The Modern Rogue hey you guys should do a video on whip making I seggest caliberwhips video on his "survival bullwhip" I would really love that thx guys
Yeah, you know, the America Lady. One of the greatest American monuments. It's gotta be up there with the Mountain Barbershop Quartet Friends and Big Sitting Guy.
I single handedly stopped a live stream by telling the streamer yall posted and streamer wanted to watch this episode Thats how much we love this channel
Jason's Ultima Online story makes this episode absolute gold. I've actually heard quite a few stories of people in MMO games - where there aren't many real-world repercussions for your actions - doing crazy scams or destroying the economy based on the same principles of classic cons. The guy who embezzled an Eve Online player-owned corporation for millions of credits comes to mind. My inner nerd really wants to see an article/video on that.
In a weird way isn't the Nik Russian thing kind of like Shark Tank? Reality show where the participants have an idea they think is worth tons of money and they are given money in exchange for those ideas....
The major difference here being that no money was going to be given for the ideas (until after they had already made all the money.) It was effectively, "I have stripped everything from you, now go from having nothing to making a million pounds on your own while we watch."
I actually really love the articles on the modern rogue site and happened to catch this one when it went up. I like this style of video highlighting the best of your article and I’d like to see more
What about Frank Abagnale Jr? He had amazing cons and eventually settled down after his prison sentence and started a security consulting business in my city.
Technically Brian is right.... Since the Statue of Liberty is a blown-up copy of it's twin in France, "The American Lady" is a decent title for her.... I just call her Marie.
Desperadox23 it is. The French wanted to make a present as a symbol of peace, and decided to remake the lady's statue in America but bigger. Some liberties were given to make them dicferent, but the one in France was not only made first, but made by the same archetect.
It's been great seeing the channel grow! I remember when I watched Scam School back when Brian had his crazy (but very cool) hair. Great Video guys! I love The Modern Rouge!
Seeing this channel grow is amazing. It's honest to goodness fun, and is really calming after a long day. So glad I tuned in to Hacking the System, and from there saw Scam School. This is good stuff! Keep it up guys!
"I love it when you forget things that you just have no business forgetting" DUDE I watched a streamer once who forgot what the post office was called so he kept calling it "the mail place" The soccer guy, the dude that sold the monuments and the dude that sold the Eiffel Tower are hands down the best cons I've ever heard
Two days ago I played your three cups, two poison one safe, they mixed up all three cups and I was still able to pick the safe cup. I thank you for letting me show off to my friends
I was at Denny's and bent the top of one of the straws so it had the tiniest of white marks. Is wasn't where it was supposed to be so in theory I knew the safe one. I downed the drink with confidence..... Then they told me all three were switched around multiple times. I picked the right one AT RANDOM!!!
I know Jason has worked in IT. I suggest looking into PWA (Progressive Web App). It's a style of web application and very SEO friendly. since it will be the smoothest experience ever. Load time will be fantastic and the maintenance costs will go down significantly! Lately i've been developing one and it is great tech. :) Any questions about it, feel free to ask. (Not only meaning Jason and spikey magician guy)
MORE OF THIS MORE OF THIS MORE OF THIS MORE OF THIS. Perhaps longer, say an hour? Perhaps also drinking (if you want)? Perhaps on another day as a supplemental podcast to the regular episode? Yeah do all that.
Oh my goodness, I just discovered this show yesterday and I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF IT. The fact that you guys went in so thoroughly with your own perspective and the chemistry between you two were just amazing! Please keep doing what you’re doing, got yourself a new subscriber!
I don't know what it is about a con, but it is just so fascinating. Maybe you guys could do a show on heists (they're a little more exciting/dangerous, but almost as interesting).
I believe that I’ve seen and interview with the actor Robert Wagner talking about how he began his contract... cutting to the chase. He went for a contract meeting in a restaurant well dressed and he arranged with a friend that used to drive a limo just to stop by and wave a him. He would pretend like he was still busy in the meeting and wave like... not now... come back later. The producer was impressed about the luxurious limo and thought he was rich and had money. Very far from the truth, he was totally broken, but that scam worked out so well that they decided to offer him a very high contract. I wish I could find that on RUclips. I guess I’ve seen that on a late night show.
