- Setting 40' trusses with my Clark crane that has 92 ft of boom, installing 5/8" OSB sheathing and then ice and water and elphant skin underlayment. Also picking up a Grove 71' boom lift with my semi truck and lowboy
My grandfather was working in Boston in a tall building. His buddy fell from the 6th floor and landed on a pile of sand. Got up, shook his head a bit and climbed back up. I am so glad to see safety harnesses. This was long before safety rules.
6 stories you say sounds like a tall story, landing on sand same as concrete at that height, even water would cripple you. Nice story but reality says not.
Hi Pete, I know that it sounds like a 'tall story', so I looked on the web. Typed in man falls 6 stories. A lot of people have fallen that far and farther and lived.
My grandfather was born in 1897. He served in WW1 as a propeller carver at Great Lakes. He was disappointed that he was not called up. He was an honorable and respected man. I suppose I could comb the Boston newspapers and see if it was reported, but I rather doubt that would have caught the attention of a news reporter. The man might have been docked some wages for fooling around on the job.
Bet you lick boots too...
I had a friend fall 5 stories climbed back up and went to work and one that fall 8 " and died on the spot . Just depends on how you land.🍻
Very poorly rigged harness system, wouldn't meet the standards where I am
Noah blesses my heart every time I see him. He reminds me so much of my son at that age. Same hair color, same energy level and going 100mph every waking moment!
"I think I'm going to wear this my whole life" - Brilliant!
Awesome shop Jesse. But I'm guessing you dont have many crane operator's watching. I want to politely give you some advice when extending the boom. Hydraulic cranes and boom trucks have slider pads that the boom extensions ride on. They will wear out fast if not properly lubricated. And the least friction on them is at approximately 65 degrees. And its common safety to have a tag line on everything you pick. Love your channel brother. Always stay safe.
The wind was carrying them trusses like sails in the beginning, excellent job getting them done. So glad to see you being safety conscience, the last thing you want is to get hurt, you've got a lot to consider. Excellent video as always, your work ethic is second to none. And I want to give a shout out to the guys that help, well done.👍
Amazing that those trusses can hold a Catskill snow load.
Your go-pro mounted on head makes a LOT more sense than all the folks trying to accomplish tasks with one hand while holding a camera in the other!!
Agree!
Noah is a great little helper. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My back is killin me just watching you work lol. Great effort Jesse.
Man! That was a long one just watching it, I can understand how you shot after all that, not only the physical work but also the stress of such a large job, and everything that goes with it like dealing with the wrong end trusses.
Marvelous work, especially on the last day when you were all by yourself! I admire your confidence and skills, but also the safety precautions you follow. Still, you would not catch me on that roof any moment. Once finished, you will have a building to be treasured by all. Congratulations, and may the Lord bless you and keep you! Thank him for his guidance!!
Another great video! We always get a complete picture of what you are working on. Not long put complete with all the detail.
I prefer watching the longer videos instead of other channels stretching out the contact week by week. keep up the awesome videos!
Best regards, from a long term subscriber
That boy is something else. Congratulations on getting her almost dried in; it won't be long now. Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it.
Wow what a weekend. Long form videos from Andrew you and Ant Pants!
I watched them all along with M.bjoernstroem video 👌
@@Halibrand me too lol. He is a guy with many talents. Dynamiting rock one moment and air traffic control for private jets the next 🤯
@@Halibrand the airport work was a nice surprise

Always nice to see the personal product of a professional
Seeing you work all alone exhausted me. I need rest.
Great progress, shop is coming together well.
End trusses, "what are you going to do?" I know you come up with a satisfactory fix.
Intro was epic, well done Jesse.
