The cost of living is relatively cheap especially if you compare it to America, My dad retired in Thailand and I plan to do the same, the atmosphere can be whatever you want it to be. there are cities that fit every type of lifestyle you want to live, be it a party dog or a family man. Thai woman are hardworking and beautiful and the islands are to die for.

I am Thai. I studied in Thailand and overseas. I lived and worked half of my life outside Thailand for MNCs. Now, I am planning to go back to Thailand to be with my family and find ways to contribute to the country. I guess life comes full circle for me. I can understand sentiments of these young people and respect their choices. Going to another country to grow yourself and improve life opportunities are not a bad idea. To me, Thailand is still the country I want to live in for the rest of my life and a place I always call home.

@@sun_s9067 retire...yea sure if you're wealthy. No pension system in Thailand. Kids are the pension for parents 🤦🏻♂️In case you receive pension from abroad then you're fine but I doubt that as a Thai. Old foreigners do that when they come to Thailand.
I am a Thai who lived in Japan for 5 years. Believe me, it's not what you see from outside: even if you work in the same organization as them, you will still be seen as an outsider and treated differently, especially if you are from a country deemed inferior like Thailand. Trust me, just go to Japan for tourism, don't live there long term.

This is a kind of unpopular opinion that I have too. I told my friends this and most of them wouldn't believe me. Japan is most culture-shocked country for me. lol I lived there for one and a half year, my gf is Japanese and I can confirm that. This country is really hard to live in especially if your origin is Thailand or some countries that live is easy.
man what do you expect? ive seen china make the same arguement and many asians claiming racism etc every time they complain in Australia but wait a minute Australia lets them live there and lets foriegners get Australian passports but when i go to ANY other asian country being a western white guy i have no rights whatsoever, ill never win with the police , i cant buy land , ill never get there passports no matter how perfect my language is , you complain about Japan they protect there own race but THERE exactly the same as Thailand, do you ever see a THAI person that DOESNT look thai and cant speak thai that has a thai ID card and passport?? NEVER,,,, so you ever see people in Australia and America that dont look Aussie or American and cant even speak english walk around with there passport? all the time Australia lets the other country destroy its own culture and change it, Japan protects there own country form foriegn influence you should say thankyou for that , because if they didnt then you might go to Japan one day and only half the people can speak fluent japanese and you will be confused just like I am in Australia when people cant even understand a simple question with an Australian accent in your own country ..
Couldn't agree more. I'm Asian and can speak Japansese (so I blend in), but Japanese people still consider me as not "one of them", which is fine as long as it doesn't bother you, but yes, people shouldn't expect to be welcomed with open arms into their society.
Im thai and i think YOU should also interview people in rural as well and not just bangkok only because the standard of living in completely different depends on where you live.

You Right! People from other age group can have different work ethics too. From my experience thai young generation are less likely to take jobs that require physical labors.(not say that they lazy, they just prefer something els)

i mean… did she have any slight idea that japan have one of the worst toxic work culture where people work to death with little to no personal life at all?. Did she really think her life gonna better there? I not say that thai labor system is perfect but when compared to japan, thailand work/life balance is far far better.

เริดมากครับ แล้ว ถามเด็กนักศึกษา ในหัวเค้าก็มีแต่ 300 บาทต่อวันๆๆ ท่องเป็นนกแก้ว ดูโลกเค้ายังเล็กมาก ไม่มองกาลไกลเลยเพราะ ไม่เคยทำงานในชีวิตจริง เช่นงาน โรงแรม อายุงาน 5-10. ปี หลายคนก็ไป 40,000-100,000แล้ว ไม่รวม service charge นี่ยังไม่พูดถึงงารมือโปร พวก เซล บัญชี IT law หรือพวก สายวิศวะ สายวิทย์ คณิตศาสตร์ประกันภัย นั่น start 50,000 ขอโทษ คนรอบตัวหลายคน อายุ33-38 ได้ 150k+ เยอะมาก และไม่เห็นใช้ เส้นสาย อะไรสักคน ฝีมือล้วนๆ
ชอบมากเลยครับ คุนพูดได้โดนใจมากๆ

I'm half Thai and, after spending my whole life in London, am finally moving to Thailand. It's fascinating to hear people in Bangkok speaking about how it's impossible to afford life in the capital. Exact same issue many percieve here in London. Rent is absolutely insane and owning a house is a pipe dream. On both sides, it's so easy to overlook what you already have where you are. Love to the beautiful people of both countries and both cities 🇬🇧🇹🇭
They will fly back to Thailand after 3 months.😂
Its the same issue in every densely populated city. The advantage to working in London, Tokyo, Sydney, New York for Thais is that although expenses will be higher, roughly scaling with the higher income, and the proportion of monthly savings to income will be roughly the same, that savings will go a very long way once they decide to return to THailand for retirement. That is the key.

