  • With this video we will share a direct comparison between the Mooer GE 150, the Valeton GP 100, the NUX MG 300 and the Harley Benton DNA fx git. First of all we will hear the four units in action with a demo song, then we will compare the features and technical characteristics of the four units with a very detailed comparison chart also checking out how fast are to change preset, then we will ear more sounds, also comparing the units to real tube amps, and finally I will give you my 2 cents. In few days I will also upload an alternative version of the demo song played just with real amps. So I hope you enjoy and please subscribe and hit the bell, it’s gonna help me to make more videos like this!!!

    Problems I encountered with the modelers:
    Mooer and HB: not recognized as audio interface in my Mac
    Valeton: the unit was in Chinese and I was not able to change it to English..then I had to update the firmware and then the functionality to change the firmware appears in the global menu. Then I had problems connecting to the MAC and I had to change the dongle…this is the first time it happened.

    The Valeton's ability to change the order of the effect blocks is priceless, especially if you want to play certain genres, like post-rock/shoegaze, where it's almost essential to have a distortion effect after the reverb, or modern/djent metal that favors a noise gate between the boost effect and the amp.

      It's like asking why the current Iphone review doesn't include the original iphone ^^
      the RP is a stone age device. I had one of these. It couldn't compare to more modern devices (say 5 years old), and it sure can't compare to the latest generation budget devices. I mean, at all! Modellers have come a long way. All of the devices in this video blow every other budget device (≤250 bucks) of the last 20 years away, in every aspect.
      Do yourself a favor and upgrade to a current device. It's 100 bucks well spent.

      @@ssm445 I have a Zoom G1 Four that has amazing tones for the price (love the amp sim), I bought to upgrade from a decade old Vox Tonelab ST. I agree that the technology in amp modeling has come a long way, but are there any newer multifx pedals that are even better than the Zoom G1 Four and that competes price wise?

    • @ssm445
      @ssm445 2 года назад

      @@socialdef3 I still got the G1Xon, the predecessor to your G1 Four. I think these are great devices for their money, unrivaled in their performance for below €100 before the Nux hit the market.
      If I would buy a new device in that price range, I would go for the Nux MG300, it just has more features and has probably (even) a bit better sound, but it's not that of a huge step than from the old Digitechs. I wouldn't necessarily upgrade from the Zoom to the Nux though, I mean, you seem happy with the G1. My 2 cents 😉

Concise and thorough with no fat and well anticipating all the questions a potential buyer might have about the differences between units. The comparison chart with all the specs is immensely useful. Based on sounds, I think the NUX and the Valeton were the clear winners. I did come across some information about the NUX Expression Pedal, and some potential issues. There are 3 short videos on the "Helmut Shatner" RUclips channel that potential purchasers should watch first. Maybe Leo can comment based on his use of the Expression Pedal as well regarding those potential issues. Thanks

    Harley-Benton and Mooer Multi-Effect (and Amp&Cab IR/Tuner/Looper/Rhythm Machine/Audio Controller) does have stomp mode for switching desired expressions On or Off, by applying pressure to the pedal (indicated with "EXP" LED). Pedal can be calibrated for min. and max. positions and pressure. Expressions function can be set separately for each Preset/Program. So many features in a little box for a really good price. An electric guitar, headphones or speakers, optionally a computer, one of this amazing devices and you're all set.

    Thanks Leo, a most excellent review - you obviously put a lot of work into that! I agree with your conclusion that the Nu-X MG-300 produced the best sounds and has the nicest software interface, despite coming bottom in your technical comparison. It seems to me that this unit is aimed squarely at the domestic market, where build quality and lots of i/o are less important than quality of sound. Nu-X seem to have made all the right compromises for this market, as you suggested in your dedicated review of the unit. It is also very competitively priced compared to the other units.

    Damn dude... You're good!!! U should have at least 1M subs. I bough NUX MG300 becoz of ur prev review, without seeing this comparison video. Luckyly i pick the right one. Despite of less features, NUX has the best tone, especially the screamer! and for me that kills everything else. In realty u only need +/- 10 present, 200 is just too much, LOL. Thanks dude

    Great video as always! I really like your comparison videos, they're the most educational and most complete comparison videos in all RUclips... This specific one really helped me decide which one to buy for my daughter who is a beginner, and that is the Mooer GE-150. The deciding factors were: 1. It has the most number of effects, amps, cabs, so my daughter really can explore more, 2. It has the longest looping time that would really help her play around with different riffs, 3. It is the lightest, most portable and most trendy-looking, that I think would really attract younger users, hehehe, 4. The NuX may sound the closest to the real thing, but I really like the warmer sound of the Mooer GE-150 more... also, I'm not sure if it's just the video, but I noticed that in your effect switching part, the NuX seemed to kill the sound for like half a second when switching to a different effect, which for me, not a good thing in live situations. Of course, these are really not the types of processors that one would use in live gigs, not to mention that it's for my daughter as a beginner's gear, but still, worth mentioning. But then again, I'm not sure if that only happened in this specific video. Thank you for making these content, very, very helpful! Edited: I forgot to mention that you really, really are a great guitar player!

    32 bits in ADC/DAC is a pure marketing.
    The noise caused by quantization with 24 bits is much lower than noise caused by frequency jittering of ordinary (cheap) digital circuits (quality of 24 bits is not reachable) . So that 32 bits literally gives nothing. (and i am not saying yet about ordinary analog noises, those are thousands times bigger than any digitals)
    By my opinion the leader is Valeton.
    Great review. Thank you!

    I hope the NUX manufacturer puts a separate pedal position for the Booster pedal (not put in the category of effects pedals given a yellow color mixed with overdrive pedals or distortion pedals this has already happened in the Nux MG100). This booster is indispensable for guitar solos, where for guitar solos you need 2 effect pedals simultaneously overdrive / distortion and a booster pedal to amplify the volume during guitar solos.

    Very good overview. Which one has the best drum beats and drum sounds? And what about latency? I read somewhere that the NuX MG300 has worse latency than some, especially when using its amp & cab modellers. Or maybe it's due to the 48k sampling. This could be an issue for me, as I need good quality recording. Any thoughts?

    Very complete video as usual. My only question is: is there any chance you tested these pedalboard with earphone? I mean, directly in the headphone jack of the pedalboard. Which one is the best?
    Thanks for your videos

    Thanks for the informative video Leo. Do you know if any of these units support MIDI over USB to be switched from a MIDI track in a DAW?

      Good point...I don't know...I would suggest to check out the manual to verify if there is the Midi Map ... if not available, I would doubt that midi is supported.
      Thank you!

    Hi Leo have you tried the Mooer GE100 and the Digitech Elements XP. They’re extremely low budget pedals, probably among the lowest. But they’d be very useful as a second pedal. Really nice tune, btw.

    I'd totally grab the Harley Benton along with one of their pedal boards if they didn't want $80 to ship to the US. And their Reverb store only sells guitars.

    Hi.
    Could you use an overdrive pedal before the nux and a reverb and delay pedal after while still using the amp and cab sim of the nux?
    I mean just buy the nux for the amp/cab sim section and the possibility to load ir files? I'm not interested in the effects so I will use pedals anyway

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  3 года назад +1

      @@LeoGibsonGtr Thanks Leo. Good job by the way!! I heard that you have to turn off the amp section if you use the effects of the nux but I might be wrong . I am asking the other way around which is not using the effects but use the amp/cab sim. Let's wait for someone to drop a comment.
      Thanks!
