    The Autel MK808Z-BT is a brand new model for 2023. It features a new operating system of Android 11, which is roughly 10 years newer than the previous Android 4.4 that has been used on all the previous 808 scan tools. I also has a quicker processor, along with 4X the amount of ram compared to previous 808 models. The software in this new tool has been optimized to run smoother and faster on that new hardware. This is a full bidirectional control scanner. The new hardware and software combined with all of it's features and diagnostic capabilities makes this one of the best scan tools on the market today, in my opinion. And best of all, it's an Autel!.... No scan tool is perfect, but Autel scanners seem to work in most cases where other scan tools can really struggle.
    BEWARE: The previous 808 scan tools with their decade old operating system, and slower processors with barely enough RAM are still readily sold all over the internet today. Don't be fooled. Most of these internet sales listings on various sites will CLAIM "New Version, 2023" etc.... But really, these are usually "new old stock" scan tools that have been in stock in various warehouses all around the world waiting for people to buy them. Then, once someone buys one of these older scan tools, the new owner will do a software update (because updates are included for 1 year) and instantly this older scan tool with SEEM new because it has the most current software..... However, it's still running on the old operating system, and still has the slower processor with 4X less RAM. If you're in the market for an Autel 808, this new MP808Z-BT is probably the model to get!
    Thanks for watching!

      It is VERY confusing..... and there really isn't much different between all the 808's nowadays. They could cut 3/4 of the 808 models from their lineup and they would still have a great product. Thanks for the comment!

    Great video, it actually helped influence my decision to buy it! I just received it, did all of the needed updates for the scan tool, just haven't had a chance to use it yet (until this weekend). I do have a smaller OBD II scanner, but I wanted something that'd do more. It was a toss up between the 808S and the 808Z, when I saw that the 808Z was cheaper, I ordered it right away. But despite the 808Z not having the TPMS function, I do have the TS601 TPMS scan that'll do that function, so it's not a big loss for me.

    I tried my mk808 on my 2019 GMC Sierra with the Duramax and I do have bidirectional control for active tests, like wipers, windows, and other tests, so the update on an older version mk808 does work for bidirectional control after updating. I would still like to get a newer verson scanner with newer hardware and I watched your video of the Otofix D1 pro and it looks like a good deal and I am considering buying it

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  7 месяцев назад

      The MK808 always had SOME bidirectional control. I did a video about the original MK808 several years ago and I show it's limited bidirectional capabilities. I was able to run windows and wipers etc.... but it would NOT operate things like the cooling fans, fuel pump, evap system, etc. Does your 808 allow you to operate such things on your Duramax? As long as you have updated the scan tool after the big update was released, (either June 1st or July 1st 2022, I can't remember the exact date right now) then yes, it should have full bidrectional control. If not, the functions you have mentioned sound normal for that tool BEFORE the update was released. Either way.... the Otofix D1 Pro is awesome! If you purchase that tool, you would love it! You're already familiar with Autel software so you would instantly feel right at home with it. Today is the last day of Black Friday - Cyber Monday deals. If you're considering making that purchase, today is probably the cheapest you'll find it for while. And if so, please click the D1 Pro link so I can get credit for the sale. Thank you, sir! I purchased the previous MK808BT model, and have used it quite a bit.
    Overall im neither happy nor unhappy. For diagnostics it does the job, but it’s very slow. Lots of nested menus, and it seems to take a long time, sometimes minutes waiting for it to load, after each press.
    I’ve used it on Mercedes and Audis, mainly for check engine lights, etc. and tried some other functions. It does DPF regen successfully on diesels.
    But the TPMS and Spare Key programming are almost worthless. It Shows some good data, but ive never been able to use this to program new tpms sensors, nor any spare keys.
    My support expired recently, and I really don’t want to give them any more money.
    I wanted to see if the new tools are any better, but I don’t see anyone giving the kind of detail, good or bad, like I just mentioned.
    I haven’t used any other tools in this price range or higher, so I don’t really know how the Service functions compare.
    It does seem there are Dedicated Autel tools for Spare Key programming and TPMS. However, this more expensive unit claimed to do it all. Well, It doesn’t. It does give some info, but it’s not a do-it-all replacement for a bunch of other tools.
    Do the more expensive units work Faster, Better, etc? Do they actually do what they claim? What do you get for spending more?
    Can anyone explain?
    Autel does a crappy job providing clear explanations on the differences and capabilities between units.