@@jomontanee I think both you and @node are correct. What's going to happen in the future is, those no-planed youngster will eventually get a job overseas. After they are able to stand firmly on their feet, they will start to save, and send portion of their earnings back to their love ones in Thailand.
@@jomontaneeNah don’t think they have no plan. It’s easy for us to say they don’t plan their future ahead but we need to be realistic that the chance those plan will work is small to none. Majority of them living in Bangkok graduated from universities but still earn less than ฿15,000. Fair they can just about to survive with that but they have no savings. So they just basically live day by day just to work for another day to survive. It’s hard for them to push themselves up to a better standard and develop themselves when they weren’t born with silver spoons in their mouths in the first place. The rich will continue to be rich and poor will continue to be poor. The people’s living cycle will continue to be like this until they decide to change the way their country operate. Only a few poor people that try hard and lucky enough to be successful.
You should also ask people who has been studied or worked abroad why they come back to Thailand.
Cuz they cant get permanent resident card
I would go back to Thailand for food, friends family, cultural, and nature people and places

Living in Thailand is the best, if you have enough money, like the tourists from developed countries or the rich. But for the locals, it has been getting hard here. For example, in the current rice harvest season, the inflation is high, but the rice’s price is very low. It is a really hard situation for the farmers which are one of the main populations in Thailand. Low price of agricultural products is good for exporters or tourism, but the farmers may not think so.

Hard living situation not only applies to Thailand, it is all over the world. Even in America, people become more desperate then ever and they’ll do anything to survive. Being homeless in Thailand is better then being homeless in America.
@@mixalis6168 Yes, of course, I'm not a rice farmer, but my grandparents are. They did a lot to prevent their successors becoming farmers due to poverty and unfairness and I can appreciate it. If l were a farmer, it would be rare to make an expression and discussion with the world like this, right?
The situation of rice farmers’ living is improving from time to time, but if they can have better opportunity, it is reasonable for changes. Cost of living in Thailand, comparing to average income of Thai people is also inappropriate and worsening. This situation happens all over the world, and they are debating and finding a solution, but for Thai people, the solution is obscure.
Living or working aboard is more difficult, but as a working generation, not a retired one, it is one of reasonable ways for them, as you can see in the clip.
I'm Thai and currently live in GC, Australia now as an employee. I love the video, it truly reflects how many Young Thais want to live in Thailand would like to move out at some point in their life. (totally related to that). One point I'd believe worth sharing is Young Thais people knew what they do. Some comments might say "Hey, you don't know how hard it is to live in Western or developed country.", trust me they've reached in a harder position while living in motherland.
6 years ago after my graduation, my salary starts at 15kTHB per month, noodle is 40THB per bowl. I speak 3 languages fluently(Thai, English, Mandarin), graduated from international uni, a ton of activities profile, plus proven sales record(I did side hustle). Later I got the job in one of the biggest company in Thailand, making 7 figures for company annually, work from 8am to sometimes 12pm at night no weekends life, 5 years straight. As a result, my salary increases only 2-3% annually with small bonus and "Thank you" as a reward at year end party. Oh and btw noodle now is 50THB up with smaller portion. (In grab it is 70-100 THB upwards)
People complain about living abroad because of tax, inflation and rental. I totally get that. But would you agree that earning more allow you to have a room to save and invest more rather than earn less every single year because of inflation and no chance to earn more because of social structure?
Some people I knew earns 15k -25k THB per month with 5-10 years of experience in a middle to high skill job.
Look, I'm not fantasize living in Australia or Western country. The food here is expensive and not taste as good as in Thailand. Discrimination and racism still happens. Healthcare system can't be compare to Thailand. Reparing things is damn expensive here.
And so much more.
The question is " What choice do Young Thai have?"
If you are foreigner living in Thailand or you are Thai living aboard and want to move back, surely you'd love it. You have money or you have a business or job that allows you to earn more. But What if you don't? Will you still consider living in Thailand in long-term?
Sorry for long ranting, but I just don't understand Thai or foreigner people who said that Young Thais don't understand the value of what we have in home country. Of course, they knew but what choice do they have?

As Thai and a former UK student, the reasons why I'm back to Thailand are because of better healthcare (I had some conditions at that time), and my family members that live here. Nonetheless, it is totally understandable why young Thai people tends to explore new oppotunities overseas.

