I bought the first Little Willies album and I could NOT believe the amazing Telecaster work on there. I've been a huge fan of Jim's ever since. I have to say that he's my favorite Tele player alive. What a fantastic musician!!!!
Used to open for Jim whenever I sat in with Eric McFadden for his happy hour gig every Thursday at The Paradise Lounge in S.F. He basically does to Country Swing what Hendrix did to blues tiny room and plenty loud... When he's trading eights with his pedal steel player, it's like you walked into a cartoon. One of a kind.
I worked the door at the Paradise for a couple of years and used to see Jim several times a week with the Ten Gallon Cats, Mental Revenge, or Gary Claxton band. Probably one of the greatest pickers most people don't know..
Woah. Just now hearing it for the first time and I'm thinking… Danny Gatton… I mean, neighbor of the beast kind o' thing. But this one is alive. Geez how sweet that sounds.
is he using the neck of the guitar as a Floyd Rose? thats insane,i have never seen someone doing it live, i did it once at home but always thinking that it wasnt good for the guitar so i never did it again, and he is using it like a whammy bar, so awesome
I think the bass player might actually be playing through the California Blonde just in front of the big rig, but you're right just the same - players who know what they're doing can work big sound out of anything.
Amen. I can't believe the number of educated, artistically sensitive, professional career friends I have that don't for one second think there is anything wrong with screwing their favorite artists out of a living so they can get their work for free.
Frank Allotta get it by ear...download Transcribe slow it down work section by section and eventualy u will get it.....tabs are bad for guitar players :)
JC - custom shop. I guess a '58 clone. the most remarkable feature is probably the toploader bridge and the removed edges. straight into a princeton reverb. c'est tous :-)
This guy plays 9 gauge strings and it sounds amazing. We always sacrifice musicality and playability for the tone and that stupid idea of sustain. As if you need 3 minutes of sustain to play blues. We are all marketing victims.
And each album might buy a 1/5th of a meal after all's said and done and he's getting paid. best thing to do is go see him and buy merch from his band in person. f**k record companies!
a hamburger?? it's crazy to think that he's gotta live in NY or LA to make a living playing such unique and off the wall guitar music. aint no .99 cent hamburgers in NY and LA. each album might buy a meal! good thing most decent bars feed us starving pickers! never play in a bar that wont feed you for free! we cant support BS like that! I dont care if you cant play anywhere else! f**k anyone that wont feed a musician!
I appreciate his mastery and command of the tele. But his playing is choppy and unappealing to me. This is consistent across the several videos I've watched. it's a matter of taste. It's like my friend Jimmy from Arizona once said of my hero Neil Young, "Other than his writing, playing and singing, Neil Young is a hellava guy." I kinda feel that way about Mr. Campilongo. He likes to show his ability to command the Telecaster. But his playing is like sour candy to me. Again, it's a matter of taste.
Thomas McCoy Each to their own taste. Some tastes are acquired, and Jim's style would probably have to be counted among those...he mixes influences from Jimmy Bryant and Chet Atkins to avant-garde jazz, and it comes out as recognizably JC. The fact that his takes on timing, meter, and harmony are all as fluid as they are may be jarring to some, but to others, they are a much needed dash of spice to an increasingly bland menu. Don't force it, but I'd advise further sampling until something 'clicks'...you may find it rewarding.
It seems like an endless combination of disjointed, rudimentary tricks with no respect for tuning or melodic concepts. I would-be curious to hear him play a song "anyone" knows just to hear his interpretation and harmonic treatment.
Why does playing a song that everyone knows mean a damn thing? he's different and created his own style. Show me where it is written that a man can not do just that.
> "I would-be curious to hear him play a song "anyone" knows just to hear his interpretation and harmonic treatment." Well, then go and listen to one. He did cover a few tunes. By the way, to say he lacks melodic concept is one of the most unqualified comments to make about Campilongo.
This guy is probably the most musical Telecaster player I've ever heard. Total nuance....total control.
Jim is freaking an amazing player. Truly inspirational and that Tele has some serious mojo going on.
I bought the first Little Willies album and I could NOT believe the amazing Telecaster work on there. I've been a huge fan of Jim's ever since. I have to say that he's my favorite Tele player alive. What a fantastic musician!!!!
I am a rock guitar player and this is the first time i see Mr Campilongo and I have to say that this guy is a magician!!!

He basically does to Country Swing what Hendrix did to blues tiny room and plenty loud... When he's trading eights with his pedal steel player, it's like you walked into a cartoon. One of a kind.