The excitement that took over me when I saw Brian on RT podcast was amazing. I actually started watching the Modern Rogue when you guys commented on one of the RT Podcast and I clicked and was never disappointed. Keep up the great work! And please go back to the RT Podcast every once in a while!!
I love this content, but I prefer it when you guys do the how-to's instead of discussions, as much as I love both. I can always read the discussions on the website in the articles, that I read often.
When I was in college, I had to do a demonstration speech. My speech was on how to fold a shirt. I brought a basket of my laundry to class and everyone folded my laundry. I got an A plus and extra credit, plus I got all my laundry folded.
I have some life experiences with scammers and thieves. The shit you can get away with by just being shameless, just picking something up and walking out: if it looks like you belong there, people will not stop you... The first instinct is not to suspect others of wrongdoing, it is one of the last options after we have exhausted other reasons. We are primed to find extraordinary things: suspicious behavior, looking around while being nervous, someone who does not belong in the picture doing something that doesn't look right... Pretty much anyone will notice those in a second. But just doing it without thinking that it is wrong, being confident and generally looking like you know what you are doing.. they will not pay any attention to someone who is just doing their job.. This will also extend to leadership role: just pretend you know what you are doing, issue commands and people will follow you. We love to be around people who have their shit together, who seemingly are in control and know what is going to happen next. Which explains a lot how incompetence will not stop people from advancing in a corporate ladder.
There is a great story of London Bridge. An Englishman talked to an American millionaire, and mentioned selling London Bridge. The American actually bought it, and then later realised he brought a normal bridge called London Bridge. Only later he realised he had wanted Tower Bridge.
You should use a scale of CA+ to CF- . Con Artist+ to Con Failure- (not a failure as in the con fail, but it just wasn't thought out and was terribly executed).
Fun fact about Carlos Kaiser: Franz Beckenbauer, who is considered the greatest german soccer player of all time, had the nickname "The Kaiser" and judging by his jersey, the dude played in Germany so I don't know how they fell for that
"Kaiser" wasn't Carlos' real surname - it was reportedly a nickname he got because his friends thought he looked like Beckenbauer (although one of his friends has since disputed that).
“America Lady” LMAO once I tried telling my husband I needed to do the dishes but I couldn’t think of the word “dishes” so I said I needed to do the “food laundry” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That story in the beginning reminds me of an experience I had in high school. I had a paper due for a class and missed the midnight deadline. Sent it in the next day and the teacher had been scammed so many times by the good old "Well I sent the email, I dunno how you didn't get it" that she had a policy where she'd only accept it late if you could take a screenshot of when the document was last modified. While my legit screenshot would've given me away, opening up that screenshot in photoshop made quick work of changing the last modified date and and time.
8:00 Huh, what's that super fun-looking card game that would be amazing fun to play with a bunch of friends I spy in the background of that shot? That looks like a great game everybody should definitely buy! (wait, is this what they wanted? Is that actually a subtle product placement?!)
That happened to me once. I missed a big test because i was in another town for like 2 weeks and nobody told me The test where a thing so i came back and my teacher told me i was falling hard, and he said it was to late to change the 0,s i had but what he could do was boost my other scores depending on what i get on the make-up tests and a month worth of work. So i came in 2 days later on Friday morning at 6:30 am and handed him a stack of papers. and on every test and home project i had gotten 100% on. Which boosted my failing grades (i was already failing because im lazy and fallout, final fantasy and anime own me) to passing.