But for those who curse only their home country, they must try to meet other countries' society. with the same skills that you have,If you are good enough, you can live anywhere in the world and Thailand Iis one of the easiest countries in the world to live in.

Singaporean here. There’s much to admire about Thai people, culture, history and the beauty of their land. The reasons for the educated young wanting to leave Thailand is valid and real. It doesn’t necessarily mean forsaking Thailand but bringing back knowledge to help improve the economy and people’s lives years later. One cannot expect ideologies outside of Thailand to be imposed like a mold. Afterall Thailand has a long, rich and deep history and culture on its own since it was not colonised by the West like its neighbouring countries. Thailand needs a Thai who deeply appreciates and understands the Thai uniqueness, combined with knowledge of foreign ideologies, skill and resilience to introduce applicable bits to bring the country to the next level. Of course all this is easier said than done. I wish Thai people all the very best. Don’t lose yourself in the midst of influence from foreign ideologies. Please continue to love your country and your people.

As a westerner, I agree that western influence & "woke" culture today is highly toxic to society, the economy, and a country. Reject it or it'll destroy you. Stay real.

I met a lot of Thai exchange students in Germany. They are enjoying their time here for sure, travelling around and making friends. Some even extend their stay and find work for a while or apply for a PhD program. But life here in Germany is hard. The daily life in Germany is a struggle. I can imagine that it isn't easy to cope with our daily life efficiency and customer unfriendly services. So the Thai students and scientists that I know, are always happy to go back to Thailand, because in the end they prefer life there. They say that life in Thailand is just way more chill and enjoyable. Can't speak for everyone from Thailand of course. But thats just from my experience.

It is so true. I live here myself in Germany. Ofcourse infrastructure and all are a lot better here but I always find something missing here. I definitely go back to Thailand when I can.
They have to learn when they are young. It’s good for them to experience the world then they can make their best choices that suit them
Im from Sweden and can relate somewhat. A think that a good society could be achived if it was possible to mix Germans productivity an efficiency with Thailand's more human/family oriented society.

@@arabianrichguy9828 don't worry - they'll all come back. Hi-so Thais send their kids off to foreign countries to get superior degrees. These kids return to Thailand with a degree that's Internationally recognized, critical thinking and if they were smart, they connected with other hiso kids abroad. Right from the getgo, the upper-class maintains their advantage over those who can't travel outside of Thailand and pursue a better curriculum and business network.
I wanted to go aboard when I finished my Uni. It wasn’t because I didn’t like Thailand, I just wanted to explore the world.
20 years on I’m now in my 40s and realise that.. I have to go home. I have learned the world and made comparison then it comes to my mind that oversea is not for me. It doesn’t suit my way of life I prefer. I am happy to say I am now going home for good. If any young ones want to have experience outside the country you should ! If you don’t try you don’t know. Just one thing don’t say you hate Thailand too soon you might regret it.

I feel like the main reason many younger generation want to move out is because a problem that is deep in a root of this country. Mainly it is the public sector. It's rotten deep to it's core. Whether it the organization, system, personel, anything related to public sector is extremely rotten. A few years ago these young ppl want to change it by protesting and failed. So now they just give up and move to other countries instead.
An obvious example would be news about corruption in public sector that can be seen in news/social media daily(some of them are huge like 100 milllions+++ baht and imagine this huge news about twice every month) and even with obvious proof they just dgaf about it bc they are all corrupted and they help each other. So younger generations are like "I'm done" and just want to leave.
As I am Thai living abroad. Thailand is the best place to live.

Sure...with no pension system kids are cursed to pay parents if they want them live decently. Meanwhile kids don't have the money for them and they create debts over debts waiting for their children to pay for them. It's a circle that makes the system rotten from the basis. Best place yes...🤦🏻♂️

Great video. The young lady that said sometimes Thai people can be “ruthless” to each other, I couldn’t agree more. Living in a small village for several years now, I often see that side of “The Land of Smiles”. Your video is a good reminder that even “good jobs” here don’t pay all that much compared to cost of living, etc.
"Ruthless" in the rural area where people are generally more nice and kind than people in the Cities is NO more gossiping. People gossip everywhere we go even in your country I can promise that. Largest cities in a country often have disproportionately high costs of living that are really hard on young people. I was born in Thailand but came to the U.S. in the 80’s and then came back here again in the 90’s when I was 17. I’ve lived in the U.S. all my life, and I’ve always wanted to go visit Thailand again. Love the country! I think Thailand is not bad but could be better.
As an American (born and raised), the issue of wages to the constant rise of cost of living is also a problem here, and I live in one of the more affordable states. If you couple that with the idea that you need higher education to get ahead and get paid more (in many professions, you actually don't. Proper training and certification is generally enough.) with the absurd cost of higher education you end up stuck in your current situation, which is a problem for many Americans. So the grass isn't always greener on the other side, even if it appears so. But in terms of going to another country to gain professional and/or life experience, I think that's a good idea for anyone regardless of where you're from if you're able to make that happen.
Asking undergraduate students about jobs and wage is naive. They dont have experience and all they know is 300 baht a day(9000 baht a month) repeatitively in circle. In real professional career life, when they got 5-15 year experience , they can earn up to 50,000-200,000 baht easily and they can live well-luxurious life with that. Many people I know earn 70,000-200,000 when they are 33-38 year old.