    One of my brothers has last years snap on Apollo D9 and my other brother had a autel maxisys906bt well long story short the brother with the snap on is selling his to get a autel. Not that it’s a bad scanner it’s just not reasonably priced when autel id just as good if not maybe a little better. I’ve used both many times and I will say the snap on is extreme straight forward easy to use and the screen is really bright, on the autel I find myself getting slightly confused everytime I don’t use it for s period of time. Not confused more lost I guess I find myself trying to go back a page and sometimes the ESC button isn’t on certain pages and it just is a little more complicated the snap on is very nice but very expensive and most of snap on scanners don’t have wireless plugs which is a major withdraw when your running bi-direction tests and your trying to function stuff under the hood while attached to a cord. Fair example I was operating the vanes on my turbo and can’t be under the hood with it while it cycles open to closed. With autel a lot of scanners are Bluetooth and alot of times the give you a free inspection camera which is a awesome plus

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  11 месяцев назад

      I agree.... It's hard to beat an Autel. Sure, Snap on may be even better but it's also A LOT MORE money. Check out the OTOFIX brand of scan tools. They are part of the Autel company and they run full Autel software. In fact, when you register a new OTOFIX scan tool you do that on the Autel website. But the best part is, depending what you're looking for, the OTOFIX hardware might be better than the comparable Autel tool and they also come with TWO YEARS of free updates..... Autel scan tools only come with one year of free updates..... and again, it's the same software. I will be doing a video soon about the OTOFIX D1 Pro within the next3 or 4 weeks.... but in the mean time you should check out my OTOFIX D1 Lite video here: ruclips.net/video/Iffg15V5sXw/видео.html to see for yourself. The tool in my video is very comparable to an Autel 808. Thanks for the comment.

    I’m a first time probable buyer. Ready to pull the trigger. Have watched a few of your videos and you do a nice efficient job. Thanks!
    My question is how much shopping between Autel models do I need to do? If my car is covered will all the car’s available special testing and configuration functions be accessible by all the Autel models? Or do I need to compare more expensive models to this one so I can tell what the differences in special functions are?
    Sorry I don’t know how to word my question better. I’ve tried!
    I’m hoping the more expensive models cover more car makes and manufacturers but that the range of available testing functions are the same. Also was thinking maybe the more expensive models have features beneficial when used in a auto repair shop (eg ability to print invoices?). But I’m worried I have to study each model and compare individual features. It’s a pain to do online even within a single vendor’s lineup.
    I understand TPMS, battery load testing, video scope, and some other things can only be connected to more expensive models.
    I a,so understand there are differences in what special functions are available between vendors. Eg xtool has some functions (vin change capability?) that the Autel might not. But I’m just asking about Autel’s lineup here.
    I’m trying to avoid asking questions about my specific cars and the specific functions I want because I don’t think you’d know. I tried emailing Autel, xtool
    , and Launch the details once and got no replies.