Never saw a concrete roof done before, first men on multiple jobs...respect
Your and Pat are awesome together, like brothers from a different mother🙂Jesse, PERFECT music for settling the first truse up. The three of you, [ you, your brother and Pat ] work like a well oiled machine, great to see. The respect you all have for one another in whatever jobs you are all doing to get things done! Sounds like liuttle Nopah, is gonna be going into the family business when he grows up..🙂. That FORD gas boom lift, you should maybe sell as it, and get another that is NOT a ford [ My husband says of Fords is, Fix Or Repair Daily ]. Mike [ Dirt Perfect ] bought one for his business in Derby Indiana, and it distroyed his one trailer as well, he neded up having to install all new flooring on his trailer, went with Diamond Plate I think. Congrats on the " newer '] Boom lift and it's Disiel!! Great Video, look forwqard to the next one, and more completeion done on your garage. Is your House finished now?? Stay Well and God bless you and your family and Pat as well.
Your husband is an asshole.
You’re videos are top notch. Look forward to them always.
Watching in the UK…Love the long videos
Congratulations your dream garage shop is coming out great 👍 👌 👏
Most men ( those that like to build things ) would love to have a shop like yours. We all have to make compromises somewhere. I have learned in life that no-matter how good you have things, you are never content and always wish or had hoped for something better.
You have an amazing work ethic. Very glad for your success in this video. That can be a dotting task. Seems like the weather was in your favor while doing this.
Noah never fails to crack me up 😂😂😂
Congrats on making it happen, great fun to see. Hi from Michigan.
Wow, Jesse. Yet again, you've amazed us with your creativity, progress & another leap forward with the dream shop build.
It must be freezing for Noah, the site foreman, to be still wearing jeans and a t shirt. The little man is growing quickly.
The new boom lift is an absolute beast.
If you haven't already subscribed, guys show your support, and let's help Jesse out
the deck on that flatbed definitely seen better days 😳
yeah they need to throw some white oak on their saw mill and re plank it. Somebody is going to get a board to the face soon.

That CLARK BIG BOY is the shizzle..!
Carry on
Got that 2-stroke, 6V53 Detroit in it too!
garage coming along Jesse. setting those trusses is art in itself, to get them dang up on is some voodoo magic. nice catch on trusses starting to get out of whack. ice and water shield gets frustrating, eats up alotta time getting it to lay right. your frustration with that boom lift justified Jesse. if you can 'borrow' parts off it to keep the other ones running, it served some purpose
A great looking job - looking forward to watching over the next few days
How do you find deals like that?? $3500?? Man, what a buy. Your shop is coming together nicely. I've built lots of homes, but back in those days we never used fall protection so I've never used it at all. But I wonder, have you seen those self retracting devices that basically will only let the rope go out slowly? So they are always trying to wind up a little bit, but if you fall it will allow the rope to go out but slow enough that you would just lower to the ground without being hurt. If you had one of those attached to your crane up above the roof, it seems like you would be safe and not have any rope management issues either. I've done a lot of shingle roofing too. Hopefully never again though! ;-)
Those retractable tethers are really nice but they are like $600 for a halfway decent one. I never used to use fall protection either but with so many people watching me I dont want to set a bad example and have somebody get hurt. But also its nice to know I will be there for my kids. That lift was a steal for that much. Once in a while the controls dont work for a few minutes but atleast I will have the patience to work on it vs the gas engine one
@@jmuller86 The $600 bucks ain't even the bad part . It only good for 5 years. All safety gear must be replaced every 5 years. If you need a harness you the cut man on the ground. I've been a carpenter since 76. I don't wear a leash .There for dogs.🍻
Quite the advertisement for paslode surviving that fall twice with no issues
now he's got to test one 32ft fall 😂
Jesse Muller is a talented multi purpose man
With so many machines to keep going it's about time that you have this building Jesse. I've worked in a similar capacity on farming machines and it takes a lot of space and we only had one 14 by 16 door to manipulate up to 6 machines into an almost similar sized area. Good going on getting the roof made weatherproof, especially by yourself at the end. I bet those two boys are a handful too.