- Even Khmer beggars in Thailand earn nearly 100,000 baht/month. Chinese people who came to work in Thailand 100 years ago are all rich now. If you are still poor, blame yourself.
- My friend in America and my cousin in Canada earn 10 times as much as me but they drive Camry like me. They don't have any Benz because the house price in America and Canada are very expensive.
- Thailand's public transport system is not bad. In the next 2 years, Bangkok's metro lines will be about the same distance as Tokyo.
- There is a communist party in Thailand trying to use the issue of minimum wage to provoke Thai young people to change the government to communism. It is expected that the manipulator behind is A+V countries.

I worked in Thailand before moving to Germany due Marriage. I though living abroad would be offer me more opportunities to grow up. After moving here, I wasting my time for 3 years investing on language skill, and throw over 100 time my resume to get a jobs. But Tax is high, bills is getting higher. Inflation makes life harder. I miss life in Thailand. My daily life is just to work and sleep. By the way. I still encourage new gen to go abroad to get their eyesight wider. At the end, I will spend the rest of my life in Thailand.

At least you only work 8 hours here. The work life balance is much better in Germany than in Thailand.
I wonder if you have a relationship with a German guy. If so, 2 income should be MORE than enough to easily enjoy life. My little brother and his gf both work 4 days a week and have plenty of free time. And PLENTY of money because of 2 incomes. And many days off. And me myself as a Dutch guy i work fulltime, but also have plenty of free time. And more than enough money. I have zero financial problems at all. As a single person i own a 5 bedroom house, drive a paid off Tesla. I don't know but my income isn't even that great. It's easy to get around in Netherlands/Germany/Denmark/Norway etc. I don't understand how people think its difficult.
Me too. I’m in the same boat. It took me 10 years to make a decision to move here in Canada and after all my hard work I’m now a dual citizen but it’s not easy to live here; food, weather, cost of living, and everything affect your daily life, let alone politics. Not really. Immigration is for adabtive people. Many thai immigrants in first world countries would rather stay there than going back due to appropiate income, laws, etc.

I feel for young Thai people. Hope and pray for something to happen for the good of Thai people and the country. I left Thailand for US when I was 22 years old. I am retiring and planning to return to Thailand next year. I am planning to use what I have ( knowledge, experience, money ect. ) to help my country during the last chapter of my life.