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +9

      First, thanks for the compliment!
      Any scan tool for sale in the USA is designed to work on OBD2 vehicles..... which is any vehicle sold in North America from 1996 and newer, until today. One thing to keep in mind is...... the scan tool is never actually performing anything, it's simply requesting any given function. For example: If you cycle a fuel pump on/off/ or if you perform a crank sensor re-learn, or run a injector balance test, etc, etc.... it because all of those function are already programmed into the vehicles computer from the software engineers at the automotive manufacturer..... the scan tool is simply requesting a function that already exists in the vehicles computer. NO scan tool on earth can force a vehicle to perform a certain bidirectional function (or re-learn, or reset, etc, etc) if the vehicle's manufacturer hasn't already programed that function in the software to begin with. This is why some features and function work on some vehicle but not on others, even when using the same scan tool. EVERYTHING depends on what the manufacturer allows you to do with a scan tool. For another example: that is why I can take ANY bidirectional scan tool and plug it into my same 2006 GMC truck, and see all the exact same bidirectional features and functions. It never changes from scan tool manufacturer to scan tool manufacturer. Sure the look and menu structure layout may change between scan tools, but the certain amount of features and functions never changes. Now, with that said, there is a possibility that a scan tool manufacturer's software is missing something and doesn't allow a certain function to appear in the menu, but that is just a software glitch that can easily be corrected by letting the scan tool tech support department know something that should be there is missing and they will send out a software update within a few says to fix that glitch. Look at it like this..... A scan tool is just a window that allows you to see into your vehicles computer..... cheaper scan tools block some of that view and don't let you see the bidirectional functions. As the price of the scan tool increases, the window becomes more clear and you start seeing more and more features and functions. Those features are always there, but cheaper scan tools don't allow you to see them. Now, with that said.... once you can see all those features that your vehicle has to offer, spending EVEN MORE money on a scan tool will NOT get you even more features. That's where these mid level scan tools are today. The higher priced scan tools will get you a bigger screen, higher resolution screen, bigger battery, faster/bigger processor, more RAM, more ROM, maybe a charging dock, topology mapping, etc..... the overall quality of the higher priced scan tools is what you're buying at that point... but not EVEN MORE features on any given make/model. One last example: I have a 2022 KIA and I absolutely HATE the daytime running lamps. I asked the dealer if their factor computer tool could turn those off. They said no. Well, if the factory tool that KIA dealerships use can't turn off my DRLs, then certainly there won't be an after market scan tool on earth that can turn those DRLs off. Why? Because if that DRL option was not programmed into my vehicle's computer from the factory, then that option doesn't exist at all. There is nothing for a scan tool to "select"..... you can't change a setting that doesn't appear on the screen.
      It's a very common misconception that the scan tool is the device that is actually forcing things to happen when plugged into any given vehicle. That is not true. The scan tool is simply a human interface device that allows people to interact with the computer in the vehicle. The computer in the vehicle is doing everything, the scan tool just allows humans to see it.
      I hope all this rambler makes sense.
      Thanks.

      I don't usually answer those types of questions. I let people decided for themselves which tool to buy as I have no idea what your wants and needs are. If you listed closely in my videos I usually mention which brand is may favorite, and that has not changed. Both tools you're asking about happen to run on the same scan tools software and in my opinion, it's the best out there. However, the 808 in this video and the D1 Pro that you're asking about are technically in two different classes of scan tools. The D1 Pro is a step up in hardware and software. If you have the means, the D1 Pro is really worth taking a second look at. Thanks.

      Hi, Unfortunately I do not have a 2005 Acura MDX that I can plug my scan tool into to verify anything for you. And I also do not work for Autel so I do not have access to any "inside" information. Your best option would be to ask Autel those questions directly, or you could try their "vehicle Coverage" tool on the Autel website to see if you can find that information by yourself. That tool can be found here: autel.com/us/vehicle-coverage/
      Keep in mind, the coverage tool is not great and it's been known to give the wrong information in the past. In my experience, it will show a certain function is not available on the website, but in reality it actually is available in the real world. One thing I will say though.... if those functions on your vehicle are known functions that appear on other brands of scan tools while plugged into your vehicle, then they SHOULD also appear on the screen of the MK808Z. If they are NOT known functions, and they don't appear on other scan tools, then they most certainly won't appear on the Autel, either. Sorry I didn't have a perfect answer for you. Thanks.