ANOTHER GREAT JOB JESSE, MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU.THE GARAGE IS COMING OUT BEAUTIFUL.
Appreciate the peaceful construction.
Absolutely well done Jesse, amazing job putting the rolls on by yourself. Thanks for sharing.
Good job, Jesse. You got a lot accomplished.
So, maybe the timing belt has been the issue all along.
Thanks for the video.
could be, I am wondering if it has been loose the whole time
yourself, Andrew and Ants Pants are rocking YT these days!!
Another fantastic video love them love the length of them the explanations and why all of it im looking to move from the UK and the states is one option I'm looking at
I really enjoyed all the camera angles you incorporated into this video. Very cinematic. Keep up with the great content Jesse. Glad to see everything coming together on your garage build.
This video needs waaaaay moore trucking, the amount of sunglasses is good.
Excellent work
Always have the boom almost straight up when you push out or retract your boom. Your grease will last longer 👍🏻👍🏻😉
Love your place and videos. 🇳🇴🇳🇴 Hello from Norway
Wonderful , what a nice building. I would ask your local fire dept to come and put a water stand pipe in one of your lakes. Would be helpful for insurance, and for fire suppression in the sad event of a fire on your property.
Both you and Andrew are living the dream keep on dreaming, believing, living
I think you are doing great job on your house and shop
Excellent job as always! I wish I would have built a 40x60, but I was only planning on putting a boat in it. Ive' determined if I built one the size of a football field I would have filled it though! If you haven't already, don't give up on that man lift. I have never heard of that engine, maybe for a tractor? Find a 300 6 cylinder and rebuild it. You will never have to mess with it again and like you said that other machine is heavy. I have always been a Ford guy, but I am older than you and when Ford went to this variable timing crap they had some incredible engines. It would be of no use to you but the 4.0 210 hp v6 was bad ass in 4 rangers I had then before that the 260, 289, 302 were incredible and my dad had a "truck" 360 new in 1972. I had a new 1991 F 250 4x4 with 4:10.1 limited slips with a port fuel injected 460 that was a monster. Those 300 inline 6's are unstoppable. They are in Tugs to pull planes. I had my first diesel experience 2 years ago I bought a TYM T 25 with a Kukje diesel that kicks my neighbors 37 hp Deeres butt in lift capacity and all the way around. I researched for 6 months and neither Deere or Kubota could touch TYM. TYM made Branson, RK, and maybe Mahindra? I was skeptical about the Kukje but they have been in Deere and other tractors since 1959 and I believe Cummins makes them. I did have a JD 430 with a 3 cylinder Yanmar 20 hp that was a beast. Just remember. If it's too small you have room to build another one! lol
Excellent work!
Looks good plenty of space and height 🇬🇧🇮🇪.
Rock climbing!! Yessss! Awesome pal!
Hat’s off to your guys climbing around those trusses!
The Crazy Framer would have done the whole building all by himself.😂😂😂❤
so much work done ,amazing !!
good camera work Jesse - gonna be a NICE shop
05:50 - 06:00 al least he is using a real good tool! 😂😂😂Greetings from Hamburg, Germany!
Your vidios are the best 👍👍👍👍
Need some tag lines on those trusses.. ❤ The spacers between the trusses was genius!
I did have two taglines on every truss except for the first one
@@jmuller86 Jesse you have to try to publish this video because the subtitles are still not available or in you tube studio you can add subtitles to the video already published sorry if I still come back to the subtitles but I am French-speaking and without the subtitles automatically translated into French I have a lot of difficulty understanding
Awesome job man
2 40 40 of joy great shop great time spent with you guys
Jesse, I like very much, no adds, no promo's and no BS. great stuff, always was and always is Im guessing. Thank you. I bet the old calf muscles were a bit tender for a few days after all that?
Some of the best on RUclips! Watched the whole thing without a hint of being drowsy. For me that's saying something. Kind of feel like you and Pat are my friends but you don't know me. Been watching your videos for years.