JUST discovered him as a player in his own. ACE!! I love it when you can feel the player's love for the guitar.....
Highly respect what this guitarist does on guitar! Phenomenal guitarist, very inspiring Jim!!! cheers
i agree
Jim and Les Claypool would be awesome.
And......done! They've all been bought. Love you, Jim. You're what inspired me to pursue music.
great guitar player ,knows a good tone and doesn't overplay ...also lots of humor ...just excellent
Fantastic stuff! I only recently heard about Jim through his duets with Joe Gore. Looks like I have a deep dive ahead of me!
I never saw a guy play with the tuning machines so much. IT was awesome to hear him turn to note after note after note. An experience I won't forget.
Yea, Campilongo signature is a real new thing....Fender is finally realising what a player he is! He was promoting princeton reverb reissue too!
…& this was probably at 9.00am in the morning! Respect to these guys.
Only just discovered him a few months ago (by accident). What a great player !
the more i listen to this guy the more i really start to like him.......
I never get tired of this video - Jim is great, and so is this band!
I used to go see him play the living room on Ludlow Street my apartment was right down from there those were great days
That chord Growl @2:49 :) love it!
Saw him recently and he played his tele into a tuner into the amp. Can't get much simpler than that.
@GravityJim Your reply made me go out and buy the whole album off iTunes. Heaven is Creepy, thank you for this sir.
My current Telecaster hero!

I LOVE THIS!!!!
It's a '59 top loader. Sweet guitar.
Woah. Just now hearing it for the first time and I'm thinking… Danny Gatton… I mean, neighbor of the beast kind o' thing. But this one is alive. Geez how sweet that sounds.
pretty cool!
I love how the drummer is dressed like an inmate.
Great Stuff!
Impressive!
Ah! Put it on iTunes so I can buy it!!
Go Roy Buchanan! Luv it!
The most revealing signature of his tone is that simple 2-beat Emaj lick at 2:41...man that is a deep and lush rig. Simple is always better.
The low e string is definatly stretched! Great jams!
Great Tele and a kick ass guitar player.
Visceral, twangy, stinging, humerous, creepy, biting, shimmering, great.
wow..i was amazed....i need to dust off my telecaster...this is just wicked! :)
this guy makes me
wanna get a tele
i couldn't just watch the thing
i had to grab my guitar and strum along
is he using the neck of the guitar as a Floyd Rose? thats insane,i have never seen someone doing it live, i did it once at home but always thinking that it wasnt good for the guitar so i never did it again, and he is using it like a whammy bar, so awesome
Great playing!
When are you coming to Portugal? Hope soon!
@talpajam I loved that lick so much I had to learn it... now I just have to try to teach myself the rest of the song (ya right!!!).
Jim's signature Tele is due out soon.
thats crazy
my great grandfathers name is
Jim Campilango
I think the bass player might actually be playing through the California Blonde just in front of the big rig, but you're right just the same - players who know what they're doing can work big sound out of anything.
Watching in 2019
Wow, it's now 2021!!
Does anyone know the name of either of the 2 pieces he plays in this clip? So good, I'd like to get them. Thanks!
Killer guitar player there. I'd like to hear him play a B bender. I bet he could really create some seriously strange tunes.
muito bom
Amen. I can't believe the number of educated, artistically sensitive, professional career friends I have that don't for one second think there is anything wrong with screwing their favorite artists out of a living so they can get their work for free.
It's called 'Twister.'
fuckin awesome
Do it - get a Tele!
Does anyone know what album these two songs are from?
Does anyone know where I could get the tabs for this? This guy is a freakin genius!!!!
Frank Allotta get it by ear...download Transcribe slow it down work section by section and eventualy u will get it.....tabs are bad for guitar players :)
His TrueFire course breaks this down. It's called Twister in the course.
Frank Allotta You'd probably be better off just listening and watching to learn it. I bet this hasn't ever been tabbed out.
Levi Clay transcribed it recently!
I just saw this.... ruclips.net/video/qKLWti1ZIQI/видео.html
A country player on acid???
Chicken Pickin' from Mars.
Does anyone know the name of the song at 3:29?
Jimmy P Thanks!
The song is ''Monkey in a Movie''. It's from ''Heaven is Creepy'' album.
@@НиколаТомић-з2х Thanks, that's one of the most impressive riffs I've ever seen.
jazuz his hands are huge...
I hate to say this but....
I have Eric Clapton in Stratocaster world.
And I have Jim Campilongo in Telecaster world.
How much of those 99 cents go to Jim? I don't know how iTunes operates regarding artists comission.
JC - custom shop.
I guess a '58 clone. the most remarkable feature is probably the toploader bridge and the removed edges. straight into a princeton reverb. c'est tous :-)
What kind of tele is this??
Sounds like something Jerry Reed would play
WooF!
it seems like Bill Frisell guitar playing isn't ?
what was the second song called?
Monkey in a movie
'59 Telecaster...

my tele doesn't want me to play it anymore after hearing this... poor thing....
@GravityJim
Well he could afford that vintage Tele...
This guy plays 9 gauge strings and it sounds amazing. We always sacrifice musicality and playability for the tone and that stupid idea of sustain. As if you need 3 minutes of sustain to play blues. We are all marketing victims.
FOH!
The camerawork is making me seasick.

@Thomas McCoy this is like saying you hate metal cause it has bad tones unlike your favorite jazz genre.. 😅
@@rionn9 You are speaking to genre, I'm referring to a specific musician. This is a false equivalency.