I just thought every AT has solenoids and cruise control is so common and wondered if you came across either of the tests when you used your scanners on your cars, just like locking/unlocking doors and rolling windows.😄 If a scanner supports a common test on any brand cars, it likely supports Honda/Accura as well. Didn't mean to ask you to verify on a specific vehicle. Apologize that I phrased it incorrectly.

      Is your scan tool specifically called the "Autel MK808Z-BT" or is it something else very similar to that? Dose your scan tool have the Android 11 operating system? Does it have 4Gb of RAM? Does it have 2.4 AND 5.0 GHZ Wifi? If your scan tool has all of that, AND you downloaded the most current software updates, then you indeed have the new 2023 model.

      Recalibrate, or replace? Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/iOUkiZuoIJo/видео.html
      Is this what you're asking about? GM referrers to the "brake light switch" as a "brake position sensor". These usually don't require calibrating, they simply get replaced when they go bad. If so, yes, the scan tool in my video is capable of doing what the scan tool did in the video I linked to in this comment. The scan tool in MY video is cordless, Bluetooth. The scan tool in the brake position sensor video that I linked to is corded. I hope this helps. If not please let me know and I will try to help with further info. Thanks.

      Both the 808 series and the D7 are great tools. The XTOOL D7 keeps getting better because it's relatively new to the market (XTOOL is only a few years old) and they keep working the bugs out. The Autel 808 is already refined and works FAIRLY smooth because Autel has been doing this much longer than most other import brands of scan tools. Take your pick between the two. They are basically direct competitors. Pick the one YOU like the best. As for as I know, neither one of them has full TPMS capability unless you buy the MP808Z-TS which DOES have full TPMS ability, but you're also paying for it, too. Unless you are a full time shop doing tire work every day, having TPMS capability sounds nice but it really isn't worth the extra money.... especially if you are only working on your own car. How many times do you need to program new TPMS sensors on your own car? If you buy an Autel 808, just MAKE SURE to get one with the upgraded process, upgraded RAM, and upgraded operating system. Thanks for the question.

      So this model supposedly can, although I am not convinced they know of the pre-2006 difference in the TPMS Sensors.
      And it cant do the Zero Point Calibration that I require, which AUTEL "says" can do the Z.P.C.

      Both Autel and XTOOl have a system look-up features on their web sites to help you figure out which functions the different models of scan tools are capable of based on vehicle year/make/model. It's not 100% perfect, in fact it's FAR from 100% perfect..... and this is where the customer service people get their information to answer questions from potential customers like you. It's VERY common in the scan tool world to get WRONG information from customer support. And this is true with EVERY scan tool manufacturer.
      This is Autel's, look-up feature: www.auteltech.com/vehicle-coverage/coverage2
      This is XTOOLs look-up feature: www.xtooltech.com/english/FunctionQuery.html
      Give it a try for yourself and then you'll see why you are getting mixed (questionable) information/answers from customer support.
      Also, please keep in mind, some things just are NOT possible. Regardless of scan tool brand. If the manufacturer did NOT program a certain function into the vehicle computer from the factory, then there is NO scan tool on earth that can command that function. You can not command something that doesn't exist to begin with. 2004 cars are VERY primitive in their computer programming compared to today's cars. Don't expect to have today's functionality on a 19 year old car. Keep in mind, scan tools don't do anything by themselves. There is no magic in scan tools. Scan tools only command functions that the auto manufacturer has already programmed into the vehicle from day one.
      My guess is this.... all decent bidirectional scan tools will be able to perform your Zero calibration..... but it will take a dedicated TPMS tool to work with your TPMS sensors..... And neither the MK808BT Pro or the IP819 are dedicated TPMS tools. In my opinion, if you have an MK808BT Pro already sitting at home, pull it out and give it a try. You can still return it to amazon (if that is where you bought it from) if you tried it and decided you didn't like it. Trying to split hairs when you already have an EXCELLENT scan tool in your house isn't really going to gain much for you. Of course, I am biased because Autel IS my favorite brand of scan tool but that's just me. (Actually, my new favorite is OTOFIX which is made and sold by Autel but has twice the free update period and is priced cheaper but that is a different topic)
      I don't know anything about the TPMS system in your 2004 Lexus...... however, in my opinion, you could probably have the scan tool of your choice AND a dedicated TPMS tool for the price of having full TPMS capability built into a scan tool. An Autel MK808BT Pro along with an Autel TS508 might be what you need??? I do know one thing for sure, you will not find a scan tool that has full TPMS capabilities built into it for the same price as a standard non TPMS scan tool. You WILL pay for it one way or another. You can either buy a Scan tool AND a separate TMPS tool like the TS508, or you can buy a scan tool WITH TPMS capabilities built-in..... either way, they make you pay for that capability.
      Disclaimer: I don't do any tire work. I have 8 tire dealers within a mile of my house and I know the guys who work at all of them. Accurately answering TPMS questions is NOT my forte.... especially on 2004 model year vehicles which were made 3 years before TPMS system were federally mandated. These early TPMS system can be very tricky to work with since they were not required by law and there really wasn't any industry standards put into pace yet. At this point in time, every manufacturer was experimenting and they all had their own ideas.
      It might be cheaper to have a local tire shop fix your TPMS sensors instead of the Lexus dealer. Or, maybe upgrade the sensors themselves to (cheaper) more modern sensors? (if that is even possible? I know it is on some older vehicles) Either way, for $800 bucks, that has to include more than just labor? Buy the sensors yourself and have the local tire shop put them in for you. ALL tire shops are capable of doing this work on pretty much any car. Anyway, just a few thoughts...

