I started watching your series on running. I used to run when I was in my 20s. I’ve been lifting for 3 years now and recently I picked up running 2 to 3 days a week. I started a mile at 11 minutes and with some of the tips I got from your channel. I am happy to say I got a PR at 7.00 minutes today. I am super empowered thanks for the tips
I got goosebumps! Finally, my feelings put into words. I was training for a triatholon for the first time in my life and I loved the process. But as the race started getting closer, I started losing motivation and starting skipping out on training. After race day, I completely stopped working out. And now I understand why. So thank you for sharing your experience!

I just started the Maffetone Method and I dang near have to walk to maintain my HR. 😂 But I’m 9 months post baby #5 and down 40lbs. Weight training and running gives me life. Nice work on that PR strong, strong friend! ❤
My MAF training was like 50/50 jog/walk when I started and after six months shifted to become maybe 75/25 jog/walk. But it does make a difference. Back then five miles for me is long and now I'm doing 18 mile long runs and they are shockingly easy!!! Stick with it!
Hell yeah, dude! So fast so strong! Also we see you being vulnerable and real, so much respect for your compassion for and patience with yourself. And yes SAME I live for the preparation and training. The ~thing~ gets less shiny and mythical the closer I get to it.
Love that you are being honest about losing steam. The mental preparation for disappointment, novelty that wears off and long term thinking is a big part of sport and training. It is really not talked about enough. You did amazing in the training for the ACFT. It is okay if you want to move on to something else and there is no shame in it. If it makes you happy and keeps you engaged in training that is what matters.
As someone who use to weight lift and switched to running primarily its AMAZING what you can accomplish in short time with running if you stay focused and dedicate yourself like you did! Rockstar baby!
Have loved this series/challenge and appreciate these types of videos where you are chatting us through how you're feeling etc...and yes I also feel the same before a race (trained and ran my first trail half marathon in June!)
Totally get your vibe girl. I agree, the process of training for a challenge is exciting because you get to prove yourself how strong you are, but when the end goal comes it just doesn't feel the same. Think about this though, once you complete the BIG challenge one day you can say "yeah I've done that before" and not vicariously have the experience but you get to own your experience because you crossed the finish line. I think it's a gift you get enjoy the journey of fitness and the goals accomplished that come your way are just another turn but the journey is endless.
I'm curently running SBTD and training for a half marathon in about a month and I'm with you--every week that passes I lower my expectations for the race because I'm afraid I won't reach my goal. I've been running a few years now and have enjoyed using low-heartrate running in the past. It's so wonderful if you also lift, because it doesn't feel like it further taxes your body. In fact, it often helps my legs loosen up after squat days. As a plus, the new apple watch OS added a screen when using the running activity to see what zone you're in!
the maff method made me think about my warm ups. and how its very low intensity and short periods of time but after a fews months ill always notice how much easier it is to do.
I just completed a 12 week 5k training plan and I was losing steam around week 9. I love running but it felt like less of a choice when I got closer to the last day. Plus my feet and ankles really started to hurt. I got new shoes and I have taken 2 weeks off from running but they're not getting better. I'm excited to start another running program with the Before the Barbell program though. Just gotta figure out my feet. I'm super impressed you shaved off so much of your mile time!!
This helped a lot. My lifetime was 8ish minutes in HS, and now I feel the need to aim for 7 mins. I was def doing the "run faster", so going to change my running training style.
Excellent video! The MAF method is quite foundationally important- a really cool #nextlevel way to approach the base aerobic capillary adaptation is using nose breathing (I HIGHLY recommend trying nose strips and trying the nasal breathing technique while running at a base pace- it’s like altitude training).
This video is awesome! Keep grinding! Question for you... have you ever used Next Level Diet? I got a custom fat-loss meal plan from them and it's really working for me.
I haven't followed all of the videos in this series, but the ones I've seen are so fun. I love/hate running and did cross country in high school. Do it here and there but definitely want to up it again. 💕

We had to run mile trials for high school soccer and my lifetime pr at 16 was 5:50, I think I'd be lucky to break 7 now. Seeing this makes me kinda wanna get back on the track.
MAF training is **very** tedious day-to-day but it does absolutely work. You'll barely notice differences across weeks but across six months you'll see a big change. By then, you'll be all kinds of ready to run fast again and see what you can do!
Watching these got me to get back to running - downloaded NRC and am doing a 5K prep (for an imaginary 5K lol). Definitely interesting balancing it with my lifting.
You're going to do great 😄 and no matter what happens you've improved your fitness coming back from all the post natal things youve been going through. That's huge! Maffeton training method is incredible for building. I run 90% of my runs in zone 2-3. My fast runs are FASTER because of the slow runs. Its really wild and kind of a mind F but it works!
I've been lifting all my life started running during lockdown did 5k all out each week made steady progress ,then started easy running my 5k improved 3x quicker
Perhaps it is knowing the end to your current journey is coming to an end. Making you feel like your disappointed, but it's closer to sadness knowing your goal is completed.
Definitely relate. Getting closer to events is when I lose steam as well It's hard but we put all the work in to get some sort of benefit. I tend to look at the other side - like what will I do once I master this skill or complete this event? Will I get to change my focus? Will I do something more preferable? By doing that it gives me something to look forward to and gives me a reason to continue. "if I do ___, then it gets me closer to ___" You got this 🎉

Could it be that by you losing steam, you mean you’re losing the excitement or motivation? when we set new goals or are on new adventures, we’re motivated and excited. I run long distance with MAFF training for 80% of my runs. Heat and elevation will spike your heart rate. As long as your ego is ok with lots of walking....lol it's a good training method for amateur runners
I seen a movie called Transformer about a former powerlifter transitioning and I seen Megsquats liking a few of the former powerlifter pictures on the movie. Janae is her name now.
I really relate to the feeling when you get close to your end goal 😅 I feel like I even go into some small self sabotage so that if I "fail" or don't do as good as I know I could, I have an excuse that I didn't do absolutely everything I could so it's ok... So silly, and annoying

my PR mile at 40 was under 10min.I’m post pandemic and i’m at 15min.I got off meat and i’m going to try and get my 5 mile under 1 hour

I always start to disconnect from the event when it gets close because I get nervous. I can completely relate to what you're saying.