ในฐานะคนไทยคนหนึ่ง...สนันสนุนให้ไปครับ ไปลองใช้ชีวิต ไปทำงานพาร์ทไทม์ที่บางคนอยู่ไทยก็ไม่เคยคิดจะทำ เช่น เสิร์ฟอาหาร รับจ้างต่างๆ ขายของที่ร้าน ไปดูความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมและการทำงาน เพราะพอเราไปถึงจะเป็นพลเมืองชั้น2 ทันทีต้องเข้าคอร์สเรียนภาษาและวัฒนธรรมของประเทศเขาก่อน และต้องขยันเป็นสองเท่าจากปกติ ชีวิตมันไม่ได้โรยด้วยกลีบกุหลาบเสมอไป ไปลองเปิดโลกทัศน์ใหม่ๆ ดูความรับผิดชอบต่อหน้าที่พลเมืองของประเทศเขา แล้วจะรู้ถึงความแตกต่างกันของทั้งสองประเทศที่น้องๆอยากไปใช้ชีวิตดู เกิดมาแค่ครั้งเดียว ทำเถอะครับ ขอแค่ขยันรับทำงานทุกอย่างที่ได้เงินและก็เก็บไว้บ้าง เพราะภาษีสูงพอตัว ใช้จ่ายอย่างระมัดระวัง ก็มีเหลือใช้ครับ ถ้าไปได้หรือไม่ไหวก็แค่กลับมา ถือว่าเป็นประสบการณ์ของชีวิต ถ้าแก่แล้วมันจะสายเกินไปไปตอนที่ที่ยังมีไฟในการทำงานนี่แหละ..สนับสนุน..ส่วนตัวพี่ไปอยู่ประเทศในยุโรปแต่เป็นแค่ระยะสั้น ทุกประเทศก็มีข้อดีและเสียแตกต่างกันออกไป แต่โดยส่วนตัวแล้วสุดท้ายพี่ก็เลือกที่จะอยู่ที่ไทยและขยันทำงานเก็บเงิน ทำงานทุกอย่างที่ได้เงินแม้กระทั่งเสริฟพาร์ทไทม์ตามโรงแรมพี่ก็ทำไม่ปล่อยเวลาให้เสียเปล่า ยังไปรับจ๊อบหลังเลิกงานตอนเย็นและวันหยุดเสาร์อาทิตย์เป็นพนักงานขายบ้าง ดูแลบัญชีรายได้ให้กับร้านค้าบ้าง ไม่มีวันหยุด รายได้ก็แทบจะเท่ากับอยู่ประเทศพัฒนาแล้วเลยแต่ค่าใช้ต่ำกว่ามากและมีความสุขมากกว่าด้วยเพราะเรามีเงินเหลือใช้ ข้าวขอที่ไทยก็ไม่ได้แพงเวอร์ อยากกินอะไรก็ได้กินราคาสมเหตุสมผล ไม่ได้จ่ายภาษีโหดเหมือนทางเขา ส่วนตัวก็มีประกันชีวิตดีๆสักสองสามกรมธรรม์เอาไว้เวลาเจ็บป่วยรักษาตัวโรงพยาบาลเอกชนที่ดีๆ ซึ่งการรักษาพยาบาลและบริการนี้เองเป็นสิ่งที่ประเทศไทยทำได้แทบจะดีที่สุดในโลกเลย พบหมอเฉพาะทางก็ได้ตลอดเวลา แถมมีคลินิกนอกเวลาอีกมากมายทุกที่

I am from Indonesian and working at Thailand. I can feel Thai people. This is the same reason why I seek working overseas. People who have the opportunity to work overseas should take the chance. Don't worry about other people. You should do what's your heart tell you to do. If you think working overseas is not the right choice for you, you can always comes back to your homeland.

I am Thai and I live in Australia. In my opinion, Thailand is better to live if you earn enough income. But the majority of Thai citizen aren't earn enough to make a good fortune. Compare to where I live in Australia the minimum wages for the commoner is fair. We can afford whatever we need if we learn how to save but not for the wages in Thailand especially if you just graduate and start working in Bangkok. It really hard to make the good fortune. Good luck to everyone who want to go overseas. No pain no gain always true. :)

I (Australian) tried working in Bangkok and hated it for a number of reasons but saw that life was much harder for the Thais than me. I changed to a longer visa that permitted me to work online and live in Bangkok. I love living here, for the experiences and quality of life. I have found that Thai culture is unique and beautiful but it is impervious to a farrung couple.
I’m still stuck over here. It gives me hope to see Aussies who’ve escaped.
im also from Aus and tried that and think its insane for any foriegner to even atempt it its such a downgrade. Aus might be considered boring or isolated for some but when you think about it, everything and i mean EVERYTHING is worse in Thailand and ive been there since 2012. Traffic, pollution, Thai being unreliable with almost everything ( if you complain they ignore you or make up a story to cover it up) mafia outside every 4 plus hotel in partnership with hotel management that ignore it because there all getting paid. The sheer hypocritcy of Thailand and Thai people that claim they hate corruption , dont want others to look down on them yet will do unethical things every day and always have an excuse for it. The fact that guns are the only way to have any stability at all in Thailand says it all , not only will Thai scam foriegners and treat them like ATM machines but even Thai never trust Thai and will kill each other over and over again in every election because ummm thats what thai do when they lose or dont agree with someone. Along with Myarmar it would be the most uncivilized country on earth where saving face at the expense of other people is the NO 1 objective. You dont need a brain in thailand to win you just need connections and some army or police friends, funny how Thai will complain about army but will threated anyone with there army friends just to win at every oppurtunity. It belongs in the medievil ages and will never change. COME and wake me up when Thailand is a clean hard working high tech country like Japan , IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN
Another major issue (one of which made me decide to leave Thailand) that no one in the video talks about is the environmental issue such as the pollution issue (PM2.5) that has persisted for far too long.

They will never improve it though bangkok is an ugly city , almost no parks and gardens anywhere, people only care about ugly buildings everywhere and the traffic will only get worse just look at the victory monument area thats terrible at 6pm every day
Many often see things either through rose-colored glasses or jaded-glasses. Living/working abroad for many is special and an eye-opening experience. I feel grateful that I had those opportunities. It's always nice to be surrounded by family and friends especially as you grow older. For most of us life is not easy and is usually very challenging. It's those challenges that makes us who we are and how we deal with the setbacks.
I can relate to them. I’m from the Philippines but I move to the US, for similar reasons.