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад +3

      All vehicles sold inside the united states from 1996 and newer are required by federal law to use the same data port plug design, which is one of the requirements of the OBD2 protocol. Those adapters are for older OBD1 systems before everything became standardized. Back when everything was OBD1, every make of vehicle had their own data plug design and their own software protocol. It was a mess! It's also possible that vehicles sold today in different parts of the world do not use the USA mandated OBD2 port so those adapters might also work on those cars. It's been almost 30 years since OBD2 was mandated here in the USA so those adapters are pretty much useless here in the US today. The return policy of Amazon is as great as its always been. I do not recommend buying and returning multiple scan tools just to "try them out" but if you get one that you do not like, or that is defective, then yes, Amazon will accept returns like they normally do. That is also a MAJOR reason why I do NOT recommend buying a scan tool form any one of the many foreign websites that sell scan tools for a few dollars less than Amazon. If you buy from one of those foreign sites, you're pretty much stuck with that tool even if it's defective. Thanks for the question and compliment!

      Most scan tools have the ability to show basic TPMS data from the PCM in the car. Which is probably what you're seeing. However, if you want to actually program TPMS sensors and have full control of the TPMS system, then you either need to buy a dedicated stand alone TPMS tool, such as the Autel TS-508, or the Autel TS-608...... However, if you want to have that full TPMS capability built into your scan tool then you can buy the Autel MP808Z-TS, which is a complete scan tool AND a TPMS tool built into one tool. No scanner lose bidirectional control if you decided not to renew your subscription. Not even Autel. Who told you that? Sure, it's possible that THE VEHICLE you're working on requires the scan tool to have access to the cloud for the bidirectional controls to work properly..... which then does requires a current subscription.... but that is NOT the scan tool's fault. It's the vehicles fault for requiring all that extra nonsense. I have a 2019 Autel MK908 that has never been updated after the first year and it performs ALL bidirectional controls perfectly on all the older models of vehicles. What you're asking about, there is no way around it. The video will be live on RUclips this coming Sunday morning at 10am central US time. (six days from time of this writing) This is the first time I have used an OTOFIX tool and I can honestly say this thing is awesome! It does everything the 808 in this video does so I'm not sure why they call it "lite". I haven't ran across any features or function that it does NOT have compared to the 808 series. I have said in several of my past videos that Autel is my favorite scan tool brand..... However, this OTOFIX with it's Autel software (OTOFIX is actually owned by Autel) is now at the top of my list of favorites. The hardware is cheaper, the updates are cheaper, and the free update period is two years instead of one. There really is no down side to the OTOFIX tool. I am also reviewing the OTOFIX BT1 Lite stand alone battery tester device that is used in conjunction with the scan tool. Autel sells this same battery tester, the Autel BT506. The secret is.... the OTOFIX tester is sold for less than half price of the Autel version (as of today as I type this, anyway) and it works great with both the OTOFIX and Autel scan tools. It produces a printable battery health report that can be shared multiple ways, including QR code via Autel cloud service. (no extra charge) This way, your customer (if you have customers) can scan the screen of your scan tool with their camera app and the battery report will appear on the screen of their cell