I made an account called "RUclips Community Guidlines" and almost managed to shut down a live stream by saying "this stream will be ending in 10 mins" lol 20-30 people believed me
PEPPER, it's not the ideology itself, although it has a bit to do with it. It's that he leeched off of the back of one of his friends and his wife. Doing nothing, paying nothing, giving nothing but writing a book to ruin the people that are rich and wealth. Like his friend he leeched off of. THATS why i consider him a conman
"Soviet who Cuts" okay no one here meant to insult your ideology, holy book and prophet. It's about starving out people and causing strife, we know this.
havent you heard of the Chilean lawyer and poet Jenaro Gajardo Vera that owned the moon by legally claiming its ownership in 1954, he actually did it to join the "Talca Social Club", wich required to be a land owner to be a member. (this first part is absolutely true). As the story goes, when informed of the news and the significant acquisition, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) sent a couple of inspectors to collect the respective contributions. In front of them, Don Gennaro said he had no problem recognizing the debt, though demanded, in accordance with the law (as a good lawyer), that IRS visit the property to make the corresponding pricing, obviously, the inspectors did not reappear . Legend (that has not been proven or debunked) says that in 1969 Richard Nixon sent a letter to Mr Jenaro prior to the apollo 11 landing that went like this: "I request on behalf of the people of the United States permission to the decrease of astronauts Aldrin, Collins and Armstrong on the lunar satellite that belongs to you" Richard Nixon. in response, Mr. Gennaro said: "On behalf of Jefferson, Washington and the great poet Walt Whitman, I authorize the descent of Aldrin, Collins and Armstrong on the lunar satellite that belongs to me, and what interests me most happy is not only a safe landing of the astronauts, but also a happy return to their homeland. Thank you, Mr. President. " ...tecnically Mr Genaro lost the moon after the Chilean Goverment signed up to the UN "space treaty" made in 1959 wich took effect 20 years later, that among other things, talks about the "non appropiation of space".
The best thing about Victor Lustig, in my opinion, is that he didn't just try to sell the Eiffel Tower once. He tried to sell it twice, to two different scrap metal dealers, around a month apart from each other.

Im really disappointed that you didn't mention the best part of #1, which is that he did it twice.
the man of many skills they have already practice with one so they got that going
Brove Cheesecake2 I know I saw that episode so now they can use a whip why not make one

Levi Travis well it's actually french
Don't forget Shiny Big Bean
@@Carbon2861996 You mean the monument to Bill Clinton?
Man the dude that runs Scam School should be on here. He's a legend
Hah! I see what you did there.
Um who was that... oh yeah Spiky magician guy, I know him!
Or they could get those guys from Hacking the System. It'd be so great if they showed up, it'd really make the show a lot better.
Impossible, they need at least 8 foot clearance to have room for his hair
The Modern Rogue that's my line????
The Effiel Tower con was more believable back then because the monument was originally supposed to be temporary.
It had fallen deeply into disrepair and local newspapers were reporting it as a horrible eyesore too. Oh and he did it twice
I single handedly stopped a live stream by telling the streamer yall posted and streamer wanted to watch this episode

YES! Friday is officially "Modern Rogue" Day
He did a test without permission... this man is truly insane
14:25 I think is the start of "TheWhut" by BluntOne?
havent you heard of the Chilean lawyer and poet Jenaro Gajardo Vera that owned the moon by legally claiming its ownership in 1954, he actually did it to join the "Talca Social Club", wich required to be a land owner to be a member.
Legend (that has not been proven or debunked) says that in 1969 Richard Nixon sent a letter to Mr Jenaro prior to the apollo 11 landing that went like this:
"I request on behalf of the people of the United States permission to the decrease of astronauts Aldrin, Collins and Armstrong on the lunar satellite that belongs to you" Richard Nixon.
in response, Mr. President. "
...tecnically Mr Genaro lost the moon after the Chilean Goverment signed up to the UN "space treaty" made in 1959 wich took effect 20 years later, that among other things, talks about the "non appropiation of space".
I like these side episodes. One about Outstanding Madams of Houses of Ill repute would be interesting.
Sometimes when you're a good person there are wonderful people who make the magic happen for the good guys
The best thing about Victor Lustig, in my opinion, is that he didn't just try to sell the Eiffel Tower once. He tried to sell it twice, to two different scrap metal dealers, around a month apart from each other.
Brian: Is it a crime to overstate your talents?
Me: No, that's every interview... ever
I think there needs to be an episode of the Modern Rouge that has Mr. Happy Pants in it. Mr. Happy Pants is just so metal.
