Jordan had such an insane amount of mental strength and will that if he had one of his legs cut off, he'd be trying to find a way to get on the court and score.
He probably played hurt way more than he should have due to an abundance of mental fortitude.
I would even say if you compared him to other top performers in any other sport or any other field in general, he would rank near the top of the list in regards to mental strength.
The only other NBA players that come to my mind quickly who even come anywhere close to that amount of mental strength are Kobe and Allen Iverson.
Some guys sprain their ankle and go sit on the bench for 2 weeks. Other guys sprain an ankle and walk it off. Physical durability counts for quite a lot, but mental toughness is even more important.
      Edit:
This is in response to the comment about Giannis. I guess it's a long-winded way of saying: Jordan was just built different LOL.

That hard foul from Rodman is the reason the rest of the season, into the playoffs Jordan wore wrist stint on his shooting hand. Go back and look at the 93 playoffs and you’ll see Jordan with it. It was only by the finals was it feeling better and he took it off. It also contributed to Jordan’s poor shooting in the knicks series. But as we see not only did it not stop Jordan, it didn’t even stop him from continuing to play in this game. His ability to play through pain was remarkable. And reason he’s the GOAT

    • @lamefart
      @lamefart Год назад +6

The team physician said he had some sort of off switch for the pain as soon as he stepped on the court. Like his multiple sprains, groin injury, and stubbed toe, you would only see him limping after the actual game when he went off the court. Heck even in his Wizards years, his teammates saw what looked like reddish black fluids extracted from his knees during halftime but he still played the second half😆
That 64 point game against Shaq and the Magics, he wore that same wrist splint that was shown in the video. He scored 64 at a loss though. He said it was wasted effort, he wasn't happy about his points..
Some notable performance with injury: Stubbed toe in the finals vs LA in 91. Wore a cut open toe of his shoe on the first half of game 4 but played through the pain wearing closed shoe in the second half. He said the open toe despite easing the pain it hindered his movements, it lacked support.
      Tendinitis in 96 finals.
Recurred groin injury in ECF 89 vs the Knicks. He was so embarrassed in game 2 because people talked about it and he scored 15 pts after playing 2 quarters. From games 3-6, he dropped 40pts on average with groin injury🤣🤣🤣
Here's an article when he dropped 47 11 6 despite the pain: www.nytimes.com/1989/05/15/sports/sports-of-the-times-m-jordan-first-in-flight.html

Some of us, or maybe many of us, don't take Michael Jordans competitive spirit for granted by saying, "yeah. He was great." Then say something else to sell him short. I realize that he was very tough on his teammates at times. And, pushed the envelope regarding being a "bully". Maybe that was a character defect. Remember, most of all, that his dedication to himself and to the Chicago Bulls and his comittment to excellence are actually understatements. Because, even though it's just my opinion, the stats are a reality and the contagious mindset to win were such assets that Michael Jordan, as human as he is, deserves to be put on a pedastool as long as he is remembered as being equal to others and yet a great example of being the best you can be.
Honestly, Michael Jordan inspires me to get my energy level up higher and I thank him for that.

I'm not trying to be on some big "soapbox" but look at what Michael Jordan did for people and with people including himself. As true as it is, humorously speaking, he could sure sell some products. And, still does. Back at the peak of his career for many several years later, he really did have an enormous impact on the world as just one human being. Wow. It's almost mind boggling.

An even better example of the strength athletes have now is st 9m20 when fox ran into I big guy and still finished offhand and stayed upright. These guys also cover more distance in air to make thier shots. Jordans was almost under the hoop.

99% of us commenting on this video understand that Jordan is the Greatest and the TEAM-HOPPING FRAUD FROM AKRON isn't anywhere close to him, but what's interesting about this game is these 1993 Pistons are nowhere close (no Chuck Daly, Laimbeer is injured, losing record, etc.) to the DIRTY Bad Boy Pistons yet they're still using the same roughhouse tactics on Jordan. I actually think that's respectable because the Pistons were clearly inferior to Jordan at this point, yet they still went after him with the same intensity that they did in 1989 and 1990 playoff game!s It's the perfect illustration of the physicality and pride that players USED to have, now the majority of players are soft and weak-minded!

@@francisaldrin I've played basketball all my life. Point guard in high school. All-Navy team. Still play to this day. Ask anybody who can handle the rock if hand checking does anything to disrupt their game. Its only people who can't dribble who have this argument. They had their back to the basket over the half the time. And you act like hand checking fouls weren't called. You couldn't just steer people around like you Jordan stans would have people believe. In your mind you MJ would clamp up Kyrie because he could hand check. GTFOH. I've forgotten more basketball than you'll ever know clown 😭

There's this notion that Michael only beat the Pistons when they were "old" (I'm talking about Shannon Sharpe!) in 1991 and they broke the team up after he beat them. Caption says 1993 and somehow they're all still together! And for the record, Jordan, Isiah, Dumas and Rodman were all late 20's and early 30's. Is that old? No, Shannon Sharpe, it isn't.

It’s beautiful when they talk about the Pistons trying to kill MJ, and one of the plays is from MJ’s future teammates: Dennis Rodman.
Those are some really weak fouls. The first one, the DET player clearly caught him in midair. If he was trying to “kill him,” he should have let him fall, but I guess, continue the deity worship of MJ. 🤷‍♂️