Thais’ are always asking me about how much foreigners make in their own country. But they never think about how much the rent, food and many other bills would be in America and Europe.
As a Thai, if you need just a small cheap car for living in outskirts. The Car payment is often more than 50% of First Jobber (Bachelor degrees salary). Trust me it is very hard when you make very little money (430 usd/month).

There have always been Thais who want to work abroad but typically they are only thinking about the money and have little or no idea what life would be like. Like many expats here, Thais tend to group together when living overseas, in my experience, especially those who are only there to study or work in places like Thai restaurants.
That said, I have always said I feel lucky and privileged being a Farang in Thailand and would not want to be Thai. As a foreigner who speaks Thai I have had great freedom and opportunity and my life is lived outside the restrictions of normal Thai society. It can be hard for Thais to be socially mobile or advance in this class structured society.

The problem is there are many farangs that hold some kinds of privilege being in Thai society but still want to do something that privately keep for only Thai citizen while they still dont wanna be a Thai citizen legally. Such as criticizing Thai monarchy, Thai politics, Thai gov ., etc. Outsider is just outsider. You guys earn some advantages from being a farang , it’s good. But it’s not good, whenever talking behind us is something that you love doing among Farang society. That’s really terrible.

It is so true to that it is almost impossible to establish yourself in Thailand from nothing. Though it may seem hard in other countries as well, there are still more chances than in Thailand. I don't blame these young people for wanting to leave but living overseas may not be the answer for everyone. I wish they could travel the world and find the answer for themselves which place works best for them.
First they need to change their attitude. Too dreamy and unreal.
It’s not true that they cannot establish themselves from nothing. I have seen many people who came from disadvantage families but succeeded in their lives. Good thing comes with hard working and good attitude (ready to adapt, ready to put all your effort) and that is true everywhere. The real question is do they have this quality yet?

As a Thai who once was working abroad, I may answer your question most Thai ppl have in mind about leaving the country and work in other countries for a while.
What they expect is to wider their experiences in career building and more money for their future and families.
When their plans are fulfilled, most of them will move back to their country later in life for they are the kind of close tie family relation and deep country attachment.
If they come to California they will realize the incredibly high cost of living and paycheck to paycheck way of life. It is impossible for many middle-class Americans to buy small homes now. This is a reality they cannot grasp. If they go to an "inexpensive" state they may have landed right in a deeply close-minded racist area and they will encounter firsthand the bigotry many African Americans and Mexicans and Hispanics dealt with for generations. Ofcourse even with these challenges Thai immigrants will still make vids and say "OMG my life in the USA is so amazing!!!" To get that clickbait.

I am Thai, and I have read so many comments like " I want to retire in Thailand ", It's okay since it's your personal choice, I don't want to argue to any personal point of views. But I haven't seen a single comment like " I want to grow up, educated, and working after graduated in Thailand " I think this is the real problem that some people ignore and act like there is no problem at all, People have to work before retire right? This is the truth, and I think It's okay for them to get dreamy about another countries, Everyone have the right to dream, dream to be better, dream to be successful. I see the conflicting comments occuring from different time-frame views and backgrounds, Moreover, I see people who have work their entire life both grow-up and work in Thailand untill 70 years old and still have to work, they don't have a change to think about retirement, While I see people who have opportunities to experience outside Thailand then dream about retirement in Thailand (or any other places in the worlds). All of these, I didn't talk about who is better at decision, smarter, or live their life better. I can't define people the proper life, I just want to point out something called "Possibility", One have many more choices to live with their hard-earn money, while the other one have no choice. Since I am talking about possibility, So there is no exact answers which is the best decision. I hope you agree and don't try to argue with me like "this situation happen everywhere", "I have experience and live in blah blah before, Thailand is the best", I feel you, that's the facts but also It's individuals and combine with your personals. If you have got 'a change' to 'do something' then failed to achieve your expectation, It's just your consequence and can't apply to the others. I appreciate how you share your past experience but not with the purpose to stop someone to dream. I encourage people to dream and do it, Once you achieve it you will know your own answer yourself.
And together with the monetary aspect the Farangs who want to retire never understand the old structured thai system that is putting so much burden on the people and that young ones hate and see as dinosaur world.

