For a few videos now, I've wondered why you weren't securing the lid. Started thinking the same here, then Mr. Pack Rat came along. At least this wasn't an antique.
Back about a year ago or so I caught a mouse in the Victor Quick Set trap and it was unharmed. I woke up and checked the trap and he just laid there in it, so I grabbed the trap and the mouse started moving. The trap managed to get him by the neck and I don't understand how he survived, but he did. I put him in an empty ice cream container with holes in the lid so it didn't suffocate, put a little food in with it ( sunflower seeds), and went on a long hike out into the woods to give him a new home. If he survived the trap, he earned his second chance at life. When I came home, I promptly threw that piece of trash trap away and went back to the good, old-fashioned snap trap.
I was wondering also, have you ever found any of your stolen traps? I have been using the old wood base victor traps for decades, and I have recovered several of them while clearing out thickets in the back yard.

Pack rats are so much fun. My aunt lost her wedding ring. She had taken it off to do dishes and it just disappeared. It was insured, so it was replaced. 10 years later my uncle took apart the old chicken coop and found the ring up in the ceiling.

I have some foreign made plastic traps that are extremely similar to these plastic Victor Safe Set & Quick Set traps. The traps I have do have metal "teeth" built into the trap where they contact the pest. When they clamp down they are extremely effective and seem to more quickly finish the pests than the traps in this video, yet they still are safer than traditional snap traps. I've used them for outdoor pests as well and they have been great. Wow, rto watchinterestingand informative

I have a very simple live mousetrap: you just need a glass bowl, and a metal disc/washer (ca. 30 mm), a peanut and some glue. - I glue the peanut to the inside edge of the bowl, turn it over and support it with the metal washer. If the mouse goes under the bowl, it will nibble on the peanut and the bowl and disc will fall over and the mouse will be trapped. Always works very well.
I’ve been saying for weeks that your weak lid game was going to cost you. I’m glad you learned the lesson with the inexpensive trap, though, and not one of your expensive ones.
I glue all my wood base traps to a piece of wood 3/4” 4”X6” so leg catches can’t drag them away so you can’t reach them! And I only buy victor traps with plastic trigger!

I like trying new traps and recently was working in a restaurant and walked upon a giant rat trapped in one of those victor easy set .. it was huge and dead ..
Maybe should bring back the deadfall traps for those pesky rats! No way out for them.. 💪🏽 It was those traps that got me interested in your channel however many years ago that was. 👏🏽

You must admit that the pack rat was quite clever and SO funny! Sorry you lost a trap Shawn, but thanks to the pack rat for the entertainment! I had a pet rat once that was so funny and curious like that.
The nine magenta blobs are mice surrounding the one trap, not huge blood drops. Their pointed parts are the noses, the way a cat's toy would be designed, which is probably the child's reference. (I used to teach art to kids)

It would be cool to put a tracker on the trap and find out where the rat takes it.
You could put a one way door on that enclosure you built and catch no telling how many at one time.

I'm constantly fighting the rats in my backyard and garden. They're crazy smart. Pretty sure they're escapees from NIMH. Looks like you got the same!

Set up a trap feeding station and deactivate the traps. Feed the rats for a week and pull a switcheroo on them.

I knew that was going to happen with the lid.
I used to use the victor quick snap. They didnt work 1/2 the time. Went back to the conventional snap trap. The cheap ones usually work the best.

Definitely one to stay away from for me, was far from the quick clean kill you'd hope for.
