha! 🍻
You captured the essence of the border village here. This place is definitely on my travel list. Beautiful blend of Chinese settlement and music on the ending 👌
Paddy, All is not lost for the hike. A good workout and the drone view with the mist is awesome. As always, tq for the journey to this Chinese village.🙏
Hello Paddy First of all I want to thank you for sharing your good mood with all of us. I also love Thailand and I have remembered so many good times spent there thanks to you. Keep up the good work you've done so far. A hug from Portugal the size of the distance that separates us
Wow wow wow...my bucket list keeps increasing. Love this Ban Rak Thai as is my kind of holiday. Once again Paddy for delivering such lovely content on your vlog, thank you
Thank you paddy, we really enjoy your videos and your like a person of the family now and it’s helping me with my videos as well on how I experience Thailand 🇹🇭 tc good care and I went to kao sok it was amazing, at samui now. Cheers
Hiya PaddyBeautiful place to have lunch. Your lunch looked delicious. A gorgeous place to stay. Beautiful drone footage. Haha you always crack me up. Always great content. Beautiful finish. Perfect music. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
It looks a bit tacky now, much more for Chinese (and Thais) than Falang. I would definitely go and have a look though. I was there in the late 80's when it was just a smugglers' village with a small pond! Terrific view and drone shots! The army guys are normally really friendly, aren't they! Thanks.
This is beautiful place as I’m Thai never been there before. It will be on my list next time to Thailand. It’s just kinda reminding me of the time there when I was in Southern of China 1996. 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
This is joy. Hope you doing well. I love your high light your hair looks good. I love all places you’re showing up in north Good job paddy.please take care of yourself.
I adore Burmese tea leaf salad! I’ve only had the crunchy one (& in bizarre places like siem reap & Rawai, Phuket!). Love the mis-adventure “adventure”. The cheesy place next door to your accommodation didn’t stand out too much. What a totally different town to the places you’ve experienced so far! Loved it.
So many temples in Thailand, I think that border outpost was far more interesting for a change. Those kind of things are the true adventures. You even ran a spider gauntlet! Also, even before you reflected on your dinner conversation, I was having an internal debate as to what you were showing and whether this place was just targeting tourists. For me, I'd say give me one good coffee shop, a couple decent places for dinner, and FTW. I'm just going to chill for a few days in this place. Plenty of great opportunities for photos and video.
Thank-you Paddy for the wonderful videos, I plan on visiting Thailand in a few years and possibly retire there. The videos of condos with Ice are very good, be nice to meet someone like her someday.
Your channel is fun and could see the authentic Thai. We are enjoying watching your trip every dinner time. Missing Thailand and hope we can travel back to Thailand again soon.
Wowww- if this isn’t an epic vlog, I don’t know what is!!! Thanks so much for sharing this video Paddy! This place is amazingly beautiful 😍 Definitely a place where my husband and I would love to go and check out:) That restaurant’s food looks yummy and so sorry you weren’t able to get to the temple:( It’s a scary thought to know that there could be some land mines up there in the mountains 😱 I’m glad you made it back in one piece!!!! Thanks once again for sharing 😊
I have gone to a Buddhist Forest Monastery called Wat Pa Tam Wua an hour outside of Pai 2 times.... They don't charge you but you pay by donation..... It is in a beuatiful setting. I would like to check out more towns in that area the next time I come to Thailand. Have you ever been to Myanmar?
Fair play for keeping going Paddy! I’ve walked a few South East Asian trails on my own, and as a pampered Englishman it can be a bit hair raising! Especially when you see long thin things rustling by, and those rank spiders. Amazed that guy let you capture drone footage of a military base, hope he doesn’t get in trouble 😂
Yes, many places in China were their own countries and peoples until the imperial Qin/Han and later dynasties took them over and pushed them out. Many Thai and Viet speaking peoples were pushed out of what is now southern China over the past two millennia
you speak with a forked tongue, if you dont know what that means, look it up. Your brisitsh empire is just a boy scout group that enslaved, steal, and killed millions but no, that is all in the past. that is the problem with most of your White mentality, you think you have the authority over everyone in the world and your words are god.
The white fruit looks like the Nipa palm fruit (attap chee) is it is lightly sweet and some prefer them to be hard and crunchy while some prefer them soft. Its great with ice cream and icey-sweet treats.
I like you make video pic ,location, wild, music, producer everything that is good work good job. Man life Good video you very very good amazing you doing very very Good Paddy. PRESENT All beautiful amazing videos
Well done Paddy 🍻 One of your very best. You're not having much luck with treks lately but you still make your attempts very interesting and beautifully filmed.

I've been to Ban Rak Thai in 2019! At the time I had no clue why everything was written in Chinese lol, I guess I was there in the offseason because there were almost no Thai tourists, and most of the hotels were closed, Still, a gorgeous little hidden mountain village, and the army guard at the border even let us hop on into Myanmar for a few hours and I had a couple of beers with the guerilla terrorist group that you mentioned, they were actually quite nice and friendly lol so that was really cool!
Thanks, Paddy for taking us up this beautiful mountain. I would've been more worried about the mines than the spiders! One more spot to add to my list of thousands of lovely places to visit in Thailand!
"Why is it 'follow the spiders'? Why can't it be 'follow the butterflies'?" I don't do spiders either, Paddy. Nope. I'll stick to the scenic touristy village, thank you very much!
Hi ! Sir , I appreciate your working for Thailand tourism without the support from Thailand government . You go everywhere to promote the tourist attractions in Thailand . You sacrifice so much for this country .As a Thai person I apologize for the bad things that some bad Thai people treated you in the northern part of Thailand .Keep it up! Sir . Much love to you.
Wow Paddy... Maybe you did not reach the temple but the view from the military camp is NEXT LEVEL!!!! We call this situation a "task failed successfully"