While a ton of foreigners wish to live in Thailand for the lifestyle their earnings allow there, thais wishing to leave Thailand seems to me like searching for more opportunites to make more money and get experiences.
Nothing wrong with that, but the cost of living in the west may reveal that inflation and higher living costs eats up a lot of the difference.
All ok, another factor to consider is loneliness and isolation. An acquaintance of mine was married to a Thai woman and she could not wait to leave Denmark for the 3 months every year she'd go to Thailand to be with the family, deeming life in Denmark extremely boring as nothing really happens in the evening on weekdays.
My theory is that Thais generally will be most happy in Thailand if they didn't have to struggle to make ends meet.

If you are skilful, you can get many opportunities and earn a lot even in Thailand. It's not about place or country, it's about self development.
I am currently a full time salaryman with moderate education, not from a rich family but I can earn enough for living and enjoy life happily in Bangkok.

As a native Thai born and bred who just acquired Australian citizenship (a week ago), have been living in Oz for 6 years, there are many challenges when migrating - new environment, new culture, new languages, new people, etc.
Considering Thai people that currently in “middle class” (e.g. studying/obtained Bachelor, average family income around 900k to 1m per annum, living with parents who own a house and a car/2 cars - something similar to the people in the video), these people will need to take much more effort to adjust to the life overseas as everything totally different in terms of lifestyle (clean your own house, cooking your own, do a house maintenance on your own, etc.)
Anyway, the pros of living here is that the society and industry tend to be open - they value on your actual skills, while in Thailand, they value on many things such as a degree from prestigious university, connections, and many other stuff.
Another benefit, obviously, money! In detail, the gap of income and wages are not that much, and it seems to be equally (e.g. with minimum wages, you can live with basic needed and bare minimum here and also have some remaining for saving. For people who prefer luxury lifestyle, they will need to looking for higher salary but that not necessary, it just about individual lifestyle), while in Thailand, as you know, 300 baht per day….hmm….all Thai people acknowledge together that with this amount, we cannot see any future.
The wages in Thailand needs to be adjusted to be relevant to the living costs.
Man middle class in Thailand is NO WAY 1 million baht a year not even close, i cant believe you say that when your thai yourself. The average salary in Thailand is around 20,000 baht month which is about 600 USD month. that is what a teacher or nurse gets in thailand. 40,000 baht would be extremely good and senior manager... the richest Thai i know were on 100,000 baht and they were senior engineer at those car companies in bang na like nissan and toyota. Id say 80 percent of all thai will be on less then 45, 000 baht month which is 600,000 baht a year not 1 million. They pay less then 45,000 to foriegner teachers in Isaan and there is is no way they would be getting less then middle class thai. Thai just love to waste money on save face, only thing important in Thailand is image not how smart you are or what you know, most of the money will be spend on the Salon getting plastic surgery and expensive hair cuts, and when you see Thailand how many of those shops there are you will understand why .....
Going back 18-24 months, I probably would have agreed with your comments re earning minimum wage in Australia and still being able to afford to save, but unfortunately that is not the case anymore due to rising inflation and stagnant wages. You're probably still better off in Australia, but much like many other western countries (the UK, Canada) the cost of living is becoming too high for low income earners. Even middle income earners are struggling (and don't get me started about the Australian property market LOL).

So as a Thai who as well want to move to any foreign country (Maybe Aus lol) I wanna ask about getting the citizenship there, how hard is it? you have to live and work there for a total 6 years right? are there any other requirements? Rn I've been studying in the UK for almost 5 months now and really like the people and lifestyle here but not the weather (it rains all the time lol) and its also too far from Thailand, so Aus might be a better option as it's also a majority white country. @@guffow6707 Hello! Unfortunately not an easy country to get citizenship. It all depends on your skill set (and points) or whether you're willing to study as an international student (even then, no guarantees your qualification will make you eligible). NZ is typically easier, and NZ'ders can live and work in Australia on a special visa indefinitely. It may be best to speak to a migration consultant as they can assist with the most suitable pathway for you. Hope that helps!
I live in NE Thailand and no one will work for 300 baht a day. 500 baht is the minimum anyone will accept.

The minimum wage is not applied to everybody. It depends. You have your own your choice. The food/energy crisis happen around the world. Other countries encounter more severe problem than Thailand.