I'm about the same age as you dad and retired.
thanks, I actually fall asleep watching my videos alot, mainly because its like the 4th time seeing the same thing but this video didnt make me fall asleep so thats why I kept it longer
Great Job 👍 .
Being only 10 feet, you may not need stiff backs on the end trusses but I would do them anyway to remove any chance of sway or bow on the wall, 1 horizontal about 5 foot mark and 3-4 vertical ones dvivding it into sections going up to the horizontal stiffback. then maybe 2-3 above it. All else looks good. My friend just used the GAF ice shield on his house too, seems to work alright until you get a cut in it but what doesn't leak when it has a cut in it, in the valley (idiots put that up there). Doesn't look like you have storage up there, but build a walkway in the attic so you can rewire and do additions in the future without stepping through the ceiling. I also like to add bracing to the bottom chord of the trusses from one end to the other about 10 feet apart and running the length of the building, to keep the ceiling from moving, I don't remember if I saw those in your bracing.
Yea I am gonna put some stiffbacks on the gable framing, i hate 2x on the flat on anything more than 4ft, too wobbily
Good job Jesse. Great help too.
Good job guys!
It must be a royal pain to have to manipulate all the cameras, tripods and drone when you are trying to work on a project. I, for one, really appreciate the fact that you take the time to do that. We can all follow along with your progress on the homestead. Really appreciated!
For the lift i would put a little kubota four cylinder diesel in there it would work perfectly fine for that little lift
Great work Jesse. Looking Awsume.
I recommend cutting in rafter lookouts into the outboard truss. This is common practive and will result in a very strong eave.
Waa waa my man lift broke. (lol) when i did construction the only guys using them were the unions and we carried trusses up ladders lifted the peaks up with ropes listening to the old guys telling us we had it easy, “back in my day we whittled trusses by hand with a dull Barlow”. Just pickin. Hit the auctions for a little diesel engine.
Hang a tag line from one end of the truss so you can hold it in position easily.
Now it's an enclosure.
Well, im getting close on doing this on my my southern property, 40x45 shop. BUT, it will be concrete block. Hurricanes will be an issue unfortunately. Going with metal roofing, as insurance doesn't like anything else there. 17' clear span under roof deck. I'm about to watch your solar power videos, I intend to use half of the shop roof for solar panels to provide power for the a/c all year. Heat is nearly never an issue there, so if i can make it 75% independent of the grid or better, it will be goal achieved.
if you are going to use solar for AC....you must check into the DC hybrid mini splits. They have a built in solar controller, so basically you wire a few solar panels directly into them and they run off DC until the clouds come out or the sun comes down and then they switch to AC. EG4 makes them

@@jmuller86 oh wow, thank you for the reply Jesse, much appreciated 👍 will definitely look into this.
Jesse trying to Trigger people with the Ford hate. 😂
Out of all the things ive seen Jessie work on, gave him fits, caused him all kinds of problems that he has worked through and he let a simple Ford 2.3 beat him up😂. As long as you keep that 2.3 maintained right and dont overheat it then it will run 2-300k miles happily so that should easily be 3-5k hrs no problem in a machine thats steady rpm. The rental company i worked at those engines had 7-8k hrs and were relatively problem free but the rest of the machine was worn out by then though. Go through the fuel system and and install a new timing belt kit Jessie, cant blame the engine for the fuel it uses or how it was maintained prior to you getting it. Thats going to be an awesome shop cant wait to see you working in it
is it an interference engine? I may rebuild it, as It would be scrap metal otherwise. I just dont have any patience for gas engines.