phone. The Autel 808 series of scan tools is VERY confusing. A lot of that has to do with old marketing materials that are still on the internet AFTER the July 1st 2022 update last summer. The 808s on the market today are all very similar. Pick one that fits your needs and buy it. Do you want built-in TPMS capability? Do you want a wireless bluetooth connection to the vehicle, or will a wired connection be fine for you? And lastly, do you care if it has the modern hardware and operating system, or is the old hardware and software version good enough. Those are pretty much the only decisions you need to make when it comes to an Autel 808. The 808 in this video has a bluetooth connection, it has the modern hardware and software (operating system) but it does NOT have built-in TPMS capability. This is the one that I would buy if I was looking for a new Autel today. Thanks for the comment.

      @@SlipFitGarage so my question is...will the tpms be neccessary?....and also.....with this particular model....did it give you the option to either run it wired or wireless?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  Год назад

      @@bumbist In my opinion, a person only really needs TPMS ability if you plan to do a lot of tire work. I sens all my tire work out to another shop so TPMS doesn't really excite me. I have no idea what type of work you plan to do so I can't tell you if it is necessary. That is for you to decide..... And the WIRED version is ONLY wired. The wireless version (like in this video) allows you to connect a USB cable between the wireless bluetooth OBD2 dongle (VCI) and the scan tool for a wired connection if need be.

    How I can check that if I was sent the Old Hardware or New Hardware?

    • @SlipFitGarage
      @SlipFitGarage  9 месяцев назад

      Which model did you buy? The 808 scan tools with the updated hardware do not share the same model name as the 808 scan tools with older hardware. Also, you should be able to look in the android setting> About> and look for operating system version and details about ram and storage. Thanks for the question

      You can see the specs for your model here on the Autel website:
      www.autel.com/mk2/3228.jhtml
      That particular scan tool model "MK808BT" is an older model. I did a video review of that same tool back in September of 2018. Of couse, my video was made long before the major Autel update that was released on June 1st of last summer that gave all 808 scan tools bidirectional control.
      This is a link to my MK808BT video from 2018:

      @@SlipFitGarage anyway you can see it yourself from the device itself, which hardware it has.

      Are you a full time professional mechanic? Or just a casual DIYer? What kind of vehicles do you typically work on? How often do you plan to use the scan tool? What are your basic needs? Do you perform tire (TPMS) work? Do you do ADAS calibrations? Are you looking to program new modules? Are you a locksmith looking to program vehicles to accept new keys, or program keys themselves? It's really hard to make a suggestion to a complete stranger when I have no idea what your needs are?

    I have it its not full bidirectional half bidirectional only

      @SlipFitGarage  5 месяцев назад

      Please explain what you mean..... When did you buy your 808? All Autel 808 scan tools received a major update on July 1st, 2022 that gave them all bidirectional control. Every 808 sold after that point comes from the factory with full bidirectional control, including the one in this video. Older 808 scan tools, that are no longer receiving updates, may still be partially bidirectional, but all the new ones come with full bidirectional software from the factory.

      You can write the vin on some modules, on some vehicles but I can't say for 100% certainty on your specific vehicle. You could try this feature on the Autel website, or send them an email and ask them directly.

      Thanks.