Just go and see what life really is out there. Expand your knowledge. No one can hold you but you yourself. Mark your goal and make it happen.
Thailand is a great place to live as long as you have money to spend and feed yourself. If you’re Thai lower middle class and lack of family funding, it’s your tragedy to start your own life.
After I graduated from uni, I decided to left everything behind and moved to Australia with working visa. I lost almost everything in Thailand, like friends, companies, even my love, but I’ve never regretted about it, I now have a wonderful life in Sydney.
I’ll always willingly encourage everyone to take a risk to start a new life in abroad when they get a chance.
Don’t believe those thai walking morons who live outside Thailand and make psycho words like “there’s no place like home” that ruins your dream

@@toppz1008 What luck? The only luck I got is getting the first green card. Not only luck you need, determation is the the key to live in the first world countries. I fought for my second green card, university education, and well paid job to match the avg US GDP per capita. Once you achieve those, it's better to live here overall.
Honestly it depends where home is. For instance I wouldn't be so eager to get home if it was the Philippines for instance. But the main point of going abroad aside for employment/hobbies/partner is to get life experiences
I'd rather find much experience all across the world to come back and contribute for my country, make my home the place I want to be.

As a foreigner, my understanding is that the Thai economy has been slowing for years already, and the increased rate of inflation globally doesn't help either. But interesting that none of these interviewees mentioned the political state of Thailand because I have Thai friends who mention that as a big factor for them wanting to leave.
Cause they are scared to mention it. Did you know u can go to jail for a public denunciation of the government in there?

Its fascinating how I have the view of moving to Thailand. It’s been a dream to live in Thailand long term . It seems like such a relaxed place and the people all seem rather nice . I wouldn’t want to live in a bigger city like Bangkok tho. I would prefer Chiang Mai cause it’s real quiet.
As being thai I can say that Thailand is one of the best country for traveller not for living as citizen, If you still don't pay tax here you are just a traveller

I think Thais who want better living environment, higher salaries and lower cost of food items can consider cities like KL (Malaysia) which is basically your neighbor. Singapore is possible but too expensive and too small for long term.
Let’s compare the cost of living in Thailand and other countries. The minimum wage is 328/day (~10,000 a month), for bachelors is 15,000 in general. Here the expanses for the basic living in Bangkok without any society or entertainment things for young Thais. It’s really difficult for fresh grad living there without support from families.
- a room rent (studio size with no pantry 20sqm.) 6,000/month
- 3 meals per day (just a cheap dish, exclude water or anything) 150/day or 4,500month
- transportation (bts/mrt) 100/day or 3,000/month (if you have car, it would be around 4,500 - 8,000/month)
- cost of utilities 1,200/month
- phone bill 500/month
- etc.
I will tell Everybody no one go to Bankok for 328/day.Who lived in Bankok maybe willing to received that money.Rent room not necessary because they all have their house,and even didn't have their house but no one rent house with 6000/month.They maybe average with their friend like a lao Myanmar cambodia worker.
For me, the more I get older, the more I love this country. These people you interviewed might be too young to know the real truth. Living abroad is not as easy and not as good as they think of.

They receive infromatiom, culture, movie from internet but they dont really know about real life of overseas. Many people want to live in EU and US. In my opinion there are illusion.
They talked about their salary not good living. Before you have good life, you must have money first. Most young generation love thailand. But money is more important that’s why they want to leave here. Did you just watch the full video?
One of the reasons is political war between Thais. One side has tried to convince new gens how bad their contry is, the other side has tried hard to defend it and lived the life happily.
I used to think the same way they do now as i never realized how good my country was. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
I'll agree but would add that the political divide in Thailand is not isolated to Thailand. Those that as you say "convince new gens how bad their country is" are puppets of the western elites. 99% of foreigners who come here end up being on that side simply because the English-language press in Thailand is part of the western propaganda machine, and they never bother to even attempt to understand the other side.
Further, as a foreigner who spent about a year as a teacher in a couple Thai-government-run flagship high schools, there's some extremely insidious western-sponsored corruption therein.
It depends on each person's situation. For me, I want to visit other countries if I have time and money as the reward for life after hard working. By the way, I still want to live in Thailand and haven't planed for resettling or working oversea, but I will not refuse if I have a chance to work there since it will be a great experience. However, as I love reading historical textbooks, I learn about many counries and find that there can be an innident which drives people getting out from their countries, so, I prepare myself such as enhancing my language, my working skills in the case that such incident will happen too, so I can live and work oversea.
I’m from Singapore and the same complaint about cost of living prevails here. I too tried to move elsewhere and made it to New Zealand. Unfortunately due to some issues, I had to move back. Once again, the same issues regarding cost of living is also rampant there. Not to mention the countless homeless folks there and the numbers are increasing. Jobs are plenty but mostly in the service industry and the pay isn’t exciting either. There’s a housing crunch despite having lots of land.
The modern world we live in is becoming increasingly unstable. Moving overseas is not the solution it used to be.
New Zealand is a bit too isolated. I suspect the economic opportunities there is very limited. Probably, a good place to chill if making a living is not too much of a concern for you.