@@jmuller86 they are an interference engine but ive seen many strip the belt on start up, running wide open throttle and at idle that didnt bend a valve but did snap some cam followers which are cheap enough. Its really a toss up if any damage was done really, normally a 2.3 is the least problematic engine and why it was used in so many pieces of equiptment for many many years
@@young11984 I guess I could spend a few minutes and pop off the valve cover and also check the timing belt and the pistons. there is so many complicated electrical parts to this engine though. Like its got that part of the distributor that retards or advances the timing thats run by vacuum. Do you know much about that?
@@jmuller86 its usually just a advance vacuum pot on the distributor with 1 hose, coming from the intake. Earlier carb models had dual hoses ran to them and usually came off a temp switch in the coolant line or water cross over and possibly on the radiator. They are just simple advance on throttle/ported vacuum pots, a lot of the plates in the distributors seize up and the vacuum pots dont move the advance up when its supposed to or the vacuum diaphrams rot over time creating a vacuum leak at the distributor. On older ones i just cap off all the lines if the diaphram is shot and give it about 12-14* of base timing and let it ride, it starts fine and will throttle up fine when commanded to move or go up/down. I will be glad to walk you through whatever you need man, been working on those things for many years and can at least get it to run steady/reliable enough to sell to get some money back selling it. The biggest issues ive had was the newer ones that were stand alone efi without a distributor that had crank/cam sensor issues
@@jmuller86 Swap it out for a diesel. Gas engines in machines that you don't run all the have a rough life. Ethanol eats the hoses and seals and it goes bad quick.🍻
Your son Noah is so precious " I going to wear this my whole life "
Jon on FarmCraft101 had similar problems with the JLG lift he bought. Might think of a power plant transplant sometime. Depending on if the machine is worth it.
What if the hose and/or the safety was attached to the crane hook overhead. So as not to drag them around on the roof and have them above? Not at your feet. GUESS I SHOULD HAVE WAITED TIL THE END
I did do that towards the end
very impressive roof work
good job!
Great video
Thanks for this
Well done ..32 square ISSS a big roof
Every time you start lifting something wind starts to blow. It's good to see that you have the same problems in America😂😂😂
Yep. That happened alot. Dead silent until I lifted a truss
@@jmuller86 good trick for working in the summer when it's hot just start lifting or stretch a line and wind will start blowing immediately
@@harkbelial nice. Im gonna have to try that lmao
How well do you sleep at night? LOL I remember my days, slept like a baby. Looks super
That is an awesome size garage .. Just don't end up using for storage ugh then no room to work on things... do a leantoo off sides the keep stuff stored under 🎉 down the road you can close them in when you get Caught up
The way you engineered the trusses for the top was nice but you could have made a jig for the bottom to make it easier to line up on your marks. Other than that a great job and another nice video.
WTG Jesse!!!!!
Did you put bridging between the lower chords of the trusses to stiffen that part up? Those are effectively ceiling joists.
Awesome 😊
Do you have time to put plastic on the rear gable? That and the man door should get you a pretty good dry shop area.
As usual, great video!
Well done on the roof build !! What pitch ? 4/12 ?
New subscriber. Enjoying watching this build. Agree with your decision to do a wood frame. Most cost effective currently. Also I feel your pain on Fords. Ford makes nothing but junk. They haven't had a good motor since the 7.3 powerstroke.
Using soft wood for your outrigger pads can get you in trouble.
yea but these 250lb trusses are not going to be a problem, my max capacity at max boom and max reach is like 9000 lbs so this is a nice easy lift
@@jmuller86 Probably so, when the old crane op in me sees certain things, red flags go off. Keep safe bro, really enjoy your videos!!
Fantastic ! 😁
Does lumber cost less than steel ? About 45 grand for all steel what did this cost ? Great video thanks
this lumber was only about 25k
You gonna do standing seam on the roof? Or 3’ ag panel ? Gonna be a sweet building once it’s done 👍
3' ribbed , for roof and siding, and also ceiling and inside walls too
@@jmuller86 sweet. You ever see the stuff with old barn wood paint on it ? Stuff looks super nice. But it’s $5.75 per linear foot
